So this is something that was totally sparked by a comment Gamermd83 made during that roundtable that was posted in another thread.

How would we all feel is we were still the actual pathfinders as in the main Ark fleet were still behind us, however the travelling is happening but thats another thread, and we have arrived in Andromeda much more quickly (again ship mechanics blah)

Our job is to find our first base, make initial 'first contact' and diplomatic overtures (or get stuck in to some local fighting)

Much like a version of Voyager but not 'lost' just out in front, arriving first, scouts type... a Vangurad

We might be one ship or a group of scout ships all heading to different parts of the cluster?

Tear it down guys :P

And thank you to Gamermd83 for sparking my imagination in a different direction...

That just contradicts the whole trailer considering we're on the ARK gasping and saying we made it. I like gamermd but even the best of us make silly assumptions. Its a human thing. ;) Sometimes you need to do research amd do a little logical thinking. What did I see in the trailers? what did developers say in a tweet? No offense to anyone and with all due respect but I've heard far greater assumptions get less praise.

Well, if we are going to be using logic, we do not know if we are on the ARK. All we know is that a female in armor (strange way to be dressed if we are sleeping) is sitting up on what we believe is a designated area for those that are being woken up.

We may be on a ship that is being sent before the other (as OP mention)

And what did the dev say in the tweet? Did they confirmed that we are on the ARK?

What you say is ONE of the assumption we have, but for what I am aware of we do not have any confirmation.

So don't make any "silly assumptions" ok?  ;)

I think it makes more sense for the Pathfinder ships to be docked in the "arks" and then embark on their scouting missions once the fleet reaches the galaxy.

Be like that bro. And when we wake up on the the Ark, I'll come fetch ya. P.S. In case you didn't know, that was Ryder, obviously in stasis. :P try that for an assumption.

Good, you can fetch me so will I save everybody. ;)

idk I think i would prefer if the Ark we are on arrives awhile after the others so a bit of history is established in Andromeda, making things more interesting.

It looks like we may have a small amount of time in the MW. I'm hoping.

That's not what I meant, just to clarify. Rather, it was whether the game starts with the arrival in Andromeda or fast forwards a while, so there is an established colonial society.

I see. Probably just us getting to Andromeda.

With the trailer showing Ryder waking up and saying "We made it" as well as exploration and colonization being big themes, I'm guessing it will be when we first arrive. Or at least part of the game like the prologue will, and then maybe do a little time skip for the rest of the game.

Did they confirm that the woman waking up is Ryder the protagonist, as opposed to someone else in the genealogy given their focus on family? That is a parent or uncle?

Yes, they confirmed on Twitter and I believe even interviews that the woman in the trailer is the female version of the protagonist Ryder.

Yep. Im guessing you don't have a Twitter account? Make one if you don't. I did just to stay in the loop with ME stuff. If you do just keep your ears and eyes open. There's new info everywhere. :)

That it's part of the prologue, however, is still actually an assumption - perhaps a very logical and good assumption, but still an assumption.  Maybe, for example, that precise scene is at the end as the ARK fleet moves onto another Andromeda cluster to continue it's search in an ME:A2.

I think it's only logical that any ARK initiative would send out a "test" of some kind before just putting a bunch of people onto these ships all together and sending them off to only one particular destination.  Every space exploration missions humans have done to this point IRL has involved multiple probes and other prototype tests long before the main missions... that those explorations didn't involve the commitment of entire colonies of people.

To me, therefore, it seems possible that we have a single "ARK" perhaps smaller than the rest that could be serve as a "pathfinder" followed by the other ARKs (the ones we see in the clip over earth).  Our FemRyder could be on either wave of the mission.  I think "we made it" would be a logical feeling after being in stasis for a long period of time regardless of whether or not you were in the leading "test" ship or the colony ARKs that followed it.  That is, I think it was probably something that was said with equal frequency among both early explorers and later settlers arriving in North America.

I am a firm believer in the trope Good Is Not Soft (http://tvtropes.org/...n/GoodIsNotSoft). Both in real life and in games. take it as you like. :P

You on the other hand strike me as the typical teenager. Boastful and know it all. ;)

Good that we have got this sorted out.

Ps. you never answered my question. Did the Devs confirm that we are on the ARK?

Sorry for any confusion gamermd prompted me to offer the idea in my OP her contribution was talking about voyager being a potential influence on ME:A so this dumb proposal is all mine

Yeah being a ship on maybe the 'first' Ark works well... and as has also been said in the thread it would make more sense for 'probing' missions to take place even if the whole fleet arives in a quiet corner of Andromeda en masse... I'm just looking at it from a practical point of view and how any such mission would be set up and to not lose the 'pathfinder' theme

That makes no sense on a number of levels. Meta-wise it makes no sense to show the ending of the game in the advertisement for said game. And also that would be a terrible way to end the game. Having them go to sleep and the ship travel again would make more sense then that and then have them wake up.

Ingame-wise the only reason we are in stasis is for the journey from the Milky Way to Andromeda. Once we are in Andromeda, there is no more need for stasis since conventional FTL will get us to where we are in a matter of days.

The journey from the Milky Way to Andtromeda will take centuries so any scout report will be beyond useless by the time the other Arks arrive because a lot can happen in a few hundred years.

Plus there is the timeframe to consider. The arks leave before the end of the Reaper War, and with how long it would take to get to Andromeda the first ship would had to have left before humanity even developed planes, let alone spacecraft. Then there is the fact there is no reason for going to Andromeda before the Reapers arrive because we still have over 99% of the Milky Way to explore.
