Like FO4 for example.

Having around perhaps 100 names(50 male and 50 female ones for example) recorded or so in where at least our companions or some of them (or family it was mentioned) recognize our first name in here.

Edit: Also feel free to suggest which names would you like recorded if it were to happen. Personally I would like John and Jane as tribute to Shepard in here

I think it would be nice to see this as we have a new protagonist be decent if there was a cache of names that could be registered so that there is a sense of individuality to the character, although they will probably just go the same route as DAI and call the character Ryder or the pathfinder... which would really just be cheap on Biowares part

Eh, if they're gonna go down that route, I think I'd rather they just gave us a set first name to go with our set last name. The FO4 system was basically pointless, since the only character who ever actually referred to you by given name was Codsworth, and even he only did it once or twice. (I think; the system just straight-up broke for me, so my main Sole Survivor is just "Ma'am", even though her name's on the list of supported names. I've tried it with other Sole Survivors, though, and even then it's super limited.)

I'm not sure if I'd actually prefer a set first name to the existing 'Shepard/Warden/Hawke/Inquisitor' status-quo, but I know I'm not terribly interested in the idea of a FO4-style system--it'd just be too resource-intensive to do right.

EDIT: Codsworth, not Cosworth.

Spoiler

I mentioned at least our companions or that family our protagonist will have, to at least have them use our first name.

I mean common. It is stupid when your friends, family and lover call you either by last name or your title in here.

FO4 was just to serve as plain example of it.

Not suggestion of path BW should take when it comes to it.

Well, that's part of what I was getting it: to take the concept, as envisaged by Fallout 4 and yourself - a wide selection of voiced first names - and do it right - that is to say, having those characters for whom it would make sense to refer to you by first name do so on a consistent basis - would be extremely resource-intensive when it comes to VO, and I'd personally rather the voice budget were spent elsewhere.

Our last name only pretty much then.

First name would be only mentioned if it is on recorded list of names, if it is then our companions/family should use our first name instead. Simple.

I guess you would just ahve to use one of the names that was there... i mean im probably gonna play as a femryder first so it wont matter, but im hoping my name shows up there even though it probably wont... got the shock of my life playing ME3 though, there was actually a system named after my first name lol slightly different spelling but ill take it :D

Cute idea, but I'd rather dialogue recording was focused on other things...

I can see it working in terms of companions and family using the first name, obviously any admirals or other NPCs would just call you by last name as standard

yeah I know ;) but I just imagined the sequence and it made me laugh, sorry ~

And more seriously, it's a nice idea, so I would be sad not having my name on the list and then feel obliged to pick one I dislike just for using the option (I won't anyway, I will use the name I want, no matter what they decide to do)

I also support KirkyX here, they better put their money into something else.

Suggestion.

Not scenario in where I point my gun at BW and make them waste their resources on my suggestion. This is just as "if" and as such point of it is "if it were to happen" and "if" again, how should be handled and suggestion of possible name list. Nothing else  ;)

I would also rather as well have more dialogue options over this.

But as I said in my previous comment, this is but a mere suggestion and nothing else.

It doesn't really mater our everyone call character Shepard so it's first name, our name will be Ryder I guess or our character parents could be not dicks and give us real name.

I'm down with having a set first name. I mean it's nice to name your character whatever you want, but at most you'll maybe see their name written in a codex or something, and in games like ME and DA it's best to just have a set name that you hear people actually say. You know, instead of them calling you by your last name because they're too embarrassed to admit they forgot your first name. Or that they never even knew it in the first place.

Sheparrrd. Shepard Shepard Shepard. SHEPARD.

I'd rather they spent resources on other things tbh.  I'm totally okay with being 'Shepard' or 'Hawke', or addressed by my last name as the Inquisitor.  I'm less keen on everyone calling me 'Warden', but I think DAI got round that well with the way Josie would speak to you.  I think she called my IQ 'Mistress Cadash'...or was it 'Lady Cadash'

I like the idea of doing a Fallout 4 and having certain companions, maybe love interests only, to have a list of names built in. My own personal names not going to be on the list but it'd be a nice touch to have a choice from a selection of first names.

That said the easiest solution to this problem of not being called by your first name has always been a set first and last name, with the first name being unisex. I wouldn't be opposed to it but quite a lot of folks seem awfully attached to having to choose their own names that no-one ever says.

I understand were they are coming from but not being able to fill in my own placeholder name at the start of the game isn't a deal breaker for me.

Nice in theory but yeah seems rather a resource sink for a small gain.

If our name is Ryder it does sort of fit into a surname that's catchy enough to be a sort of nickname.

That's your own problem for not calling Shepard by his true name - Commander.

Anyway, Fallout 4 way was an easter-egg rather than deliberate game-design. If you want it to actually work - reduce hundred to dozen, limit player to selection between those. Making people google name lists simply doesn't work on wide audience, most people don't catch every bit of game info to be aware of it.

True but tbh when your companions call you Ryder all the time, it would get kind of cheesy after a while in my opinion as i dont the it has the same ring to it as Shepard or Hawke

But then you have the problem of most people being really disappointed because when you could type in your selected name you could now only choose whats there, takes away some of the customization experience then doesnt it?

Well, yeah, personally I wouldn't ask Bioware to do such a thing, but wouldn't mind if they do, because right now first name is nothing but save name.
