The other thing is that I have had people refer to me by my last name, and not all that infrequently. So it doesn't seem weird to me.

I suppose it would be nice but I'd rather not have entire convos hamfisted just to fit in said particular first name but in all honesty couldn't care less one way or the other

Fallout 4 did it.  I don't see why BioWare couldn't do it with Mass Effect.

Have to keep in mind though, it would increase the voice recording time quite a bit just for one NPC to record several different dialogues using several different names.  More recording time equals more costs, would could lead to other things being cut from the game due to alleviate said costs.

Eh, if they're gonna go down that route, I think I'd rather they just gave us a set first name to go with our set last name. The FO4 system was basically pointless, since the only character who ever actually referred to you by given name was Codsworth, and even he only did it once or twice. (I think; the system just straight-up broke for me, so my main Sole Survivor is just "Ma'am", even though her name's on the list of supported names. I've tried it with other Sole Survivors, though, and even then it's super limited.)

I'm not sure if I'd actually prefer a set first name to the existing 'Shepard/Warden/Hawke/Inquisitor' status-quo, but I know I'm not terribly interested in the idea of a FO4-style system--it'd just be too resource-intensive to do right.

I agree. I'd rather just have a full set name. Probably an unpopular opinion, since a lot of people put a lot of importance on a name. I really just see it as a reference point for an individual.

Thinking on it, it would be odd for Ryder's family to never call them by their given name. Especially his/her parents... since they're the ones to give it. I wonder how they'll get around it.

Lol yeah.

I don;t know, it would seriously be hella funny and stupid if our own family in here called us "Ryder".

However I imagine if first name is left out(as per usual) that at least in family case we will be handled in DA2 case of our bro/sis calling as "sister/brother" and parents "son/daughter/darling and etc". Both is fine in my books, as long as "Ryder" seriously isn't name that our family member/s will use as well. Like I said, would be hella dumb if they did.

Ok but what happen if your name isn't on the list and then is not recorded ? you have a blank ? "hey ______ ryder !"

That happened with my Fo4 character, didn't know Rachel wasn't even considered. Actually, I didn't look up the list in advance, if I did it would have saved me from the mild disappoint I experienced aha.

Could always go the Fable route and have selectable nicknames, such as the one your lover calls you (honeybun, sweetcheeks, cabbage etc) and a Codename teammates know you by (Duchess, Shiroi Kabocha, etc).
