Why so little faith in Mass Effect Andromeda?

This is something i've noticed yet I don't necessarily know why.

The Mass Effect trilogy has been one of the more consistent trilogies in terms of quality (outside of ME3s hiccups) around in recent years yet for some reason the fanbase seems to have almost zero hope for Andromeda.

Franchises like Dark Souls, Final Fantasy, Witcher, Deus Ex still manage to conjure up hype yet they are way less consistent than the Mass Effect trilogy, what gives?

Is it modern Bioware or the game series itself? I would understand fears with Modern Bioware but not the game series itself, Mass Effect 1, 2 and 3 are all legitimately fantastic games.

I think most people here, on Reddit and Twitter are quite hyped. Don't see that much negativity. It's also fun to see a lot of first time players of the trilogy because of the hype.

The problem is with your perception. The hype for Andromeda is huge. The EA Play fiasco might have hurt it a little bit but no much, just see the trailer on youtube.

I don't know what other people think. I agree the original trilogy was cool, but that's kind of why I'm skeptical here. It's own creator (Casey Hudson) intended that to be the end... and they decided to milk it anyways.

That doesn't mean it won't be good though. I just don't think it has the same intent or vision behind it. Like they're going through the motions and just keeping the franchise alive, just because. I could still play it, but I can't be hyped about things like this.

I know I speak for more than myself when I say that to even set the story in Andromeda requires a running turd on everything that came before it. The story, the setting, the characters and the lore all look to be making major sacrifices simply to avoid the mess of ME3's ending.

Even if you only paid half attention to the lore, it's obvious there's no way of an Andromeda setting without some major retcons and handwaves. (And that's before even getting into things like wanting an actual resolution to the previous protagonist before starting again with a new one)

Now of course, Bioware could have something up their sleeves to make naysayers like me look like petulant, tantrum throwing morons, but considering everything we've seen and know so far looks like fan-fiction tier dumbassery, it's looking highly unlikely.

I sincerely hope I'm wrong.

Overall I see more hype than anything for ME:A right now.

There's just some people who are still sour from the ME3 endings(or the general direction of BioWare these days) and are extremely vocal about it.

As disappointing as ME3 was, I still enjoy it and the rest of the trilogy.

Very excited for ME:A

I kind of like the endings... or at least, I could have lived with them. My skepticism comes from the fact that it doesn't END. lol. They had to drag it on, and now I question them. The former was a labor of love and this comes off more like a pure "product".

A vocal minority can sometime look like the majority, take for exemple star wars episode 7, I may dislike the movie but I am aware I am in the minority.

Most people liked the film I know that, but there is so many people complaining about it on the internet that they looks more numerous than they really are.

Personally even if I don't like the movie, it does not make me angry.

For mass effect andromeda I see more hype then anything else, but like many things in life, we only remember the criticsm and the negative coments rather than the good one.

I'm hyped for it. I wanna hibernate. Get to 2017 the fast and easy way.

It's maybe not too surprising, and maybe a bit understandable, maybe maybe, why people might be 'wary' of getting too hyped or excited for Andromeda. Past experiences, expectations, all that. But me, I never really had a problem with the past games, and what I mean by that is I never had a problem with ME3's ending.

I thought they were rather poorly done(at least, pre-EC), though that discussion has been done to death a thousand times by now =P

For ME:A I'm looking towards what that game will offer rather than letting the fumbles of the past get in the way. They just haven't given us much of what I was primarily interested in seeing, which was gameplay mechanics.

Ah, fair enough. It seems like i've hit another case of being convinced that the vocal minority spoke for the majority.

My bad, personally, i'm hyped but I would be lying if Biowares recent track record and pandering hasn't got me slightly worried.

I'm excited for this game mostly because it's a Mass Effect game and it is going to pretty much divorce it's self of the original trilogy. All new characters, all new setting, all new story, what's not to be excited about?

I'd have been more excited with just another game. I didn't need "Mass Effect but not Mass Effect". How about just "Not Mass Effect", period. Why the run-around? ;)

Have you read the Mass Effect Foundation series? It's bad, like Oh My God bad.

lol... I liked them.. even if the art in that issue wasn't great.

Mac Walters' didn't do enough for ME2 characters, so I thought he kind of made up a bit with that. At least it told me that he cared.

I think that coz last three games from BioWare were at best of questionable quality, and at worst...

I find the majority of people if they are disappointed it is mainly due to not seeing more of the game, but I have said elsewhere the vocal group on the internet ruined that for all of us.  There are always people that are forecasting doom and gloom because BioWare isn't catering to what they want in the game, but that goes back to Mass Effect 1 and Dragon Age: Origins when they weren't enough like Knights of the Old Republic and Baldur's Gate 2.

Don't let it bother you.  I think Bioware could come up with their absolute greatest game ever in ME:A... and people here on this forum would still find a way to SH** all over it.  Old grudges die hard and there's old grudges here aplenty... over the ME3 endings, over EA taking over Bioware, over people who have left Bioware, over people who replaced people who left Bioware, etc., etc.

Personally, I'm very much looking forward to ME:A every bit as much as I was looking forward to it when I came back here after a loooong hiatus a couple of months ago and found that BSN was still the same ol' BSN.  I just don't see it changing here even if, as I said, ME:A turns out to be Bioware's best game ever.
