Why so little faith in Mass Effect Andromeda?

I personally lost all hope for Bioware after ME 3.  They cut me deep.  Real deep.  I sort of linger on this forum as a ghost haunting the place where his hope died.

ME:A is going to have to be better than sex if they want me back.

I'll explain this as best I can personally.

When I was a freshman in college, I picked up the first Mass Effect game and fell completely in love. I was crazy about the series and thought it was the greatest thing ever. Until the third game, where everything they had previously built was basically demolished, all the characters I loved either disappeared or didn't matter, and the ending was nothing short of horrendous. The gameplay was fine, but I play for story, and the story was very much lacking in the third game.

So now I'm very, very wary of restarting a series which, in my mind, died in 2012 and should not be brought back. To me, it feels like they're trying to use a brand name to make a new franchise sell, and hoping that old fans who's hopes were dashed will come back and blindly hope that this time they'll do us right.

I am very suspicious of this new game because I lost my faith in BioWare's ability to do right by this franchise with the reveal of the third game, and I think that's what a lot of people feel as well. Will this new game truly capture the spirit of Mass Effect 1 and 2, and if it does, are we going to essentially get shafted like we were previously by the third game? That's the big concern that I have, and that I feel a lot of people share these same concerns.

Ultimately, we will see whether we were right to be worried when the next game comes out. Until then, those of us who played the game previously will continue to be wary about this new game before making any decisions about whether or not we'll buy it.

They should just have had the courage to announce a new sf ip based in andromeda, rather than trying to resurrect the corpse.

It's definitely not a day one purchase for me; I may wait until they've stopped milking the dlc train for it.
It won't kill me to wait.

That's the main thing I wonder. It just seems that "Mass Effect" is kinda unnecessary to the whole deal. It could have been a good game concept even without this franchise. But whatever.

Difficult to have faith in it when the people making it and publishing it don't seem to.

I'll say I'm not that hyped because being honest there isn't much to be hyped for. Like, we know it's called Andromeda and that's about it (not quite, but you get my point).

However, I'm not going to throw sh1t at the game either, I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt.

I fear it will be a big, dumb action schlock like ME3 was (to me). The part on Mars where you have to chase the lady sexbot after talking to Funky Eye-man then Dudebro smashes the shuttle into the other shuttle saying "I got this" and explosions happen is when I lost all interest in the game.

I could get through ME2 despite the fact that the terrorists resurrected someone from the dead (somehow) because the bugs were kidnapping the people to make the daddy terminator because at least I was interested and felt part of the universe instead of someone watching something with the quality (or lack thereof) of Bay's Transformers films.

(Oh dear, a small rant, but at least it was nowhere near novel length, or anything http://www.shamusyou...edtale/?p=27792

But then again, I think Andromeda sounds a lot better (despite hearing very little) than ME3 and I can tell that it will probably be pretty good, if not great (maybe, if we're lucky).

I'm not at all negative towards it, nor am I hyped for it. Just straight up indifferent almost. They haven't released anything worth noting.

I don't know anything about it except for the fact that it's a Mass Effect game that has nothing to do with the Mass Effect games.

Pretty much. I'm reserving my judgment until I see the game on or shortly after release.

Cause people don't appreciate ME3 cause of the endings. Screw em. Leave em back in 2012. Its the future now baby!

Maybe if I got to see some actual MEA gameplay, other than 2 minute developer videos, I would start to feel some sort of hype.

Well I said I liked the endings. At least my ending.

This game still makes me scratch my head.

I would think that people who liked Mass Effect would be puzzled like me. While the people who wanted Andromeda are the ones who wanted to get away from it all or get some kind of "do over".

I know I speak for more than myself when I say that to even set the story in Andromeda requires a running turd on everything that came before it. The story, the setting, the characters and the lore all look to be making major sacrifices simply to avoid the mess of ME3's ending.

Even if you only paid half attention to the lore, it's obvious there's no way of an Andromeda setting without some major retcons and handwaves. (And that's before even getting into things like wanting an actual resolution to the previous protagonist before starting again with a new one)

Now of course, Bioware could have something up their sleeves to make naysayers like me look like petulant, tantrum throwing morons, but considering everything we've seen and know so far looks like fan-fiction tier dumbassery, it's looking highly unlikely.

I sincerely hope I'm wrong.

How can it look fan fictiony when we have seen virtually nothing on the game to this point as has been pointed out by several people causing its own share of disgruntlement?

Honetly? Its the horrible marketing for me. ME is one of the biggest game names out there, and they are treating it like some 17th project on bottom of everyone's list. It has no marketing, no showcases, no presentation. They tell almost nothing about the game except that they are going to delay it for a few more months and in a video or two they show us that people are actually using computers and programmes to make a game. Who knew?!

The second part comes from the feeling that the game is forced. Shepard plot is not resolved, instead they bail out on the entire galaxy, cr*pping on one of the best aspects of ME for me, which is constistency of lore. ME lore is believable, reading it and hearing about it you can say "Yeah thats possible, or I can see how that might happen".

They had no courage to chose a cannon. So now, not only do they not give a conclussion to Shepard's story, but we might lose almost every alien species we came to know and love. Instead of them, here's Keth, who will either be a machine race or have the trope of noble savage like native american's in the westerns, whose story will likely follow James's Cameron's Avatar.

Hype is for suckers.

Hype is the thing that makes you pre-order a game despite knowing next to nothing about it or its quality.

Hype makes you want to buy overpriced DLC's and plastic thingamabobs for exorbitant prices.

Hype causes fans to develop unrealistic expectations, which are ultimately dashed when the game itself comes out.

Hype is good for the corporations, not you.

True on all accounts except for those very rare moments when the game actually matches or even exceeds the hype. Oh that is glorious!

I have reasonable expectations for Andromeda regardless of the hype or the whining of the naysayers. I hope that it turns out good but I'm making no assumptions until I have seen some actual gameplay or even better, I get to play it myself.

1) DA2 comes out. Rushed, writing is clumsy in a lot of areas, heavy-handed in others. Gameplay dumbed down because they want a larger audience.

2) ME3 comes out. Writing is clumsy in a lot of areas, endings are "okay" at best. The response on the Bioware/EA end is shaky.

3) DAI comes out. Writing is clumsy in a lot of areas, gameplay is dumbed down because they want a larger audience, old-gen console versions are an outright insult, Bioware flat-out ignores and refuses to respond to complaints by old-gen buyers.

While I like the first two for what they are - flawed as hell but fun in some areas - what happened with DAI is inexcusable. So while I admit I love Mass Effect, I don't have faith to hope by this point.
