Worse actually.

It looks like they're preparing to completely annihilate everything that existed before MEA.

and they may do the same with DA.

But you can still talk about Star Wars though.....coz we could always use another one of those forums.

I am 100% in agreement on the bolded part.

As for SWtOR, I don't think that game is going to last very long either.

Well, before today's announcement about closing the forums, I had quite a bit of faith in ME:A...now, not so much.  I'm a little concerned that they have opted to close the forum down only a weak after the book by Jemisin is due to be released and then pulling them down completely just prior to N7 day... when they are supposed to release more information about ME:A.  It makes me feel like I'm just now waiting for the next shoe to fall.

Other than the digital catalog people found has there been any indication the book is actually being released in August? Not having a book listed on Amazon when it's supposedly less than a month away from release would be very unusual.

I have a funny feeling that the current ME devs or powers-that-be may have decided to do one thing most would not like; trashing everything in the trilogy and recreating their own lore. If so, asaru have hair and breed hybrids and whatever else they care to rewrite. Definitely the end of the line.

I re-downloaded the game and took one look at the servers. Uninstalled. No population info, no server type, just names. At least in WoW I know what type of realm i'm getting into. Then I went to the forums and saw all the complaints about low pop. and game dying. So yeah, I agree.

They did it to be massive (high pop) and to be Pay-to-play, the free-to-play accounts are to fill slots...

Bio conveniently mentioned that ME:A news would come in the fall, then turn around and shut down the Forums.

What are they afraid of?

And having us around will complicate things with that...we are a loose end they plan to dispose of. We are no longer their target audience.

I guess it's because we've heard so precious little about it (apart from leaks and rumours) that it's beginning to seem like there's some problems in the studio. Not particularly with the game but with execs from the studio moving about and new people being shifted around making progress slow. They've barely shown any gameplay (literally only like seconds of it at E3 2016) and that makes me a bit worried that it's really messy.

Of course, maybe I am wrong and the game is coming together very well and they are just holding back on the hype as ME3 was overhyped to the extreme.

That was always obvious. I just didn't expect to be kicked out the door and told to nick off. This place was actually beginning to see a lot of a newcomers. So I figured it'd be a passing of the guard.

Instead we get Air locked. While Javik waves goodbye.

I got a lot of words in my auto correct I don't need now btw.

Like Javik.

This is something i've noticed yet I don't necessarily know why.

The Mass Effect trilogy has been one of the more consistent trilogies in terms of quality (outside of ME3s hiccups) around in recent years yet for some reason the fanbase seems to have almost zero hope for Andromeda.

Franchises like Dark Souls, Final Fantasy, Witcher, Deus Ex still manage to conjure up hype yet they are way less consistent than the Mass Effect trilogy, what gives?

Is it modern Bioware or the game series itself? I would understand fears with Modern Bioware but not the game series itself, Mass Effect 1, 2 and 3 are all legitimately fantastic games.

Three main factors:

1. ME 3's ending.

2. Inquisition being lukewarm on a variety of fronts, especially compared to its peers.

3. Moving to a new Galaxy rather than dealing with the problem that was ME3's ending, i.e. feels like a massive cop out.

There are other reasons as well among certain groups (namely the PC community feeling Bioware don't take us seriously after their lies pre-release for inquisition) but those are the main three and have all lead to a general scepticism and lack of faith in Bioware as a developer. If they release another lukewarm, or even a poor game I think they're done for as a developer.

The irony about that statement is that SWTOR is the only active project that Bioware has going on currently that is  making money. But, one man's trash is another man's goldmine I suppose.I look at it like I did  when SWG was around and that it's an ok game only because it's the only active Star Wars type IP.   But, having said that the current dark vs light event that is going on at SWTOR at the moment is nothing more than the gathering of beta metric data that will be very beneficial to their new star wars IP that is in development. So it will interesting to see how the new IP will affect SWTOR once it gets released. And back to the OP, I am glad that they realized that it would be rather foolish to end this great series considering the popularity of it and especially since there are many untold stories left to be told. So, personally I  have no doubt the Andromeda will be a very good game and will complement the Mass Effect series rather nicely.  I still wont pre-order though since I quit doing that for games a long, long time ago :D

I'm basically just hoping that ME:A makes it to release now.

                                                                                    <<<<<<<<<<(0)>>>>>>>>>>

Interesting in that this news makes me blah about ME:A.

They've been trying shake off the fanbase for a long time. I've got that sinking feeling when it comes to this game.

Bioware are going out of their way to smash the remnants of the old trilogy. Including the fanbase.

I hate to say it but the over top chanting about how far gone the company and its attitudes were may have been right.

                                                                                                  <<<<<<<<<<(0)>>>>>>>>>>

You may have a point regarding the tabula raza of the old ME forums.

But also the DA ones? That one points to:

1. DA:I is not a success.

2. DA:I MP certainly is not (haven't seen gushing enthusiasm for it).
3. DA IP is finished because the MP portion is a failure.

Basically then, if Bio is still around, the new forums will contain ME:A and their new IP.

I admit, the news has definitely sucked away a lot of my enthusiasm.  I'd still like to see it make it to release though... a lot of people at Bioware have put a lot of work into it and it would be devastating to them to just see it all wind up on the corporate cutting room floor.

Unfortunately, TIM was wrong... ideas can be all too easy to kill.

EA's growth is dependent on the ability of their published games to make money off "extra content" = multiplayer.

Bio's Mass Effect series 1-3 + Dragon Age certainly don't... or not enough.

Nuking Dragon Age and the Mass Effect trilogy makes sense if  the forums are replaced with

(1) their new IP,

(2) ME:A and

(3) Possibly a new Dragon Age with better online MP money maker.... though I'm not holding my breath

So, I expect Bio to create forums for ME:A and their new secret IP and new SW, should they still be around.

A ray of sunshine is that Bio did not announce account cancellations as part of their forum wipe.

I suppose if there's one silver lining in this entire thing (well, there are many, but let's pretend there's just the one), it's that I don't have to watch you pretend to know what the hell you're talking about anymore.

Some people are without hype because they are still butthurt over 5 minutes from an otherwise good game from 4 years ago

Some people are without hype because they don't want the return of the Mako

some people are without hype because they genuinely did not like the direction of the series as far back as post ME1

some people are without hype because they didn't like the past titles from Bioware

My point is that it varies from person to person.

Obviously, it is a vocal minority. I personally can't wait.
