So I finally pick up DA:I and found myself quickly re-configuring the keyboard.  I barely get through the beginning and just had to swap SPACE & CTRL and P to C.

Space has always been pause.  I don't know why they would make it jump instead of space.  I'm perfectly fine with CTRL being jump, but pause should be consistent with DA II and DA: O.  Then, of course, I kept hitting C for the character screen.  Why it was now P is beyond my comprehension, but at least they allowed for re-configuring.

I really don't want this to seem like me just griping about the changes, because that's not really the case at all.  I'm glad to see that I'm 24 hours into it and I'm still just barely beginning, where DA II, I was already half way done at this point.  I can get through DA II in 2 days whereas DA: I seems to be MUCH MUCH more indepth.  I like that aspect as well as the much more vast levels / areas to explore.  That's just pure awesomeness!

I do have some questions though that are driving me nuts in comparison to the previous games.  I'm finding that I cannot use some of the same tactics that I used in the previous games.  Mostly because HOLD POSITION is not actually holding position.  I can't figure out what it is doing, but if I hold position, the non-controlled player keeps moving.  It's probably the #1 thing driving me nuts right now.

It's quite often in the previous games that I would have everyone hold position, I'll manually maneuver them to where I want each person, then control one person as bait luring an enemy target towards my ambush.  The only problem with that is that they keep following me even though I have clicked "HOLD POSITION"  It's even more frustrating when you have a 3 ranged fighters and 1 Warrior fighter party, but this particular battle, you just want your Warrior to chill out and only attack anything that comes near the party.  Maybe this can be fixed in behavior or tactics, but in none of the previous games have I ever had to touch the tactics screen because I always manually controlled everyone during battle and hold position was just that, hold your position unless you're told otherwise.  The ranged fighters can handle it, just get involved if enemy gets too close.  It's driving me nuts.

I could get use to the new battle controls otherwise, but this one often leaves someone dead because my warrior is off somewhere else and I can't shake this guy loose.  I don't want my warrior to run off in this 3 ranged (2 mages and Varric) and 1 warrior combination.  Stay where I put you.  Can this be done or is it just done differently in DA:I and I haven't been able to figure it out yet?

Otherwise, I'm really digging the new vast level exploration you have to do it DA:I in comparison to the previous games.

Any other combat advice would be welcomed.

Oh....  Also, I keep seeing "So and so Approves", but I have yet to be able to find where there is a Friend/Rival or Friend/Enemy level with the other characters.  Am I just not looking in the right place or are those approvals pointless in DA:I?  Where can you view them if not on the Character upgrade or Character inventory screens?

The party control in this game is pretty pathetic, by far the worst aspect of the game. You can't fix it in tactics. I don't know if you've looked at the tactics screen yet but it's awful, there is **** all there. I would recommend going into it just to set your ranged characters to not automatically use any short range skills though.

If your not already in combat the quick commands like hold position don't seem to work. If you want them hold potion while you send in the tank use the tactical cam  and send in your tank in that way (I would also tell mages to defend the tank so they don't cast barrier on your back liners who aren't even getting attacked, since they automatically prioritize people without guard). Then you can exit it once the battle is started and play the rest of the battle without it if you prefer, They still drop out of it on occasion but that seems to work ok for me. They will also hold position if you are controlling a character that is stealthed so you can initiate combat that way (but be careful, if you get to far away they will teleport to you).

As for approval, it dose make a difference but you can't view the actual value anywhere .You can  tell roughly where they are at by how friendly their greeting is when when you talk to them at haven/skyhold.
