y'know, on the one hand we have Solas saying spirits are nice and become demons against their will, and in my previous answer i forgot about harrowings and demons wanted to possess mages.
 
Sooooo just maybe we're trying to come up with a theory when actually we have conflicting evidence that precludes this. Not the first time Bioware

The conflicts are part of it, though. Spirits and demons are complicated, and might be better treated in a case by case basis rather than a broad outlook -- that we already have one is probably why we don't fully understand it.

There is also that since the veil was created as perhaps an artificial barrier rather than a natural one it may have also changed the nature of spirits and demons. If spirits were ever as "common as grass" then maybe they weren't as vulnerable as they are now because they had more frequent exposure to mortals. What if by being entirely separated from mortals for as long as they have this caused them to lose their "immunity"?

Yeah, there is also the issue of how many fade entities will even care to "invade" if there is no veil. Its too unpredictable at this point. I'd wager there would be infighting between them.
