Hi... I only bought the Dragon Age games like not so long ago (days) and im in Lothering... how do I get on with the story??? Ive killed some bandits and some darkspawn and ive been to a camp and dreamed of the Archdemon again but is there something I need to do to unlock places to travel to??? Everywhere is locked so im kinda stuck and I have no idea how to carry on with the story from where I am... i dont have much information about what to do other than some side quests in Lothering I think???

I'd recommend finishing everything in Lothering (there will be a second set of chantry board quests after the bandits and you get a pretty good sword if you do everything) as there is quite lot of experience, money and items can be earned here.

 

After you are done in Lothering and had the dream about the archdemon, talk to the merchants in the camp and after that you should be free to travel anywhere from your world map

The world map opens up after the Lothering introductory conversation with Alistair (Well there it is. Lothering. Pretty as a painting...). Apart from dealing with the bandits on entering the map, none of the quests in Lothering are required, though, as Taki17 suggests, they are well worth completing for a number of reasons (as is entering both of the buildings and speaking with the NPCs inside).

 

But if you've already had the Archdemon dream, then you've accessed the party camp... the world map should certainly be open, at least with travel points to Redcliffe, Denerim, Lake Calenhad, the Brecilian forest, the Frostbacks and back to Flemeth's Hut... are the travel points not appearing or not responsive?

Theyre locked like I havent unlocked them... ill check again later but I was at the camp and tried to travel to anywhere and it wouldnt let me do anything other than going to Lothering again... the little squares are there but not working apparently haha

I talked to the merchants yesterday also and even after that still no luck... it was one of the first things I did after I woke up

Ill try again when I get home from work and go back to Lothering and do some quests as you guys suggested but the map was completely locked yesterday it was the same as being with Flemeth I could only travel to Lothering!

 

Every time I type Lothering my fingers type Loitering instead and I have to correct myself every single time

There is a map screen that will say you cannot travel at this time. This usually happens when you try to travel from a map that is quest specific. Lothering might be one of those maps. Save Bodahn and Sandal from the darkspawn and exit the north passage. That should be all you need to advance the game. You can then travel from Camp to any of the locations. Lothering will not become inaccessible until you complete one of the main quests.

This time it worked!!! Although ive hit another bump... im defending a town from zombies... all the zombies are dead and no more are coming and the militia are relaxing apart from the ones at the top... ive tried running around and there are literally no zombies left not even in the fog but nothing is happening??? Id imagine the mission should be ending at this point... the town is safe???

Talk to everyone in the town that you can and especially those at the top area.  Your next step should be getting into redcliffe castle if I think you are where you are.

When I tried to talk to people before they just kinda said generic things like "thats not gonna be the last of them" and that was it... I cant go into any of the houses or go elsewhere like when it activates your map there are invisible barriers...

Your game might have glitched out. Try reloading a save from before the battle, preferably in which it is still daytime and you haven't told the mayor you are ready to begin the battle.

Sometimes one of the walking corpses gets hung up somewhere. If you've done an exhaustive search of the town, then all you can do is reload.

Haha ok ill do that next time I play... between the map being all greyed out and locked the first time now this... the game is weird haha thanks for your help

Is your game patched to the latest version (1.05, if I'm not mistaken)?

 

Also, I'd recommend you take a look around on the DA nexus for some additional bugfixes, especially this one.

I updated it when I first started playing yes so I installed what the game told me to

 

Im playing on the playstation... so im guessing the nexus is the same for Dragon Age as it is for Skyrim and I wont be able to download any of them???

Well, that explains a lot, as the console versions of the game are not as refined as the PC version.

 

I've just checked the DA wiki, and your problem with the quest not advancing is exactly what is listed as a major bug with this quest. http://dragonage.wik..._Nightfall#Bugs

Haha ok the playstation always seems to get a bad deal with games

 

Ooohhhh... right ok haha there were more enemies at the windmill after the second part so I guess that caused it???

... is Sten dead??? By the time I realized he could be a companion I was in the fade and uh now I cant get to Lothering I kinda left him in a cage...

You might use console commands and add him to the party, but I don't know how much would that screw up the game variables.

Don't worry about it, on my first playthrough my Warden left him to die for his crimes.  It meant that the next run I had a whole new companion to experience which was cool.

I left him to die because I didnt realize he was a companion and I forgot about him
