Questions should be my middle name, but anyway my question is would a squad with Cole as an Archer, my character as a tempest dual wield, Solas, and Iron Bull mix well?

Late game it should be fine if you spec iron bull to be a bit tankier, however mod game the party would suffer too much from the lack of a tank. I would swap out cole for cassandra until you get tier 3 schematics and materials.

It all comes down to how you spec Ironbull.  If you ignore Reaver and make him SnS he can be really tanky and do just fine.

He's got more tank skills than anything else. His reaver is set so that he dosent use it as often.

As often, or at all? Each has costs associated with them: active slot, stamina, reaver self-imposed damage. I could almost convince myself that Devour deserves an active slot position and to be enabled (NOT Preferred), but the 65 Stamina cost is steep and I wouldn't want the AI to try to spam that ability if IB gets a little boo-boo.

Just keep an eye on IB when you are in a battle. If you see Devour getting used more than any other ability, or even enough to make IB stamina locked, take it out. This is assuming you've already taken Dragon Rage and Ring of Pain out.

Maybe I spoke too soon but now IB won't use any of his guard skills so he's basically getting hurt and using up my potions. So I'm back to square one I'm keeping my DW Tempest I would like to build around that so please help me!

If you're going to use a DW Tempest, then I'd go with Dorian spec'ed for ice magic for crowd control as well as decent DPS, Cassandra spec'ed for tanking, albeit with gear that still makes her capable of dealing a fair amount of damage with wrath/purge, or even just purge, and then you can do pretty much whatever you want with the last slot. I'd suggest spec'ing IB for two-handed and using a more DPS oriented build, but then again I'm kind of biased when it comes to having Dorian and IB in the field together for the purposes of making them hook up. huehue

Ok I like that one. But I have a suggestion how about Cassaundra, Dorian, and Cole(Archer)?

Cole would work. He'll definitely add nicely to your overall damage output, and his party banter is entertaining enough to justify the slot. :P

Great! I was a little sceptical about having 4 humans but I believe it will work out just fine!

Do you believe the AI will allow Cassandra/Blackwall to use guard skills when Ironbull won't?

There is absolutely no reason you can't have Ironbull tank.

Skills:

The SnS tree passives and shield bash.  Vanguard warcry (with armor upgrade) and a few passives.   Battlemaster tree and get both shouts.  Be sure to get the Horn of Valor upgrade for guard on entire party.  If it were me, I'd get Warcry upgraded, Shield Bash, and then Horn of Valor (with upgrade).  In that order.

This isn't perfect, but it will work.

Tactics

Set to Preferred: War Cry, Horn of Valor, and Combat Roll

Set them to follow themselves.

Alternative skills:

SnS tree has a lot of nice passives you could go for.  But the priority is Horn of Valor+, Warcry+, and Payback Strike+.  War Horn isn't really necessary, but I found it invaluable once I was in Jaws of Hakkon DLC.  The damage upgrade to Combat Roll isn't really valuable to AI-controlled characters because rarely will they use it offensively.  Really you just want them to have something they can use to get out of harms way.  And do so frequently.

Note:  I've made the assumption you have Trespasser with toggle upgrades.  If you don't, then you will want Challenge and not Payback Strike.  You also won't really want Horn of Valor without the Trespasser toggle upgrade.  Get War Horn instead for a little bit of crowd control.  I don't remember the name of the skill that was where Livid used to be, but it was very valuable for low levels too.
