DLC featuring different genres

Being an FPS/RPG game DLC could feature the same levels maps with procedural generation to create a smaller extended map to utilise different genres in, such as Stealth or Platformer. A full squad could play a team based infiltration or parkour through the level to get to extraction. Single player driven short stories could feature hacker antics in a sci fi setting or have the child characters from the Ark trying to get to other colonists.

Thoughts?

It would be interesting to see those features if they were implemented correctly... but its a 3rd person shooter dude lol

This.

Already said that but I don't want ME to become a FPS ever (motion sickness + I want to see my character !)

I'd rather see variation in the main game. Why just DLC?

I always get motion sickness with FPS when i first play a new one or havent played one for a while but i get used to it after a while... also think they should apply what bethesda have done and have both

Could have it transition from 3rd to 1st? Oh and in DLC because the main game can already feature a lot but these new genres would only experiments to see if they went with the gameplay without risking the franchise.

Yeah like Bethesda have done with skyrim and so on... i think its an interesting concept but dont know if it would work exclusively with Andromeda

Both, why not, but only if they are perfectly well done and adapted to the game. I'm always really scared the 1st person will take precedence over 3rd person... (for example I have troubles with how they handled the 3rd person on Fallout4)

You have motion sickness too ??? you deserve a hug <3

Because of this stupid thing I'm literally unable to play tone of games. I can't do anything against it, believe me, I tried everything... :(

I was hoping you meant genres of fiction - nebulous as they tend to be - rather than genres of game. So, like, one DLC's a noir murder mystery, while another has heavy Wild West/frontier town vibes, and so on...

That's often already done with level designs and soundtrack. Although not as radically as switching to a Western. Like Jack's loyalty had an element of creepiness/horror to it, Leviathan was a bit investigative and horror, etc..

But I always liked when games switched to new gameplay. Mass Effect already does it with the vehicles or eluding the Collectors playing as Joker, but they could do more.

I thought you meant genre genres. Like I'd dig a noir murder mystery DLC. I don't even know if something like a parkour DLC would work with Frostbite as is, at least not with extensive adjustments.

Well, that's what Mirror's Edge basically is. Not sure how many changes they made to each implementation of Frostbite though.

Oh, I know--Lair of the Shadow Broker had some - very loose - noir overtones, while Overlord had some thriller/horror elements, and so on. I just like the idea of making it a bit more overt, and then playing with the attendant genre tropes.

When it comes to new gameplay systems, I'll agree that I appreciate a good amount of variety, but it's all down how well-implemented/developed each new idea is. The Hammerhead in ME2 was fun, for example, but it felt a tad under-cooked. And honestly, I'd prefer it if more time were spent on telling a cool new story than putting together some new gameplay novelty.

The engine can do Mirror's Edge. This is the story of their senior lighting artist to light the city of glass using the Frostbite engine. They added some stuff (he was involved in the design of the lighting subsystem). In this case it was about the very specific looks of the game. It looks like its an organic process. Meaning that there is a team behind it to make special requirements work. Notice the audience. Mostly EA employees. They can use some of that in their own games.

Not a bad idea - also:

Stop using that word (platformer!) - it's a JUMP-AND-RUN :) (at least that's what they called it in the 90's and early 2000's)

BUT:

No CHILDREN (damned, who would put children on such a ship? - Select the damned best people you can get (young, intelligent, healthy, attractive (as an indicator of good genes!), genetically sound (check for hereditary/genetical illnesses and defects!), well trained etc.) and who'd be able to contribute the most to such an expedition (children don't contribute anything, they only take up space and consume ressources...also: Children happen naturally - later, when there's at least basic infrastructure in place!) and take along fertilized (and genetically screened - defects, illnesses, but also potential future health and intelligence etc. (if it were me? I'd make a lot of "Mirandas" and send them...just with both genders and different looks, so that it's not like sending the Star Wars Clone-Army!)...sending anybody who you can grab is a bad idea if the survival of the species of the whole galaxy is in jeopardy! This would not give the colony the best possible start!) embryos that can later be incubated (they've got the technology - it was how GRUNT was made, not to mention Miranda!) to increase your population very very fast!)

You can't just take a 3rd person game and make it first person. A lot of things need to be changed, both mechanically and design wise.

Likewise, platforming in games which don't have controls built for platforming is almost always a nightmare.

This is how I feel as well.  I really don't understand the desire to warp a game someone likes to be another one for I could see it being a complete disaster and not working in any way you would expect since BioWare designers aren't familiar with those mechanics and level designs and it wasn't the focus during development.

They tried doing to a stealth mission with Arrival, and that was not popular, even though it was fun.

Also, what the OP described was kind of close to WarFrame, apart from the kids bit, which I don't get.  What would the kids be doing to get new colonists?  Giving out leaflets?

What about a cross-over between Mass Effect and Dragon Age?

WAIT!!! HEAR ME OUT.

Ryder and Co. are heading back to the Tempest after a hard mission; Ryder cleans up and goes to their quarters to sleep.

And then Ryder wakes up to a darkspawn attack.

Cora, a mage, launches a fireball towards them, screaming at you to wake up.
Drack, a two-handed warrior, knocks over a half-dozen hurlocks with his claymore, quipping how you're getting slow.

You grab your equipment:
Soldier: crossbow with fire-bolts/mace
Sentinel: longsword & enchanted kite-shield/wand
Vanguard: flaming longsword & buckler/wand
Engineer: traps/dagger
Adept: magic staff/dagger
Infiltrator: dual-daggers/longbow

You find yourself in the middle of an invasion, and have to fight your way out.

You meet up with your squadmates "Dragon Age"ified, and discover that it was an obsession with cheese that led to the invasion occurring.

Adventure happens, you kill a dragon, everyone can tell that something's up, and just when you think you've got it all figured out, Ryder wakes up.

"I just had the strangest dream..."
