Just something that just shot through my brain,

Was just reading a post on names and it suddenly hit me, with the advanced tech now in use for motion capture i can see there being much better cinematics where theres not only better movement but more interpretation for dialogue and banter to be implemented into the game,

thoughts?

Interesting expression to use there Sherm Sherm.

Anyway I'm on record as saying I don't even care if it's a game at all, so... yes, basically.

I will be so disappointed if I won't be seeing the DAI looting animation that was first used in KotOR again. So nostalgic.

Seriously, the least they could do is different male and female animations during cutscenes. We've had enough FemShep spreading her legs wide in a dress while sitting.

What might be better is maybe to build some minimalistic sets and have the actors themselves perform the cutscenes. It would lead to much more natural-feeling scenes, as nobody stands in one place/types on computer/leans on a handrail for the entire time of a 3 minute conversation.

Thats what happens in a lot of games in the mo-cap studios now anyway

I'm aware, but still don't really understand why Call of Duty can utilize mocap animations for background characters, yet Dragon Age still reuses assests from 10+ years old games.

True. It's bull****. They even used ME mocaps for DA and vice versa. For fight scenes and melee animations I hope they got actual trained martial artist and fighters and maybe former military.

In the trailer there was someone doing mo cap on a rig for that jetpack jump attack lol

BW is using an old animation library of acting poses that begins to show its age. It would be nice if there would be new ones. It's almost as bad now as the reused locations in DA2, which caused a constant state of déjà vu. :P

Also the transition of the in-game situation to a cutscene is weird. When the character walks to a table, which is supposed to trigger the cutscene, then often that character is thrown back a couple of meters and then walks to that same table. I was already there! Ghehe. There must be a way to make that transition feel more natural.

Edit: And also, do not make characters wear different outfits for the scene than they had a second ago. They cannot change that fast. Same goes for weapons. If my character doesn't have a pistol then don't make that character use one. Even if the character has a pistol, the animators will often use a completely different one for that cutscene. Where do these magical guns come from? Where do they go afterwards?

That's true. See? They're stepping it up a notch. Hopefully they keep it that way.

Yeah thats why i thought we would maybe get some proper banter and all that sort of thing in scenes instead of flat expressions and non moving characters

Inquisition did a nice job in my opinion at making the cut scenes more unique to their situation and content.
BioWare has been doing more and more motion capturing as well.

Could even feature a high drama cinematic featuring choices using the interrupts, a climatic battle could be use the effect of the music in the scene and slow-mo/adrenaline rush effect to choose actions that effect the battle but likewise have consequences much like the ME2 cinematics, costing loyalty or npcs.

Unique, maybe, but I found DAI cutscenes among the worst in terms of transitioning in as well as framing.  Some of the cutscene framing made me think: Why bother?

More linear, less characters, no choosing dialogue

I like cinematic cutscenes ... but there is a limit; the Metal Gear series tends to take one look at that limit and go "Naaaah - screw it; sit back for 20 minutes and enjoy the movie..."

Thats the point of the games that you get to choose how to respond to a certain situation

Cutscenes are great but procedural animations for minor conversations must be good too.

I forgot about that. Dammit, I'm excited again.

As for more cinematic cutscenes.....YESH (MAJOR Uncharted fan here.) Uncharted 4 had lots of them, and NO loading screens!

I think they're trying to move more in this direction, because my husband's cousin is a QA tester, and he said he played about 30 minutes of Andromeda last year, and the Mako dropped out of the ship seamlessly onto an alien planet that you could keep driving on....no loading screen.

OP:  What you're really saying, I think, is "better" cinematic cutscenes, not "more" of them.  Better to me would entail 1) better integration regarding transitioning from where the player triggers the cutscene and the cutscene actually begins; and 2) more attention to individual PC details in the cutscene such as type of armor being worn, type of weapons being actually carried. with the parts where the player and 3) more natural movements and situations (no more stiff as a board sex scenes, please).  For cutscenes where the player chooses dialogue, the characters teleporting around as different players select different lines is a problem.  I'm not as upset when the characters involved int he dialogues stay very still as when they jumped up and down like jackrabbits in order to reposition themselves to be in the same place for the beginning of every line of a lengthy conversation... or, even worse, teleport around when not engaged in an conversation (like Aria teleports around while giving her speech during the Omega DLC).
