In general, I've usually gone with the "straight arrow, best solution" for each of the quests in past run-throughs. This time, as a Dalish elf, I tried to reason as a "not overly bitter" Dalish elf would.  Seeing the Dalish as strongly favoring tradition, I had my Dalish Warden support Harrowmont....the very first time I opted for him over progressive, but hopelessly slimy Behlen.

Anyhow, in the past, when the Warden names Behlen king, Harrowmont graciously concedes...and is promptly executed.  (This even carries over to his relatives in DA2.)  But when I chose Harrowmont this time, Behlen does not go quietly....there is a riot in the chamber!  And what truly shocked me was that those staves that the dwarves carry in the assembly were being used as weapons!  Not as blunt instruments, but in a normal "magical" sort of way!  What in the world...?  So much for elves can't do magic!  They were actually zapping each other!  How exactly did this slip by?

So much for DWARVES can't do magic.  Harrowmont also gives you a magic staff for crowning him (for a mage GW anyway)

Should have been caught in QA/testing so you'll have to ask Bioware along with other inconsistencies.

Good question.  I don't remember that happening in my canon runthrough, and I know I supported Harrowmont then.

I remember it specifically because Harrowmont said it had been his....

My Dalish rogue got the staff as well.  It's kind of weird....I looked up the crowning of Harrowmont on youtube and everyone seemed to be using maces and other blunt  instruments, but no staves.  Perhaps this is an odd PC-only thing?

They're not mage staffs, they're ancient dwarven beating sticks.   ;)

The Dwarves are said to be unable to use magic, but they have the best enchanted armor and weapons to sell, so why not use some kind of magic weaponry?

I thought they couldn't actually fire off their magical bolt thingies.
