As of right now, I'm downloading DA:I and anxiously waiting to lose a few days of my life. In doing so, I remembered there was a thing called Dragon Age Keep. Why not utilize it meanwhile since I played the previous two games on my X360, right? However, what I accidentally stumbled upon was something I wouldn't of have even imagined is possible. It turns out my Human Arcane Warrior from the Circle of Mages (Daylen AMELL), badass all around must be somehow related in blood with my Champion Kirkwall, Garrett ''1 Shot Everything Rogue'' Hawke. In the description provided by Keep, it says his father was apostate mage Malcolm Hawke, where he gets hid family name from sure, but his mother was goddamn Leandra AMELL! So what does this mean? My warden is what, long lost uncle to the Champion? Brother couldn't be the case because there has never been any disclosures of this kind before. Screw all the ''your choices matter and intertwine'' gimmicks, THIS must the coolest thing about the whole expierience for me, especially if taking into consideration how hard my Garrett fought for Mage rights all along without me even noticing such a conspiracy! :D

Ugh, lore wise this would add a whole new layer of importance of Mage-ness to the world of Thedas. So much so, it feels Force-like, if you get what I'm saying!

So please tell me this is true in any shape or form, because that would change the whole outlook of first [of many] DA:I playthroughs.

Sidenote: So even if this fantasy of mine proves to be true, and I'm not overhyping pointlessly, how could this even be true when Daylen was about the same age as Garrett and both games start at a comparable point in time? Leandra had a WAAAAY younger bro?

Dying to know, please don't dissappoint me! :)

Second cousins, specifically. Leandra's cousin Revka Amell was Warden Amell's mother.

(Interestingly, the Codex and The World of Thedas establish that Warden Amell has more than one sibling, although they may never have actually met them.)

Yep, they're second cousins. Leandra's first cousin Revka Amell is the mother to an Amell Warden; all four of her kids were mages and were taken to Circles across Thedas. If your Warden fathered Morrigan's baby, that's another family connection.

With the Tevinter cultural stuff, they've established that magic primarily runs in bloodlines, so it makes sense. It's not intended to be a coincidence, I believe.

Oh my gosh, he DID! :D So as I'm guessing the little godchild Amell has a noteworthy part in the story? That's so COOL, cant wait to play starting today night -

So then again Champion Hawke in a way is a quite distant uncle to the Amell Jr.? Cant wait to interact with Hawke in game. I suppose there's little to none mention of this connection though....

BTW, which is the closest thing in regards to character backtories, I can take to continue Amell's importance of Thedas? If I remember correctly, Human Origins were Trevelyen or something but still...

What I want to know is if Dorian thinks Hawke and Warden Amell are in the okay to bang zone yet. Or get the Inquisitor in on an Amell on Trevelyan fourgy? Y/N?

nah the best bloodline ever is clearly the Plantagents, with the Kommenoi and the Borjigin as runners up.  Honorable mentions go to the Habsburgs and the Japanese Imperial line for longevity.

Yeah they have four siblings (all mages). I'm not sure how unusual that is. It seems very rare that 5/5 children would all be mages.

Ugh, I hate the whole "My Amell and Hawke are SPECIAL because they're from the same family. There must be something super special awesome in their oh-so-amazing bloodline!" Feh!

I suppose not too related, since it pertains to the Hawkes' but:

Magic has always run strongly within the Hawke bloodline. The tales passed down from one generation to the next tell of an ancestor named Parthalan, a mage who long ago helped to unite Ferelden under the rule of King Calenhad. Parthalan eventually vanished into legend, fleeing the persecution of the Chantry, but his legacy remains in the hands of his family - along with his hope that one day, mages would achieve the freedom that King Calenhad intended to bring to all men.

^I suppose that's why Hawke carries the Staff of Parlathan in the Destiny trailer and in DAI.

The advertising had it wrong since Parthalan's staff never provides this information when you receive it; it was Aldenon the Wise who helped Calenhad create Ferelden and he wanted to establish a kingdom of free mages and non-mages; his efforts were thwarted when Calenhad betrayed him by allying with the Chantry and their templars.

As Aldenon told Calenhad: "A civilization cannot be civil if it condones the slavery of another. And that is what this Circle is! But by accident of birth, those mages would be free to live, love, and die as they choose. The Circles will break - if it be one year, a decade, a century, or beyond. Tyrants always fall, and the downtrodden always strive for freedom!"

And Hawke's family doesn't know the Warden, only that they have the same surname.

Well, it figures since all the siblings were mages AKA Circle regulars, besides If I recall, Leandra was never hiding the fact she wasnt close with her family, because running of with a MAGE. (Which, when you realise of having such ROOTS in family, starts not making that much sense)

Not my Inquisitor...

At any rate, Dorian says,

Did you know we're actually related, Inquisitor?

Related?

Oh, not first cousins or anything like that. Can you imagine? You're a Trevelyan, however, and somewhere in the dank nethers of my family tree, there was also a Trevelyan. Perhaps he was even the one who ventured to Ostwick to establish the branch? We are talking long ago, of course.

You know that off the top of your head?

Not the top. Maybe the lower middle or thereabouts. Bloodlines are serious business in Tevinter. You're taught lessons and tested... by strict nannies. I heard your family mentioned, and I had to go through all the old mnemonics. But yes -- there it is. I knew there was a reason we looked so much alike.

I'd rather we weren't related. That might make flirting awkward.

Depends on which branch of the family you come from. Regardless, I think we're still good to go -- by at least three ages.

Dang, I just realized there is that "Inquisitor" spoiler title if you take this while in Haven, which I usually do. At any rate, I don't imagine it would matter all that much if they're all men (no pregnancy risk), especially since none of them were raised together, so there isn't that same mentality of being "family."

Nah, that was the point actually. Leandra was bringing more magic into the family by shacking up with Malcolm, which was considered shameful.

I tried the human mage origin because I thought it was fun that they and Hawke were second cousins. Now it's my canon (for plenty of other reasons of course).
