I thought Citadel was just the right send off note for Mass effect trilogy.

I found the mission in it weak but that was more than made up for with all the additional light but fun content for cast.

That said i really don't want it repeated unless we get to anotrher end of trilogy moment where such a thing is called for.

I believe it was designed to be campy and silly, intentionally, as a contrast to a.) the game's dark, tragic overtones and b.) as a rebuttal to the wave of Internet Nerdrage that swept over BioWare when some people disliked the ending to Mass Effect 3.  I believe it was meant to be a retrospective and humorous look at the characters, because some people were displeased at [what some players felt was] a lack of closure to the trilogy.

I didn't care for it, personally, the first time I've played it.  I thought it was overdone, SyFy-level cheese and corniness.

However, I've since come to enjoy it quite a bit, and I appreciate what they were going for with its theme.

But it's not going to be for everyone.

The Citadel DLC is more of a caper than a serious story - more (Connery or Brosnan) James Bond instead of (Nolan's or Burton's) Batman. After the heavy-handed drama of the main campaign, I appreciated the change of pace.

It's only real flaw was it couldn't be used to actually overwrite the endings.

Cause I'll take the crew boarding the Normandy after a party over the forced grimdork outcome we were saddled with any time

The ending was never going to be overwritten with something else or rewritten.

You can't take a product back and ask for a different one after fully consuming it anyways.

If you got a scratched disc or something that prevented you from installing the whole game when you first got it, then you could take it back.

You can't take it back and ask for something different because you were disappointed with the ending to the game after already playing it.

Come on, you two. You've already got plenty of threads to discuss the ending.

I'd like ME3 a lot less without this DLC.. so I disagree with the OP.

I don't really care for the main quest though. Or at least, I think it could have been better. They include all of the squad elsewhere, but they still thought I wanted ME3's shitty selection for the main quest.

He's asking if they could swap the current ending for Citadel, and I'm telling him why he can't. For the most part.

To stay on topic though, I do agree that Citadel was a disappointment. It felt out of place with the rest of the game. It had a lot of feel good storytelling, without actual good storytelling. As if they purposely wrote it, wanting you to leave satisfied. Which after all the people who demanded a better ending for almost a year, they got their wish.

I remember there was a thread about what the next dlc would be about before Citadel was announced. I mentioned that I would like a crucible dlc to explain the plans origins and the ones who made them. Even today I would've taken a dlc like that instead of having the Citadel dlc.

I've always had fun playing it and think it is the celebration of Mass Effect saga.

I thought some of the missions at the end, and the party banter, were fine. It was marketing as a send off, a valentine for longtime series fans. Hackneyed as it was, I liked the clone, if only because the silliness of the earlier parts made me accepting.

What really bothered me was how much Wrex fanservice it was during the first part. We had James in the beginning talking about how wonderful it was to have the krogan, on the Archives mission we had Tali teasing that "Wrex can take a break" or something. It felt like choice reinforcement, like sparing Wrex (and subsequently, curing the genophage) was the "right" thing to do.

I killed Wrex, the story is better without him. And now I have to pay extra to be told that's the wrong choice. The Mordin content we got didn't measure up. I hate when devs make choices like that.

Perhaps the story you play is better w/o Wrex, but I have never killed him in any of my full campaigns; only seen the lesser options with Wreave in games using Genesis DLC. And Wrex remains my fave NPC in the series.

And the nod to Mordin remains excellent. The idea that some fans are brought to tears by simply listening to an audio file seems to indicate that this is spot on despite the opinions of others.

Some bits of it were too politically correct for my taste. Most jokes weren't funny, the idea for the antagonist (a clone) just couldn't be taken seriously and the squadmates' comments plus the dancing at the party gave me a headache. It wasn't all bad, but that was my impression, anyway.

Wrex and the tango with Garrus were perfect, though. Also, the shooting scene right after Wrex's entrance. I also liked seeing the secret files in the Citadel Archives. In all honesty, if it weren't for Wrex, Zaeed, Garrus and James, I wouldn't bother playing the DLC in future gameplays.

Tango ? I feel I missed so much in this DLC. Lol. At what point do you get this?

Saw this for the first time on a stream recently. A femShep romance with Garrus reveals more than a simple meet and drink at the bar; possibly one of the best companion Cut-scene moments in the entire DLC, if not the series.

Way better than the Ash meetup.

Seriously, could they not think of any form of recreation besides drinking heavily?

And her entire "romance" content in the scene was Shepard making a crude pass at her.

It was the part of the DLC I liked least

The worst part for me is Zaeed, for obvious reasons. But both Ash and Kaiden are PTSD vics by this point in the story; do not care to see either of them in this DLC.

I'm not saying the Mordin content is bad at all. I'm saying that the effort of keeping him alive did not feel reciprocated. And that I had to listen for a long time about a godawful NPC, even though, for some odd reason, you seemed to like him.

My opinion likely won't count for a lot since all I did was Youtube all the cutscenes, but I find all the story content to be annoyingly cheesy bad and inconsistent with the rest of ME3.  It's like if there ever was a down time between ME2 and ME3 where characters can goof off a bit without the "Hey, Reapers are here and harvesting humans while Shepard is playing in the casino!" cloud overshadowing everything, this DLC would be fine.  But, it's right smack dab in the middle of the actual Reaper invasion. So, there. :(

I prefer all the singleplayer DLCs to be serious and plot related in that it expounds on core plot points but not to the point of sacrificing the main narrative.

Citadel was the ending we needed.  But not the ending we deserved.

Speak for yourself. I'd rather completely remove the entire DLC and add the resources to Priority: Earth and have everyone fight alongside everyone else with extra side missions starring our old squaddies. Like hitting Reaper concentration camps with Grunt and Aralakh company, or assaulting platoons of Reapers with Zaeed and Jack and her biotic students. Clear the way for a final assault.

Having Wrex back (even if just the watered down version) was awesome.

I would have ultimately liked that, but I'll take what I can get. :\

Too bad it isn't easily moddable. Some of those audio files of Grunt and Jack and others could be put to better use.

It's fun, but too silly to be taken seriously as part of the "real" story, IMO. The characters all act a bit like parodies of themselves, especially Javik joining in on the wisecracking during battle, Samantha preventing the Normandy being stolen with her toothbrush, and plenty of other "wouldn't it be funny if..." moments. I don't really mind it given that it was the last new content for the Shepard trilogy and Bioware probably knew that some people would be playing it out of context (i.e. loading an old save, rather than waiting for it to unlock during a regular playthrough), but it's not something they should try to replicate on a regular basis.

I think you're right..

Although this is more suitable for the party, I think. Otherwise, I cringe a little when they get all Joss Whedon-like.

I would say the same for LotSB.. the banter just isn't my thing.
