Does Andromeda have to achieve greatness, or is 'pretty good' good enough?

Yeah. that kind of surprises me. Because we agree often on many things. But to each their own.

There's several things I liked about DAI, but the one that stands out the most is that Leliana, Josephine and Cullen, who are not companions, got a fair amount of content. That is something I like to see in Andromeda. The crewmembers are just as important as the squadmates. I like to see them have as much content.

What I had in mind was awards like Golden Joystick. They almost get something like 10 million votes. It's the largest afaik. It's a good indicator of what's popular. Sometimes I value what reviews or publications say (or simply just the word of mouth of a fellow individual), but it's much more limited.

If a game has been released already, I usually ask the employees at the gamestore about it. They go online to show some gameplay to see. They even let me play the game, if there's a console available to use, before I decide if I want to buy the game. If a game catches my eye that hasn't been released yet, I ask them what its about, who's making it and when it will be released. If it seems ok, I would preorder the game or I just wait until I decide to purchase it at a later date

Well, I definitely like the inner circle of DAI. Especially Leli and Cass. Then Sera and Dorian.

Actually, I like most companions. That's the sad thing.. they still do this well. Just the game itself isn't for me.

I like the idea of people other than the followers getting meaningful content, but I wasn't sold on the execution of it in DAI. Cullen and Josephine were bland as plain bread, and Leliana had lost everything that made her character fun in DAO to the point that I dreaded talking to her and getting one more display of Sister Nightingale the Sadistic Hardass.

I guess that part made sense to me, because I romanced her in DAO, but my Warden sacrificed himself. That or if you killed her at the Sacred Ashes temple. I don't know what to say otherwise.

I understand that DAO and ME2 are beloved games. I love DAO(I can't even remember how many times I've played it at this point). But GOAT? Come on. Maybe your personal favorite, but not GOAT.

KOTOR is the GOAT.  No doubt.  Decided I needed to add this:   B)   :D

It was jarring until I finished the quest for Leliana and had the letter from the HoF... you can see how much her duties as the Left Hand had weighed on her and why she is as she is.  It is even more understandable when you read the books and see how close she was to the troubles in Orlais.  Poor bard just couldn't catch a break in the past few years it seems.

And I hope there are more instances of non combat companion content like ME3 and Inquisition have furthered.  Especially if they find a way to incorporate banter at the base of operations for them.  They came close with Inquisition with some minor character moments, but they were always rather short and rarely with any named NPC.

It's not. Numerous professional game reviewers freely admit that they don't finish many or any of the games they review before submitting their reviews, and people like Adam Sessler have openly condemned the vast majority of the gaming press for doing just that. One of the threads here on the BSN about the discrepancy between the professional review scores and user review scores for DAI featured a tweet or blog post(I can't remember which) from a professional reviewer admitting that he only played the game for about 10 hours before giving it a perfect 10/10 score.

Cite your fraking sources. You make ludicrous claims on this thread and refuse to cite a single source. I see demands for claims on the success of DA:I financially I provide the proof with cited sources and you lot go suspiciously silent.  I love the I have proof this happen i just can't remember who or be able to cite the source. If you can't cite your source it is bullsh!t.

Which shows this isn't about FACTS it is about trying to position your SUBJECTIVE opinion as objective fact. Guess what no subjective point of view is objective. You don't like DA:I boo hoo for you. Get over it. Gamers are a divergent group NO game can be all things to all people and gamers want things out of games that are mutually exclusive so it is impossible to be like by every fan. What? You think your SUBJECTIVE view is more important in teh grand scheme of things? PFFFT get over yourself. Until you start actually citing sources you are just stomping your feet like a toddler mad that the universe doesn't share your subjective opinion. boo hoo for you.

I don't understand the award fixation and what others may or may not think about the games I happen to like is their problem.

The award "fixation" isn't a fixation it is an objective measure of how well received a game is. No single award shows a consensus of opinion but dozens of awards start to show a pattern and over a hundred awards is statistically significant. Winning awards is not a measure of quality or objective 'greatness' what it is however is a measure of how liked a game is, people don't go around voting for games they don't like. So when people claim DA:I was badly received is not well liked you can use awards to show that statistically that position has no basis in fact.

No award or series of awards can valid or invalidate one's subjective opinion about a game, that isn't the point of pointing out the awards won. It is to point out to the DA:I haters that their opinion is not universal but that it can't from a statistics stand point be a majority view.  And again this is only required because the DA:I haters go on and on how DA:I is not a well liked game simply because they don't like it and try to enshrine their subjective opinion as objective fact.

I don't think MEA needs to be the best ever to save BioWare's reputation, but it'd be curious to spend five years on the expansion of a trilogy only for it to be "pretty good." BioWare's still my favorite game company, so I expect greatness with each of their games, even if they occasionally fall short of that.
