The names: Shadow Broker and Illusive Man sound like meanicing names to me.
Just think about it, everyone will be calling by that name.To be honest I can't stand that name. Was midly irritated by "Shepard" but "Ryder' I truly detest.
Aw come on, Harbinger and Sovereign were pretty good.
I agree, I really adore "Sovereign" and "Harbinger".
I honestly never had any troubles with the names on the ME trilogy. Also Ryder is just fine to me.
And the four C's: Citadel, Conduit, Catalysts, Crucible. Well chosen names.
Although I may not like some of the stories behind them. ![]()
It never was supposed to be serious to begin with.
This reminds me of the skimpy armor thread, but in a different way. Theres's like a whole slew of people who somehow convinced themselves they're playing a simulation.
Mass Effect is a comic bookish action romp, most of the time. It's a little silly. Have fun with it.
The Illusive Man however was, and will always be, bloody silly. What is this? Marvel comic book writing 101?
Yes. Have you not noticed all the people with superhero/villain powers (biotics, mindcontrol, batman levels of martial arts expertise and inhumanly enhanced body parts), the colorful costumes, the classical "ancient evil suddenly threatens everyone and we need to asseble the Avengers.... uh.... I mean, a good team to stop them" storyline and the fact that Garrus is literally a vigilante complete with superhero name "Archangel".
They sound pretty good to me. Or should everyone just have regular surname?
Not before I get someone called the Velvet Fist.

Sounds kinky.

Yup, though I err...actually think Archangel is a really cool name. ![]()
Shadow Broker and Illusive Man seem to be names given by the people.
As I recall, Illusive Man is the codename for TIM in the Alliance files, and it kind of stuck.
Sovereign and Harbinger... Are Reapers. Millions of years old synthetic hybrids that have nothing better to do between cycles than think and hybernate in deep space.
They are also the remnant (heh) of their entire races, and in Harbinger's case it's the Leviathans. Their names being weird and somewhat prophetic at times make sense. Sovereign may have elected to be named that on the whim of one of the leading caste (of the source race) thoughts, because as we know, "they are each a nation." Harbinger... brings news of individual races' destiny, so to speak. Harbinger's arrival meant Harvest for who knows how many cycles.
This does actually make sense. There are names in history that exist because of the people calling them such.
For example, the Sopwith Scout is better known as Sopwith Pup because of one such thing. Jack the Ripper's name may never have been Jack, and I don't want to find out why exactly they call him (presumably?) Ripper, but it stuck and the murderer is known as Jack the Ripper. William the Conqueror is the more common name of William of Normandy.
Your argument seems to be losing, to be honest.

Isn't Sovereign's name actually Nazara? Sovereign being given to him by Saren: http://masseffect.wi.../wiki/Sovereign
Harbinger also sounds like something Shepard would call him, based on the "We are the harbinger of your perfection" that Harbinger is so fond of saying.
Either way, I rather like Mass Effect names, but I also enjoy the name in comics, so that might be why. I only dislike Shepard's name because English is not my native tongue and now it's just stuck in my brain and I can't spell "shepherd" properly unless I look it up first ![]()
