This does actually make sense. There are names in history that exist because of the people calling them such.
For example, the Sopwith Scout is better known as Sopwith Pup because of one such thing. Jack the Ripper's name may never have been Jack, and I don't want to find out why exactly they call him (presumably?) Ripper, but it stuck and the murderer is known as Jack the Ripper. William the Conqueror is the more common name of William of Normandy.
The name came from a letter claiming to be the killer, although its believed that it was a hoax and Journalists wrote it. ![]()
