Does anybody else think the alpha UI looks sexy?

I love this UI design, i hope they keep it! the elements flow nice, it almost looks like your looking through a visor. The compass bar at the top could use some tweaking to look more familiar with the transparent electric blue bottom bars and the curved shield/health bar could be lowered or slightly compacted if it felt a little intrusive.

Do you like it? what UI elements from the past games did you like?.

I suppose so.. Although I wouldn't complain about any of their ME interfaces. They're all a little different, but never annoyed me.

It's alright, it looks similar to the ME3 UI.

Firstly: JUMP-PACK (that thing does NOT sustain flight for longer periods of time (like say Tony Stark's Iron Man Armor) so it's not a jet-pack!)

Secondly:

It's very straight and slick - but nothing special and not that different from the ME2/3 UI (I hope it responds well to keyboard commands - I will never play anything with a controller if I can help it (can't hit a barn with a controller, while I am not a that bad of a mouse-jockey!) - and I hope we can re-map buttons in this game (and aren't forced to have a "one-button-does-all" like ME3 has!))

I don't think there will be "one-button-does-all" in Andromeda, going by Inquisition they advanced button mapping a ways for controller. In saying that i never played Mass Effect with controller so i'm not sure it would translate well to mouse and keyboard.

I have a strong preference for a mini-map rather than a compass.

I hope a mini-map will be available.

I'd rather not have a map at all, but I won't complain too much.

I would prefer a auto hide mini-map on the omni tool that could be bought up with a hot key/button.

I just can't figure out a reason why I ever needed a map, other than ME1... but then, those worlds weren't that fun anyways. The other two were more narrative driven, corridor games..with levels that were easy to navigate.

And if they improve the world exploration in MEA, it wouldn't need a map either. A good exploration game is more discovery and stumbling on stuff. If it's the type of open world like DAI, then I don't need to be wasting time with it either.

Not keen on the central circle, it reminds me of a car dashboard and takes up a bit of space.  But, as ever, give it a couple of hours and I'll get used to it and it'll become invisible.

I just hope the icons aren't tiny, we don't all play on big monitors and sometimes I get frustrated at how little they can be. :(

That'd work.

IIRC, ME2 & ME3 would display a mini-map when I brought up the power wheel.

The mini-maps also showed enemy locations with red dots, and made it easy to discern direction with a big old 'N' in the proper position. Some of the games I've played with only a compass for navigation - the compass was so cluttered with various icons, it was difficult to find the 'N' buried there somewhere.

I find it much easier to navigate via map than some cluttered compass. A compass will show you only direction; a map also shows distance.

Maps aren't always about marking locations beforehand. Sometimes they help chart progress through an area, help you find your way back to things you've already found, and are pretty much necessary for fast travel.

Honeslty I like more ME3 UI. Not super fan of huge curved bars for health and shields. Still, in therms of interface that is a 2014 build apparently, so it could've change since then.

Well, I don't want to take the feature away from you... I'll say that. I just don't get much use from it. Maybe I get the most use of it from space shooters...or dogfighting. But there aren't many made these days unfortunately.

I'd like to combine the directional compass (scanner) with a ME1 style mini-map - for example; BioWare could wrap the rotational compass around a (round-shaped) mini-map in the bottom left hand corner. The co-ordinates and local POIs could rotate in proportion to the position and direction of the player & mako on the map.

That way you can glance at the compass to get a rough idea of the direction and distance of a point of interest and examine your mini map for a more detailed view of the terrain, likely environment and combat hazards and how best to approach/get there.

I'm the other way around. I will NEVER play game with a keyboard and a mouse because it's a cumbersome, annoying, and absolutely no fun for me. Now give me a a excellent gamepad (like the Xbox 360, Xbox One, and the PS4 controllers) and I can make the Mako dance, and a keyboard and mouse and it's no fun and absolute hell for me.

It kind of depends for me. I prefer a gamepad for 3rd person (and originally played this on Xbox). I can go either way with first person.

That's especially the case though when the 3rd person game has more acrobatic movements (jumping/flipping/or tomb raider-ish stuff)... but ME doesn't really do that. So I suppose I could get used to a mouse if I tried. But I don't need a try :P

It didn't exactly strike me when I first watched that video, but looking at it now in a screenshot...

Yeah, it looks awesome. It's neat, it's new, all the "pieces" go together really well. I like it. Despite that, I'm not going to be surprised if it's different by launch. Considering this is alpha footage and things always change.
