Armor (& gear) customization for squadmates in ME1 was I feature I always enjoyed because not only did it add some much needed visual variety to replays and even impacted gameplay but it also provided a lovely sense of visible progression throughout the game as you watched your rag-tag band of rookies starting with their basic gear and load-outs slowly progressively trade up to bigger and better things. It made the economy & inventory system and earning credits infinitely more satisfying.
I liked how if you felt a squadmate was too flimsy or did not contribute enough in combat you had some recourse to address the situation. Or maybe you lavished all your credits on your favorite squadmates (your best guy or gal) as an imagined reward. I liked that it wasn't all about you and there was a trade off between spending credits on yourself or improving or enhancing your squadmates effectiveness instead.
I'd love for this to return in Andromeda. Perhaps having a modular armor customization for squadmates would be an idea BioWare could explore in future titles but until then I'd be better happy with a re-imagining of the ME1 squadmate inventory system with some modern touches. If BioWare could adapt the ME3MP customization menu into this system where you could customize the color, material and the patterns, lights of squadmate armors that would be awesome.
Perhaps in addition to armors and outfits maybe squadmates could equip accessories like visors, helmets, head-gear or extra grenade pouches, etc. Thoughts?
