I'm reading a codex book and found official info of talks I've already read. Snow is to the south of Thedas, not to north.

I praise the people that created Dragon Age and made it in a south hemisphere continent. I'm really tired on all games and movies to have snow to the north. These northerns (USA and europe) think the world is on their lands only, and forget Earth is round.

It's odd to know that climate gets colder as we go south, but movies and games always say otherwise.

Now, in Dragon Age, the right thing happens. We go south and it gets colder. I hope DA2 and DAI let us venture south of Ostagar and see some snow!

Not really. There is snow. In like 3 areas. But nowhere beyond Ostagar. And there is only snow because it is in the mountains.

That's really sad. I see there's ocean southeast of the Brecilian Forest, map doesn't show what's south of Korcari Wilds, I wonder if it's a frozen ocean or an extension of the continent. It'd be great to venture Theda's south pole.

I haven't read anything suggesting an equator in The Coastlands or even Free Marches, that leads me to believe that Ferelden's continent is completely on Theda's south hemisphere and the lands to the north are bigger than what we know in DAO.

And, from the little I've seen from DAI, its world was compared to Skyrim. I haven't played Skyrim, but I believe it's bigger than Oblivion's Cyrodiil. If DAI = Skyrim > Cyrodiil >>> Ferelden, then maybe Thedas = Nirn > Tamriel?

There is the Sundered sea to the south/southwest of the wildes, and on its coast the southernmost settlement, Mont-de-glace. But the area is volcanic, so probably looks something like the volcanic regions of Iceland.

The equator is probably farther up north, past Seheron and Par Vollen. These islands supposed to be tropical, so they are probably somewhat close to the equator.

DAI is nothing like Skyrim. It's much worse.

From the Korcari Wilds codex:

"The Chasind wilder folk have made their home there since mankind first came to these lands, and the wildlands spread as far into the south as anyone has ventured. Beyond the mists are vast tracts of snow, white-capped mountains, and entire fields of ice. It is a land too cold for mankind to survive, yet the Chasind eke out an existence even there, and they tell of horrors beyond the Wilds that the lowland folk could not begin to comprehend."

It's some kind of frozen tundra, an extension of the continent like you say, it is at the same latitude as the Frozen Seas to the south-east so it does make sense for it to be a cold, frozen region. To the south-west there is the Sundered Sea which is marked on the map as a frozen sea with a frozen coastline. It is at the same latitude as well.

OMFG astonishing! It's even bigger than I thought! So Thedas is the continent, not the world?? And Orlais and Antiva a way farther than I expected!!

Indeed Seheron and Par Vollen and The Donarks seem to be tropical, so latitude-wide this map should be around 30%-40% of the world? I wonder what's far north! And longitude-wide, based on latitude, this shouldn't be bigger than 20% of the world... OMG! Now I wanna play Inquisition! :D

What do you mean with worse?

I mean the game is nowhere as good in terms of being (semi)-openworld. Whereas in Skyrim you have TONS of things to do in the wilds from exploring, through hunting, trading, mining to taking out enemies different ways. I know they are not entirely the same genre of RPG, but there is no good reason for DAI to have vast, open areas with ridiculosly small amount of content. Pretty vistas and nice scenery only get you so far before you are going to get bored and tired of walking for minutes towards your next objective, and always coming upon respawning enemies who are more of a chore than a challenge when you have overleveled them by far.

The game would've worked just as well if it had the same size for its areas as DAI has. Like the korcari wilds or the brecilian forests were probably the two biggest areas, and they were open enough to provide a nice sense of exploration, but you never felt like as if it were a chore to do because there was always something interesting to find (and not just elfroot, iron or a lvl 4 bandit every three steps)

Yes, Thedas is just a continent. There should be another landmass further north, the qunari came from somewhere north of Par Vollen, they are not native to Seheron and Par Vollen. And there are hints in the codex of another continent across the Amaranthine ocean to the east, plus another one to the west across an unknown/unnamed ocean. The world of Dragon Age is huge, the games and books cover just a fraction of it.

lol sorry I didn't understand what game you were talking about, are you saying DAI > Skyrim or Skyrim > DAI?

I meant that I saw a review saying that DAI land area is equivalent to Skyrim. I haven't played any of them yet :/

Comparing DAO with Oblivion, DAO's lore is more organized and better told, Oblivion's Open World is great and its mods are awesome, but Oblivion is extremelly unstable to the point I got frustrated of wasting days trying to fix some CTD. DAO is rock solid, It has crashed only twice on me on all this time I'm playing it, its richer in content also, DAO seems a complete game, while Oblivion is very empty and relies on mods to make it better.

Thhis remembers me of TES, how they created Tamriel and explored each of its kingdoms over the games. I hope DA4 gets even better.
