I would find melee more fun if it led to less death. I don't know what BioWare was thinking when they decided to make you choose melee vs fitness. Maybe they went the D&D route of separating CON and STR? Who knows.

Oops, sorry about that.
I entirely agree with your advocacy of fun.
Also, agree with your rejection of kroguard/reegar pairing. Also, strongly agree with your Hicks avatar.
Lots of agreement here. Too bad you play xbox and not PC. We could've been friends.

I keep three ranks in poison strike. I use her as melee, but I find PS' utility to be worth the three ranks. I personally prefer to run with something like the Talon, since the power cooldowns stay high, and it is still a very effective shotgun (more or less.)
Less of the hostilities please people?
I think we can assume that anyone who opens with "You're all doing it wrong" is accepting responsibility for subsequent criticism they receive. Besides, most of the points being made are quite valid.

The title is provocative, I'll accept responsibility for that. It's meant as humor, but there's some underlying frustration in it, and people are picking up on that. Let me explain:
I'm frustrated because I've followed the me3 multiplayer community on bsn, reddit, youtube, etc for years. It's a great community with some truly committed fans sharing some really great ideas. I love it.
When a new character like the fury comes out, the community tinkers, discusses, and works out how the characters abilities fit together to make unique play. Later, when the valkyrie comes out, even though the characters seem similar, the community works out how to make this class feel new and different. That's some great problem solving and collaboration. It also rejuvenates the community by sparking discussion, demonstrates the games depth, and helps newcomers learn faster.
When the cabal comes out, she's got a completely unique set of abilities. But years later, there's no consensus on how to put it all together. There's some good ideas about how to use melee or poison strike, but most builds emphasis nightshade blades and a weapons platform, ignoring all that. Where's the creativity? Where's the depth? What happened to finding out what makes a class different?
I looked for help playing the cabal, and I got 'guides' telling me to take grenade capacity, with puns about "caballer" or "this chick is caballin". (these people owe the world an apology)
I got fed up and tried to work it out myself. The more I learned, the harder it was to watch newcomers in my pugs struggle with poison strike. Misinformation about the cabal was rampant. I felt like people were missing out, and I felt like the community was letting me and those newcomers down.
That's why I'm saying "you're all doing it wrong". I'm mostly joking, a little frustrated by what I see as complacency, and I want the subject to get attention. I love this community and I was us all to do better.
If you're still offended by the title, I'll repeat: there's no 'wrong' or 'invalid' way to play.
You're free to do and say what you like about the cabal. I'm free to roll my eyes and think that's boring. There's nothing wrong with disagreeing.

Creativity is a fun part of this game, and possibly the best part. There's a reason so many people have played this game for so long - it seems like there is always something new you could try with like 50-60 different unique classes and tons of different weapons.
But when people say that you should emphasize Nightshade Blades and good weapons, it's because that is the highest damage output setup for the class. Every class has setups that may be a lot more fun than the optimal damage setup. Use whatever setup you want - I don't understand the reason for frustration though. Nobody said you have to use any particular setup. Play how you want to play.

Well, there's your problem right there.
This is BSN Multiplayer. Now, we may not get apoplectic over the paucity of transgender robot romances in the single player game, and we may not spend a lot of time demanding that boobs be indiscernible on female characters in order topple the dominant patriarchy, but that doesnt mean we're completely stable.
This is the section of BSN where people don't care about the scoreboard but become incensed at attempts to outscore them. Friendships can be shattered here over whether the Wraith or the Claymore is the better shotgun. Geektosterone saturates these forums, and anyone saying, "You're doing it wrong," better have a geek-resistant umbrella open and properly positioned to catch the torrent.
Get thee to the Thunderdome, babby.

Absolutely loved it. Shame it's come to an end. It's not for everyone though.
On topic, all the critical posts were warranted, and I don't think I've seen anything overly harsh. You can't come to a new forum preaching about a build most posters already know, that also happens to be subpar offhost.

Lol, I'm not mad or anything.
Maybe 'dissatisfied' is a better word than frustrated. Whatever you want to call it, it's a discontent with the public perception of the cabal and a desire to improve that. It's what drove me to learn video editing and join the community, so it's probably a good thing.

First, the claymore is obviously superior. Second, my skin's probably thick enough. If it's not, then I go back to being a wallflower. I've only invested 24 hours here, I wouldn't be out much.
Let's talk less about the topic title and how new I am. Let's talk more about the cabal. Only a few posts have actually been about the ideas in the video.
For example, I think that the developers usually have a plan(s) in place for how a class will work. Some classes, like with the fury or destroyer are evidence of this. Other classes, like the quarksman or the turian sabateur seem like failed experiments to me. Do you agree? Which category would the cabal fit into?
The short poison strike with double dash can theoretically detonate 4 powers in as many seconds. Could the cabal be a better detonator than the human vanguard?
Has anyone done any experimentation or looked under the hood at the movement? I mentioned that the blink seems to be buggier on uneven surfaces. Any ideas why? Banshees also have trouble with uneven ground. Is there a connection?
Several people have said this is an old idea, but only one person posted a link, and that was great. Know of any others? Something using short double dash heavily with a melee build emphasizing wall-hackery and rapid hit & run movement? I don't really care if I'm first or not. I'm curious about other people's processes and ideas and I haven't been able to find a lot of good info.

I think the issue is that you're misreading public perception of the Cabal. Everyone knows there are a lot of different ways to play her, some of which are more fun or more effective than others. Megabeast did a thread on how great the Double Dash Cabal was like 2 years ago. I agree - it's a good thing for this game to inspire people to make videos about what they think are good and/or fun ways to play. But if you're going to post your videos here, you should probably pay attention to 3 things:
1. This is an old game, and pretty much everything has been tried and discussed before. Unless you have uncovered some new information, you're going to get people pointing that out.
2. You're not going to get much support by going into a community that collectively knows just about everything there is to know about this game and telling them they are doing it all wrong.
3. Everyone has their opinions about the "best" way to play each class, but most people generally agree about what the most "effective" ways are to play most classes (i.e., the most destruction in the shortest amount of time). Don't confuse the two.

Hmmm. This has more content, but there's several inaccuracies that are clearly refuted in my video. For example, the author claims poison strike doesn't stagger (???!). When they say a short poison strike barely gets through a brute, they miss the point - poison strike can hit targets behind you, so a short poison strike with double dash can hit a brute twice. Once when he's in front, and again when you barely pass through.
The author acknowledges that poison strike is a strong escape and that the heavy melee is a great way to close the gap, but doesn't put melee and poison strike together which I mention as a great combo for learning the class and getting hit and run.
The author complains that heavy melee won't get martial artist going because it's not enough to one-shot a lot of enemies. IRRC, the max theoretical heavy melee damage is north of 4k dmg. You only need about 3.5k dmg to one-shot most gold enemies. I'm guessing the author didn't know or forgot that the heavy melee does about a third of it's dmg as a dot. Waiting a couple seconds instead of "finish the enemy with light melee" as the author proposes would probably get the martial artist they're so concerned about.
The fact that the author seems misinformed about the cabal is the main reason I made the video.
I think the issue is that you're misreading public perception of the Cabal. Everyone knows there are a lot of different ways to play her, some of which are more fun or more effective than others. This attitude that there's nothing new to learn is the other reason I made the video.
Just because a lot of people have looked at something, doesn't mean someone else doesn't have something new to say. In response to your list:
1 - if you really believe that, what are you doing here?
2 - Like I said, it was supposed to be a joke. But it got people talking, so maybe it was a happy accident. We'll see.
3 - People keep saying this and I keep agreeing. The first 30 seconds of my video should make my attitudes about this issue clear
Did you guys even watch the video?

I was not offended. Nor did I consider myself to be "provoked." All I did was offer my opinion of how I play her as melee. I didn't contradict or criticize you in any way.
I did point out that regardless of motivation or tone, "You're all doing it wrong" is an invitation to criticism, but that was because I assumed that it was what you were expecting. I didn't say there was anything wrong with it, nor that it bothered me (which it doesn't.) ![]()
