Shades of DA:I pajamas.

FemRyder, on waking up (@1:35) is wearing the same outfit as in that combat clip (@1:19) or when she's running (@0:55). Now I ask you.  Why would anyone go in statsis or cryo sleep wearing combat armour? Normally, you wear on board ship fatigues or other clothing suitable for internal ship tasks.... you don't see submarine crews wearing diving/scuba gear inside a sub, do you?

So, is Bio too lazy to provide proper ship uniforms?  I was under the impression that cut scenes were in game generated. If so, they should show "proper" ship uniforms and not combat gear. Is Montreal Bio bypassing the pajamas issue by having Rider permanently wear the same gear as a cost cutting measure? Is this their solution to avoid cut scene conflicts with what you are actually carrying / wearing? ... a "one size fit for all occasions", so to speak?

Unless the studio proves me wrong, I am soooo disappointed. And, if they cut "little corners" like this one, what else have they cut?

What do you think? Will we see her wearing that outfit all the time?

I think what we saw was unfinished alpha footage. Just to get something out.

There are other science fiction franchises that do that, so I think it is more following that mindset. For example in the Halo franchise when on the ship instead of wearing a uniform a Spartan wears their underarmor, then when going into combat they equip the outer armor pieces to it. Bioware at SDCC 2014 described pretty much the exact same premise: That Ryder's casual wear, or one of them, will be the underarmor and your armor is equipped to it.

That said, as mentioned above Bioware mentioned having different casual wear options like before so I wouldn't be surprised if one of those is a uniform, like they did with Mass Effect 2 and 3.

I opened this expecting it to be someone complaining that the game wasn't going to get released by Christmas :D

If that's an opening cutscene, it may take place before you get to do any sort of outfit selection so it may not be a reflection of what will be available in the game at all.  It could also be some Alpha footage that will get changed.

I agree that Bioware seems to have a "thing" for people sleeping in full armor, though.  I was always disappointed that none of the NPCs had alternate casual wear for walking around the ship and other off-duty moments.  Hopefully, Bioware will improve on this with ME:A... but we'll just have to wait to see.

BioWare is infamous for their corner cutting. After all, they had Traynor shower with her underwear on.

We're going to be like Master Chief, who doesn't take his armour off for a full 3 games.

That, if anything, is lazy corner cutting.

That's incredibly common for the industry to do.

Considering we're not going to wait until the game is already done to actually market it. That would be stupid.

Meh.

They're stringing you along at minimal cost and its a game. Those two things explain it.

As for everything else, it's explained by this vague reference to Kasumi Goto's favorite Hanar.

You: I may well blow a quad when we finally get this info dump.

Big Stupid Jellyfish: You may be, delayed.

Evil SOBs those Hanar.

Should kill'em all!

I honestly don't think so.  I think that skins are one the last made things for a game, but I could be wrong.

If you're combat personnel, then it wouldn't be too surprising. If we're leaving during ME3, then defense would probably be the last ones in the tube and the first ones out, and I'd imagine that the last ones in might have to do so hastily. But if BioWare are cutting corners, this is one of the better places to do it.

Seriously though, why do people think BioWare is throwing out casual wear? I've heard some serious FUD before, but this is just petty and absurd.

It really depends. The pipeline likely favors content that needs to be finished first, so it can go through more iterations. In this case: combat is the first thing I would prioritize, and thus combat armor. Even most dialog would (or at least could) also happen in suit, so BioWare could probably wait on the casual wear until later on. Extra skins and cosmetic items are easily held off until last because the Art team doesn't usually have as much to do during the last stretch of bug fixing.

Well, I hope so.  But, waking up should be in "casual" not in armour. It gives the wrong message.

The last 4 Bioware games in a row have had PJ's (no matter how ugly). I'm pretty sure we'll get some PJ's again.

Also Bioware isn't a scrooge, this is a scrooge:

I'm sure Ryder will either have a t-shirt with shorts or a t-shirt with BDU bottoms.

Why though?Even if you are correct, which I seriously doubt, we're military personnel possibly leaving from an active conflict zone to a potentially hostile galaxy. Why is it so unreasonable that we'd wear armor in cryo?

Even if the character was in a conflict a short time ago doesn't mean she/he will be in armor when sleeping in the pod.  I'm sure once the ships have left, everyone will be assigned whatever pod they'll be in. Why would they have to be put in cyro right away?

I doubt that what we saw in the teaser trailer is the opening scene. If you notice Ryder doesn't speak the lines. She wakes up, breathes, then the words come on when the screen fades to black and the title appears. So that scene is either a placeholder or happens at another point in the story.

Ripley in Panties is one of the iconic images of sci-fi. I demand all similar scenes be like this!

Oh yah.  Can you imagine the outrage?  "WTF?!  Why am I waking up on a an ark?!"  Of course, it'll be no different from the anger that some people have that Shepard's not in the game.

My guess is that it happens at the end of the tutorial.

I find that kind of charming.. to be so careless and un-invested to expect that. Like my friend thought his DAI character was the Warden for awhile. He just didn't care enough to realize at first (although the above sounds kind of different. They sound angry).

@ goishen - It's a fairly common tactic in movie trailers to show the audience one scene visually and play audio/dialogue from a different part of the movie on top of it as a fake out. That is what I suspect is going on here.

It's still not panties and a tank top. That's all that matters.
