Just logged into Origin only to notice that Mass Effect 2 started downloading an update 6gb in size. What is this update for exactly? DLC?

Thanks

You can check in the download window. If it lists DLCs, then it is DLC.

Bottom left corner, click on the progress bar, it should bring up a small window detailing what downloads do you currently have running and pending.

I got the same this morning.

The dowload window just says "Mass Effect 2" with no more details.

However, in the game detail, I noticed about 6 free DLC, released in 2010. I don't think they were there before.

They're been free since a while, mostly additional armors and weapons + the hammerhead vehicule and its missions.

When I attempted to log on to ME2 this morning, Origin said that an update for ME2 was available, and that if I do not accept, certain features of the game may not work properly. Then it started automatically downloading something, and a contract popped up, which as best I can understand it, seems to be the general agreement for use of the Mass Effect 2 software that I agreed to when I first bought and activated the game. I am NOT the computer savvy member of this household and I am reluctant to either accept, reject, play the game, or close any of the windows without more information. My questions are:
1) If I simply close the update windows and play, will the option to install the software still be there later, along with all the contractual information etc?
2) What exactly IS the update, and what features may not work? Are they 1) saying that if I play without accepting, I cannot connect through Origin and therefore cannot log in to the Cerberus network or access my previous DLC? Or is it 2) simply an update to make an old game compatible with newer systems? As I have no intention of ever using Windows 10, is the update going to cause compatibility issues with older versions of Windows or with Linux? Or is this 3) just an update to prevent piracy etc? Or is it 4) simply a fancy way of updating to a new contract and giving users the option to accept the new terms or decline? Or is it 5) to do with something else entirely?
3) The update shows it is only 29.62 mb, which Google seems to be saying is not a lot. If I do accept the agreement and install the update, and it causes issues on my pc, will I be able to remove it later? And is it going to reinstall the entire game, meaning I will also have to reinstall all DLC?

Okay, finally got in touch with EA support and they said it's just a patch and that if the contract came up, it's probably just that they made a couple changes and were giving you the option to agree with or decline those conditions. The patch should not cause compatibility issues with any OS, and should not require any reinstall of the game or DLC.

Was about 400 mb download for me. Anyone know if there are patch notes? I'm surprised they're still pushing out updates, even minor ones, for this long.

If it actually does anything useful any way of getting it if you've got a not tied to Origin version of ME2?

Is it possible that aside from the old promotional content becoming freely available they are now working on drm free versions of ME 1 and 2? DAO was just released on Gog.

Hmmm I only have ME2 on Steam.

Seems like most of the time an update is available for an old game, it is because Origin wants to kill mods.  Like in DAO.

This just happened to me as well (a slightly smaller update - less than 400mb) - after the update, I can now see a collection of DLC content for 0 points (e.g. Umbra visor) which was not previously available.  So whomever said earlier in the thread that this may just be a patch to remove some promotional content barriers from the time of release - they are most likely correct.

I just purchased the pc version (but was still playing ME1.. so haven't played ME2 yet). But I saw this too. I thought it was some unfinished business from my new purchase, but I guess not.

I have my origin games set to not auto update as I use mods.

I have ALL automatic updates disabled for EVERYTHING.

I have had too many things break due to updates to risk updating programs without good reason, and especially without (manual) confirmation.

For me the update was the promotional items - the only stuff I did not have.  When I got ME2 it was the collectors edition, so I had most of everything, except for the Dr. Pepper promo items.  Now all items are available.

In fact, it prompted me to do another runthrough of the game just to play with my new toys.

So, the update was a good thing!

So what are the exact items? I have the N7 edition and dlc.. so what else besides this?
