I agree that this "news" role has changed significantly since the advent to so much instant communication... and perhaps, in even our own future, there will be no place for it... but it's inaccurate to say that "infrastructure" has to come first when, historically, it often hasn't.

The desire to document and report appears to exist even when logic dictates its absence.

From cave paintings documenting a hunt onwards, people record what has happened, even if as a sideline to what they were really doing.

A fully occupied reporter seems unlikely, but the legacy of the ark fleet is likely to be recorded.

Rumor has it that Allers (Jessica Chobot) was on the game purely so IGN would give ME3 a good score. At some point it doesn't make full sense, but then again Allers was the most useless character ever, so who knows.

I believe the whole concept of an imbedded reporter could have been done infinitely better than it was done in ME3.  If they do introduce the concept of a reporter in some way in ME:A... I really do hope they do a much, much better job of it.

Couldn't care less.  Don't think it fits either.  It kind of fit with ME3, but I didn't care about it anyway.

I'm grasping at straws, but I think it was a late idea. They had better versions for Emily Wong and Khalisah in the original script.. This is probably a result of streamlining and not having time for all that. Someone's bright idea that an IGN celebrity would be just as good.

you are failing to grasp the INFRASTRUCTURE required to maintain the 'city'. The fact that teh ships are "city" like doesn't create infrastructure to supply them. They need agriculture to feed themselves, they need light industry to create parts to replace those that wear out. They need heavy industry to create the building materials to create the infrastructure they don't have. You need transportation infrastructure to move supplies from where they are created to the people who need them.

You are ignoring the fact that NONE of this infrastructure is in Andromeda it has to be created having service industries are the LAST things to develop. This is why you see economies evolve from agrarian to industrial to service. You can't bypass these steps. IT requires that you develop an agrarian infrastructure first you need EXCESS food to feed and grow your populace, you need INDUSTRY to create the tools you need to maintain your existing infrastructure and industry to create teh building materials to expand your infrastructure. This isn't simply transporting a city from one spot to another. You need roads, docks, space ports just for a transportation network. But you also need pasts for existing vehicles to use the transportation networks, you need to create more ships, vehicles and 'cars' to fill the need to move things along your transportation infrastructure that doesn't exist yet. These vehicles need power and power needs some type of fuel. Said fuel has to be processed which requires still more infrastructure. You need infrastructure to create the tools to harvest the fuel, you need infrastructure to build the infrastructure to build the refinery to refine your fuel.

It is IMPOSSIBLE to bring all these things with you. SO having cities in ships doesn't solve the issue you NEED to build the infrastructure in Andromeda and it has to go in order and this puts service based job on the back burner. Simply because having a" friendly face" would be nice to have doesn't magically create all the infrastructure need to support reporters. The developers have told us part of the game is exploring to help find resources to keep your colony alive. So we know this is part an parcel of the game by design. They are no simply transplanting a fully developed community from citadel space to Andromeda.

Do gamers seriously think that if you magically teleported London to a different planet that it would one survive (assuming it was earth like)? Or that people would still go and get a takeout curry to watch the football match because hey all infrastructure is, is a city?

Like how Bioware took even the remote time to think how it could be possible that the Citadel would have enough food to feed that massive population? You're kidding yourself if Bioware bothers to think this stuff through.

Sure! And having one as attractive as Diana Allers would be cool too. If it's a she, she doesn't have to be a romance option but maybe a flirt option. Not that i minded Allers but kinda hard to ship a stealth "vessel", ya know?

No thanks. We're going to see enough weird alien monsters in Andromeda as it is...

There is already an existing infrastructure in citadel space to feed the citadel. Which isn't that large, 13.2 million people isn't beyond the capabilities of any single member of citadel space to supply let alone the combined infrastructure network of all the species in citadel space. There are desert cities on our own planet with comparable populations that require infrastructure to bring in outside food, clothing, parts and materials feed, clothe itself and keep the city running. I am not sure where people get the idea that the citadel is too big to supply.

I think you are kidding yourself if you think this is somehow evidence of a failure on Bioware's side.

Since Allers was mostly pointless (except for an implied no-strings-attached liaison), I don't really see much point.

Yeah! Couldn't even give her a good romance scene!! Waste of Jessica chobots time. Couldn't even lick Shepard's PSP. :(

Actually, it is. It's an incredible logistical achievement to keep a city fed generally. Obviously the food exists - that isn't the issue. It's about how supply lines for all of this works out. Depending on the size of a society, there's no reason logistically you couldn't feed a planet of billions that has absolutely no arable land.

The point isn't that it can't be done. The point is that Bioware took absolutely no time to think about it, because the Citadel isn't laid out - and doesn't have the volume of traffic - that makes sense for the kind of logistical challenge it faces.

Okay, yeaaah, they could have worked on the face more. I mean, if they can punk up for a full scan of default maleShep, they could have done it for Allers in the face, at least, as well. *sigh* Dat butt tho.

Only if she super sexy and has dat butt tho. Also she can't be annoying. Make her likeable so I actually want to answer her questions. or his questions if bioware wants to go that route for the LGBT.

I don't think having a reporter is a good idea because of the conditions in which the arks will operate in Andromeda. I imagine the military having complete control of this project at the beginning so we wouldn't need a proper reporter as info are released on a need to know basis for security purpose. I can imagine an archivist officer though keeping a diary, recording the most important events.

I think ME:A doesn't need one considering where the game's story is going. Since we're talking about "reporter on the ship"... Diana Allers is a wasted character imo, not even as interesting as yeoman of ME2, Kelly Chambers. It would be nice if BioWare decides to gives us a wide variety of NPCs to interact with instead of same old style, reporters in this case.

They should give us someone else to punch though like some cringey dude or maybe an actual punch bag in our personal quarters to which we can add a face to it with import image feature. That'd be fun! I will surely pick the below image :P
