Is it a case of having to be genetically close to humans (or one of the other species)?

You'd just need to be able to provide an equal number of chromosomes, right? If it is human and some other species, they'd both need to provide twenty three. I can't provide numbers for other species, but the same must surely apply, no?

The only reason we can't breed with apes is because evolution split one of our chromosomes up into two (or fused two of their chromosomes to make one - I'm unsure).

Note: I'm just providing food for thought.

There's a bit more to it than that I'd guess - otherwise you'd be able to cross-breed snails with rice or something... O_o

Assuming two foreign intelligent species could reproduce, would it be morally right for them to do so? How would other races treat or react to a hybrid? What sort of social and physiological trauma will the offspring be subjected to? Will the hybrid offspring be in good health? Most mules for example are sterile and ligers and tigons suffer from gigantism (often fatal to the birthing mother), genetic abnormalities and neurological defects. For intelligent species capable of producing hybrids I am sure it would be a taboo practice or at least a decision warranting serious consideration first.

Think of it like Lions and Tigers making Ligers and Tigons.

That analogy is completely wrong.

Also Milky Way species can't reproduce with other Milky Say species unless by dumb space magic from space bimbos.

Did it not get my point across?

Wouldn't those things be interesting to debate in-game though? Like the two people in ME1 that you can overhear in ME2 and ME3. They are talking about gene therapy or something and you can weigh in.

I just had a thought. What if a species from the Milky Way is able to breed with a species from Andromeda?

Now, I'm not saying every species from the Milky Way would be able to do so, nor every species from Andromeda. And I'm not talking about a race like the Asari that just breed more Asari. Think of it like Lions and Tigers making Ligers and Tigons.

After they made Garrus and Tali romanceable despite the dextro-amino acids problem (not to mention Tali's immunity problems) and after ME 3 space magic endings, there isn't much that could surprise me.

What would you say to that? Yay or nay?

Personally I don't want them to include any kind of hybrids.

It's strange enough different alien races are sticking their parts into eachother. I could only imagine what the offspring would look like...

it's not that strange. It's like saying it's strange for a Mexican man sticking it with a white woman. It's acceptable now. It's not 1798 anymore.

Humans are all racist...but why not, as long as there is a plausable explanation for the why or why not, and not just space magic.

Scientifically speaking.  No.   Species are actually defined by their ability to breed amongst themselves.   As a steadfast rule, different species can't produce offspring.   Just doesn't work.

However, in Sci-fi, a lot of other rules are thrown out the airlock, so its plausible.

Do the chances improve if they are green space-babes?

I would think banging chances improve.
