Bioware has mentioned there will be cameos in MEA. Due to how ME3 ends, we know all the characters we actually know about don't leave the Milky Way before the Battle of Earth, with the possible exception of the millions of people who were on the Citadel....or that could just be one of many plot holes....

Either way, the most likely way of seeing cameos would be a Prologue section, since the Arc's obviously leave before the final confrontation. If I had to guess, the Arcs leave after the Fall of Thessia, if the Asari Councilor's words of continuance of civilization refers to the Arcs, which if so, begs the question of how long were they planning this move to Andromeda? Both in reference to In Universe and Bioware themselves. This of course begs the question "Why didn't the Reapers find/ destroy these giant Arcs?" So when it comes to possible appearances for cameos, we obviously rule out the crew of the Normandy as of ME3, since we never even hear about this, let alone discuses it. This can lead to several possibilities, characters like Hackett, Jacob, Jack etc, all the characters who weren't stuck inside the Normandy the entire time.

I don't know if this has been discussed around here already. It probably has been, but if not how much effort do you think they would commit to this, if it were a thing? I am curious what people would think of something like this.

Oh a prologue would be very neat, especially if they do it in the same vein of DA:O. Make the backgrounds we choose to or char be a bit more important, and also while in it, provide some closure (and the cameos) while we are on earth and set some rivalry stuff between the characters that will board the ark. That would be neat but probably won't happen ;P

I agree. I want the Prologue to be about them getting on the Ark - a thing where for some reason your character face is obstructed (ie having to breathe in vacuum for some reason) wouldn't be bad, but a longer part would probably be better, and we all know that longer parts would require character face.

Why I say all of this, you ask? Well, it feels most fitting for the CC to be a part of a VI browsing the personnel records and stumbling upon Ryder, which is when the CC begins.

It would be cool to have at least one or more missions in which we leave the MW. That way we would experience (and not only read about) why, when and how we left.

I assume like all Bioware games now, it will be in media res, and unlikely to be in the MW.

The new book is the prologue. Pre-order now.*

Also if you notice, in their EA Play 2016 Trailer, they show an Arc orbiting above a planet that resembles Terra Nova, with Alliance warships and fighters protecting it. This appears to be a snippet of a cutscene. Granted, this could be a totally manufactured scene for the trailer, but it is worth considering.

Actually I'd like this scene to be part of the game's intro.

If there is going to be some kind of prologue I hope it's really short. I would rather find out about what has happened as Ryder. Maybe there's some holovids that recap the last 500 years in 1 minute or something. It's more important to focus on the present and future of humanity, than some long ago past that can't be changed anymore. Of course new players need know why we are here in Andromeda, but it shouldn't take too much focus away from the current situation.

Yeah, I really doubt it. I think the books will be the "prologue", and Bioware will explain little in game so new fans aren't too confused. Very disappointing, I know and I agree.

I also think the Arks will leave at different times. In the trailer, we see three above a non destroyed Earth. I think the human vessel(s) will leave right before the start of the war, and other species Arks possibly later on (like the Asari post-Thessia).

This would be an extremely easy way to introduce drama too - not all Arks arrive at the same time in Andromeda or at the same place. A story point could be making contact with them, especially if they are each launching their own colonization and exploration efforts.

Yes. Cameo appearance was mentioned and these minor characters can pop up while:

1. Ryder is reviewing the last news broadcasts.

2. Reviewing her orders.

3. Reviewing her messages from family or from the ARKCON project people.

4. Last messages from her "boot camp" buddies that failed to make it

5. From combat tutorials.

Remember, ME:A is a stand alone game.... meaning you don't have to play the trilogy games to understand and play it. This implies that the cameos are not integral to the story or previous games. For newbies, they are just unknown characters.

that's doubtful and it being a stand alone is not set in stone. Also his/her.

I don't think that the cameos will be in person, but limited to just references and callbacks to previous characters from the series.

So you might hear a Volus quip that they can offer you a "Heavy risk... but the priiize", but Jacob won't show up demanding a royalty check?

Thats not a Cameo, that is by definition a reference, a call back. A cameo has a very particular meaning.

I wouldn't mind a prologue in the Milk Way if it means giving the player a satisfying, creative and reasonable explanation of how the Arks came to be.

Yes, the prologue over Earth. Let's look at another possibility - introduction ala Shepard, where two people talk about Ryder and then you're thrown into the CC.

A short part of the game - entirety of the Prologue, not more than one, maybe two hours -  then takes part on Earth, involves no "live" combat, and perhaps no combat at all (you would simply get the feel for the characters, story and game in general), favoring conversation and story instead.

As always, speculation and wishes, yes... but maybe we're on to something here.

But Bioware has only stated references and call backs to previous games will be probably included, but that it's unlikely previous characters will appear due to the new galaxy and time jump we're getting in MEA.

They have not confirmed actual cameos from previous characters, not unless they happen to have been chosen to go on the ARK.

They have in fact confirmed "Cameos". They left it at that, but that very particular word was used.

Talking about the prologue. I wish the CC was the first thing we start with. It often happens that the character in-game looks different than the CC shows. It then helps that you can restart without having to go through the prologue and go straight into the CC.

It could start as simple as Mass Effect 1 which was basically recreating a damaged profile such as by creating the character and selecting the character class. It was before the story had even begun and had no connection to it.

It could even be a nice mythology gag to have Andromeda begin the same way..

I always loved that intro, I thought it was really creative. Then again I miss the simple things from ME1, like "Stand by, Shore Party. Decontamination In Progress"

Terra Nova? The planet in the EA Play 2016 trailer is Earth, not Terra Nova. You can see the Great Lakes of North America as well as the northeastern seaboard, and the major cities are all where they are supposed to be.

I wouldn't mind a prologue. Shows Ryder on Earth with his/her family at Carowinds in Charlotte enjoying the day. Or could be seen at Niagara Falls taking in the sights. Having lunch in the 360 restaurant in the CN Tower enjoying the view of Toronto. They could be walking around Paris with the Eiffel Tower seen in the background. The next scene shows them flying to the ship that will be traveling to Andromeda

Or something like this
