Ok so I love that Bioware is inclusive.  I love Romancing characters in their games.  But I do feel they are stretching them kinda thin at this point.  I would much rather have a very small pool or romancable characters but tie the romance more into the main plot.  Just little things but as the game progresses have other characters comment on you romance in a normal run of the mill main plot cut scene.  Have things change in the main plot if you are in a romance.  It dose not have to be earth shattering stuff.  But just a constant running narrative that you are in a relationship could add so much to it.  Also if you are not in a romance it would not affect anything and those cut scenes would just play out a little differently.

But by cutting down on the amount of love interests they could focus and putting the resources into things like that.  Rather than putting together an extra 10 specific romance scenes for all the romance options.

This is what I would like to see.

The romances in ME3 were a bit out of control, but they did the job and it's always better to have too many options over too few. They were mostly carried over from the previous games, so I doubt that there will be as many in Andromeda.

I don't think it'll really be possible to tie romances into the main plot as important plot points and keep them optional. I mean, if it's important to the main plot then it kinda can't be optional. What would be better, is romances with characters who are integral to the plot, and the romances changing how you interact with them, change an animation or a line here or there, but I think any more differences in the main plot, and not romance subplots, is going to alter the balance of the romances and make some more optional than others.

That is exactly what I suggested in the OP...

Popular idea. Many romances that are way deeper than the orig tril. It can be done.

As long as all the female LI's are hot then there should be no problem. :)

Absolutely.  I for one would have ditched Blackwall and Josie in DAI and put that development time into more scenes with the other LIs.  However I was impressed that even though there were so many, you had significantly more interaction with them than you did with the LIs in ME3.

Besides, when there's 8 choices there's no way I'm going to be able to experience them all.  Whereas with DAO I only need 4 runs to try them all out, or with ME only 3.

In principle I agree.

But I can't help but suspect that if Bioware cut romances from previous games, it would have been the coolest ones that would go. I mean, if we had one male romance from ME2 it would probably be Jacob. Solas was one of the lowest priority romances of DAI

I couldn't agree more with this statement because some romances feel like they were missing something(Sera until Trespasser).  One thing imo that improved over the Bioware games was romance scenes/interactions with your LI. Dai had so many more romance scenes and better interactions.

If they did that, they would have removed the only romance option I like in Inquisition, with a romance I've been waiting years for. So words cannot express how much I disagree and am glad they didn't.

I think I've read somewhere (or maybe saw it in a interview) that BW wanted a more organic natural approach, instead of just selecting the correct options in dialogue. Your actions would be taken into consideration as well. It sounded vague, but at least they are trying a different approach.

Edit: Found it.

Romance in Mass Effect Andromeda will be a more natural experience.

The problem with deeper is that someone will screem they as a group are not represented.  Pardon me but every deviation of the norm wants their cut so yes the butter on the bread has become very thin indeed.

Is that Bioware's fault, I see it is more as the silly times we live in of unrestrained mandatory diversity.

It's an appealing idea, just wonder if it would kill the replay ability for some. I actually know quite a few female gamers who play games like Mass Effect and Dragon Age specifically for the romances (silly right?) but it appears to be one of the major selling points in the game because it's one of the unique factors within the game that not many others can do or pull off effectively. I wouldn't be opposed to the idea, I feel a deeper romance would and could have a deeper connection within the story and character itself. Not something I would be totally be against.

Just out of curiosity, what would be a non silly reason to play games like Mass Effect and Dragon Age?

That is kind of what I suspect as well which is why I'm not always in favor of fewer romance options such as four or less because I feel that more romances rather than fewer can allow for more variety to the romances and how they play out.

Solas' romance was a late addition to the game and he was originally not slated to be a romance. His romance is my favorite out of all the romances I've seen and played. I loved it so much. It had interesting character insight, a tragic aspect to it and it averted some very Unfortunate Implications because it did not have to have a mandatory sex scene.

I should note that this is less about wanting a romance that is of a specific sexuality and more about wanting a romance that has more freedom in how it plays out because other romances provide the high priority content.

They're definitely on the right path (going by DAI).  I've only romanced Bull so far but the scenes were fantastic, and being able to chose how my IQ handled the romance (hesitant or up for anything) was great.

A few moments aside, I felt and thought that Dragon Age Inquisition did very well in improving upon the dialogue wheel and romances so I'm hoping the Mass Effect team decided to take a look at it.

I haven't romanced her, but I had heard she had very little content and many were disappointed by it.  It's a shame they couldn't give all romances the same amount of scenes, from what I've heard Cullen and Cass got more attention.
