Basically, what do you want in it? Collectables, furniture, features...

ee-shipwall.jpg

For my part, I definitely want the ship models to make a return. They're a fine space opera tradition - or, well, a Star Trek tradition at the very least - and I have something of a real-world obsession with them, so...

axTiZ2T.jpg

Yeah, gimme. (For the record, a fancy Collector's Edition with a model of the Tempest would net a guaranteed pre-order from me.)

I'd also appreciate some more furniture/decor customisation generally. It doesn't have to be The Sims, or anything, but some basic options - couches, tables and so on - would be nice. And mementos - stuff you pick up on missions and then use to decorate - should definitely still be in there. Oh, and some sort of pet is a must. (The fish are actually another Star Trek tradition, but after two games, I wouldn't mind branching out into something new. Archer had a dog. Can we have a dog? I want a dog.) As for what's already been confirmed, I remember reading in the big leak that we'd be able to decorate our cabin with pictures we take while out exploring, so that's a good start.

Oh, and I'd prefer it if it wasn't a massive chore to acquire this stuff--like in the old games, you should get stuff from certain missions - like the Prothean sphere and that husk head - be given stuff by friends/crew members - like when Liara gives you back your old dogtags at the end of LotSB - and just buy stuff from shops generally. I'm not really a fan of having to do 'challenges', and other such things, to unlock decor, Assassin's Creed-style--it kinda takes me out of the experience.

So, that's me. What about you?

Oh, this sounds fun! They're probably no longer in the stage where they might add this even if they wanted to but it's fun thoughts regardless!

I'd like to have the option of choosing which items you have in your cabin so that even if you acquire something like, say, from a purchase or a mission you can deselect it as cabin decoration and reselect it depending on your fancy.

I like being able to collect spaceships to give the sense that my character has a hobby so that would be something I like to see return perhaps with a collection variety in the sense that you can collect other things. As dorky as it sounds, I'd like an option to have a rock collection because rocks rock!

Could also be interesting to have the option to have items from in-universe entertainment such as merchandise from the Blastro franchise and other such. Ohhh and posters! I'd love to have posters!

This is a game with romances yes? And you want the main character to collect WH40K figurines.

I'm willing to suspend disbelief temporarily, but you're asking too much.

Yes! Merch and posters is a fantastic idea!

Oh, and the rock collection would be absolutely perfect if, as some of us hope, Ryder actually has something of a scientific background, as opposed to Shepard's pure soldiery-ness. What kind of geologist doesn't collect rocks? (Or you could be a botanist and collect plants, or maybe even a zoologist, collecting specimens, samples and photographs!)

I want a horse to ride around on the ship. I mean, we're on an ark, right? We should be able to house a horse. Ken Ham's Ark Park tells us that Noah had dinosaurs on his wooden boat. Dinosaurs. Surely, I can have a horse. God says so.

For the cabin, I love the idea of decorating with collectibles that we pick up. I too would like to see the return of model ships.

Horses on spaceships are yet another proud Star Trek tradition, so I'm all for it.

I want my very own cabin butler. And I want him to be Hanar. And I want each of his tentacles to be holding their own tray each so that there's a tray of everything I need.

Also a personal mini bar, a telly, and nice plush rug to roll around on. And hanging herbs and garlic cloves, so I can feel kind of witchy.

Actually, yeah, I want to theme my cabin to be like a witch's shack or something. So having a cat would be nice too. A whole bunch of cats. But not too many because I don't want them to scare any of the Turians away; what with Turians being bird-like and all Turians might be scared of cats or something.

Err, do we even know if Ryder will be lucky enough to get the cabin? I mean, she… they will be subordinate so likely she'll be getting a bunk and trunk like the rest of the soldiers. We didn't see Shepard's in ME1 but undoubtedly they had a similar setup when Anderson was initially running the show.

Models of some kind would be fine. Maybe instead of ships, they could be the transport vessels like the Mako, Kodiak and Hammerhead.

Pets… Well, if there's room, plants would be cool. Could imagine the PC almost getting killed because they brought along a supposedly harmless vine plant and found out it was carnivorous.

These things could still be applicable even if Ryder only has a bunk and trunk: they'd just have to be smaller and there'd be less room. It would serve as a good way of personalising Ryder's space.

Oh, we'll almost certainly start out way down the food chain, rank-wise - indeed, I hope we will - but I'll be utterly flabbergasted if Ryder isn't in command of the Tempest by the end of, if not the prologue, at the very least the first act. I don't think BioWare have ever made a game where the player didn't ultimately end up in charge--Dragon Age II's the closest they've ever gotten to subverting that idea, since Hawke never attained much in the way of real authority*... But even then, she was still the one who picked where the party went on the map, and had a mansion.

Besides, there was some stuff about cabin customisation in the - generally accurate so far - big survey leak.

(All that said, I actually quite like the idea of Ryder spending the whole first act with just a bunk; as Shechinah suggested, it'd actually be pretty cool to be able to make some basic additions - a poster, maybe some stickers - to such a small space. When we moved up to the captain's cabin, we could bring them along as a reminder of how far we'd come.)

hqdefault.jpg

'Supposedly harmless plant takes over the ship/base' is another time-honoured space opera trope - though the main example that comes to mind for me is actually from Stargate rather than Star Trek - so I'd be thrilled to see BioWare riff on it for Andromeda. More weird Tempest-based missions in general would be cool--every space opera needs the occasional 'bottle episode'.

...

*'Champion' was a respected title, but didn't actually come with any authority.

It'll be interesting to see how they play their (writing) cards in regards to when Ryder gets promoted. Maybe it'll be like DA2's pacing, an act per responsibility levelment so while in Act 1 they're on a bunk, maybe they get an individual room in 2, just a tad more cozy than what the captain's use to. It'll satisfy the info provided by the one leak yet not allow them all the awesome which is the captain's cabin. At least, not right away.

Yeah, i forgot about that trope. Hmmm, maybe it'll be a harmless "plant" that's actually a member of a sentient species, and much like Groot, is either a "scientist" or better still, a doctor which has it's own "on board" healing modules via pods it creates.

"small space rodents". Are we still on about Allers? While she appeals to some it's best to leave her trope tripe behind with the others.

There was that N7 Day "trailer" which had that portrait of a woman and two small children (presumably Ryder siblings and their mother). So maybe she could have that picture on her desk.

Other than that... no fish this time around, I hope. For a pet I would prefer war dog that you can take with you to missions (if you want) or maybe some weird intelligent little alien creature that can speak and play cards. If there is some furniture like a sofa then I would appreciate it if Ryder could actually sit down. Own library would also be very cool... especially if you could read some of the books (codex entries).

But I also like the idea that since Ryder is (probably) nobody in the beginning of the game she doesn't have her own cabin. She could still have that picture and other personal items, but not much else.

Color customization would be my most valued feature, and I'd love to be able to collect trinkets from various missions and decide which I'd like to display.

Holograms. Decorative holograms would be perfect. I'd also love to have a view screen in our quarters, and the option of having a kitten.

I love the idea of a small library/bookshelf where we can collect in-game books, antique or otherwise. They'd be a little like the short books you find in TES/TW3, though I'd prefer it if each individual book were a little longer than what you tend to come across in those games, with the added length balanced out by there being a substantially smaller number of books overall; that way finding each individual book would feel significant, and they could tell much more interesting stories.

The idea of starting off with the family picture from the trailer is great, too--Ryder could leave it sitting on top of the locker at the foot of her bunk. And then, when you move up to a better cabin, it comes with you and goes on a bedside table or whatever. (I'm still not sure whether I want to be able to rearrange things or not. On the one hand, it'd be cool, but I also like the idea of people visiting your cabin potentially reacting to your mementos and such, and that'd probably be much harder to do if they weren't in set locations...)

Colour customisation's a big one for me, too, and I have to imagine it'd be one of the easiest ideas to implement, along with being able to change, say, the material on the chairs/sofas and the bed.

And yeah, a view screen or window with a nice view of space would be brilliant, especially if it changed based on where the Tempest was at a given moment--with the way the Galaxy Map appears to work in Andromeda, they should already have decent-looking models of each planet, so it - presumably - wouldn't be that difficult to give us a nice orbital view while we're parked up there. Shepard's cabin did technically have a window, but it was in the ceiling, so while I'm sure Shepard appreciated her view of the cosmos when she was getting ready to go to sleep, it didn't really do much for the player.

If I'm going to have a pet, I want it to be a robot dog or something non-biological that may die horribly to a predator on an unexplored world because feels.  Either that or let me finally have my varren for...um...pest control.  [narrows eyes at BioWare]

I would like some move customization in general. In the Citadel dlc you could buy different furniture, with different looks for you apartment. Maybe something like that for Ryder's cabin. Like you could buy different beds, chairs, couches and desks throughout the game and switched up the look when you want to. Also maybe you buy or receive by progressing through the game different mementos in the cabin.
