Just hit 170 willpower. Many of my armor upgrades are Magic defense or eletric/spiritual resistance.

Are the fire/cold/eletric/spiritual resistances also useless now or they still offer some damage reduction?

What is yours armor upgrades?

Magic defense and elemental resistance are two different defensive attributes, each have 80% cap.

But can't they relate to same attack type sometimes? For example, the Venatori commander fire spells are both Magic and fire. With the Magic defense already maxed at 80%, does fire resistance add any resistance ?

Elemental resistances still function on top of magic defense. Magic is the type, reduced by magic defense, fire is the element, reduced by fire resistance. Having maxed defenses doesn't really leave you much choice for armor upgrades in general. They could have put a lot more into this side of things, but they didn't, so...

My Warriors have 81 Health or 16 Constitution arms and 27% Heal Bonus legs.

My Rogues have 12 Willpower from legs, or Sunder When Hit if I ran out of Willpower. Arms are useless with 200 Cunning (Cunning/Ranged Defense).

My Mages have 12 Willpower or 32% Spirit Resistance arms and 32%/24% Elemental Resistance legs.

...And that's it. The only variety is weaker variants.

So, max Magic defense(80%) + 24% eletric resistance = eletric immunity ?

Immortal AW :)

As I understand it, if you received a lightning attack with a damage of 100, you'd take 20 damage after magic defense, and the 24% would be taken from that, so the end damage received would be ~15.

Not that this makes the AW any less immortal.  :P

This was how I was figuring it too. So realistically, the elemental resistance upgrades become more and more useless as magic defense rises. At 0 magic defense, the damage mitigation is significant but at 80% defense, you're only saving yourself a few damage points by using the elemental upgrades. And in reality, anyone who has full magic defense, they probably also have significant constitution promotes for a lot more hp to mitigate the elemental damage in the first place.

So, I think 12 willpower upgrades are the best option from now on. No damage reduction, but 6% more damage.

But those elemental reduction may be still valuable on HB. My last attempt with a SS ended on zone 5 against a dozen Venatori Commanders melting my guard with fire.

Yeah, pretty much. At 80% magic defense, elemental resistances are technically only 20% effective. Anyone with high CON doesn't really need the reduction, but you can also expect them to have high enough WP that they don't benefit much from those upgrades either...so you come full circle to the lack of variety however you look at it.
