I smoke e-cigs.

Makes me wonder why they still smoke regular cigs in ME.

What if I just like ketchup?

That's a metaphor I'm not sure I want to explore too deeply.

Except to note that a terrible hot dog can vastly be improved by ketchup, but a really good one doesn't need much.

For the natural taste I reckon.

I use a decent flavor, but that sucks if they haven't come up with a more natural one by ME's timeline. Kind of like the cure for balding.

Dammit! Calling women dames made me spit up my gnocchi. Sauce everywhere.

Have we transported all the way back to the 30s to find terms for women? That's just all wet ya' crumb.

Damn right. We all know the 30s was the best time for romance in SF.

Oh wait....

Also, sourdough pancakes are a superior breakfast. Fite me.

Edit: It occurs to me that it's a large planet, and most people probably aren't eating breakfast right now while they forum.

It never went out of style with me, and if you stick around long enough, you'll learn all my other terms for women.

I have a term for you... 'moron' ;)

Also you need to learn what the 21st century is ;)

I'm confident that you have plenty more gross terms floating around that head of yours. I'm sure you'll get a snigger from your buddies but I'll take a pass on the degrade women with Seboist invite.

Hardly. Women folk had, unfortunately, already attained people rights like the vote in some places by then.

I might have being a titch sarcastic about older science fiction stories being better at romance.

I might have huffed an entire anthology of Amazing Stories yesterday, with a pretty broad time footprint/ The good, the bad, the nudists... Pure hearts, adorable faces, tender souls. It's played merry hob on what passes for my sense of reality.

Those early sci fi were some of my favorites. Like Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers. Which is true space opera, rather than sci-fi per se.

If that's what you mean by SF.

Some of the women start as damsels, but get stronger in their own right. Kind of like Tarzan's Jane.

... What the hell am I talking about anyways?

I've read the phrase "womanish heart" like 13 times in the last 24 hours, so it's not like I know.

Kindle Unlimited is one heck of a drug, and so are their science fiction megapacks. And I do adore those old stories -- hence my reading through them. But I'm glad that whatever we get in Andromeda is likely to get a bit more nuance in the makeout department.

Indeed, the John is a man's throne after all and with how hyperactive my bladder tends to be, it better be up most of the time.

People  ARE aware that dame isn't a derogatory word or a slur towards women, right? Heck it's still an honorary title here in the UK. Talk about outrage culture.

Words/slang connotations depend on where you are. They don't mean the same thing everywhere.

I've known several dames that found my usage of it charming in fact. BSN is a weird place.

OK so where is it considered to be derogatory? Tumblr doesn't count.

Generally speaking with any term. "Dame" also depends on context. From an earlier time it's usually used as a dismissive term.

The derogatory implications of the word (which are, for the record, recognized by the dictionary) came mostly from old American detective novels, 30's and 40's culture where the idea of using the French word for lady came with a derisive--even sarcastic-- tone, especially considering the scorn most Americans had for anything French.

That said, the stigma the word received was small minded in the first place, so it's not really worth making an issue of today. Especially when the poster people are criticizing says much more deeply repulsive things on a regular basis.

...Just to be clear, I'm not defending the poster in question. Just pointing out that "dame" is one of the least odious things they have to say about women.
