I killed Mission Vao. This doesn't bode well.

No big loss.

1)  That scene seems to be essentially just showing off animations.

2) They don't want to show off any important characters yet.

3) BioWare has done this type of thing before  (for example they showed a female mage in DAO that was only part of the group that assaulted the tower to light the fires at the beginning of the game.)

Still seems unlikely to me that the only character that was shown up close aside from Ryder is a forgettable NPC.

Her face also seems too unique for that, and the fact that they have shown someone working on her face specifically also seems to indicate a squad member or an important character rather than an NPC.

What would be the reasoning for putting a background character in the trailer so prominently?

What Beerfish said. They displayed numerous background characters prominently during the build-up to DA:I. It's nowhere close to unheard of, and it might actually be more likely if they just wanted a sample to showcase what they can do with animations.

I'm not dismissing the possibility that she's a significant character, I'm just a little skeptical of the assumption. I think they're going to keep any companion characters under wraps for a while yet.

Aria T'loak. Sexiest Asari I've ever seen and my only asari crush. Too bad she likes the ladies more. :(

Carrie-Anne Moss is not able able to have believable on screen relationship with a man or a woman in live action.

He's also wearing armour and there is a small biotic or tech explosion behind the curtain he's sitting in front of, at that point the knife appears.

Its clearly a scene with a story to it. Most likely a human pretending to be an Asari. That makes more sense than manly Asari anyway.

Fantastic to know that someone posted my thread to discuss it over on the ME Reddit for me, heck, they didn't even wait to ask me my permission or spend time referencing the thread, they were so excited to discuss it!

I searched through and saw most discussion about the Asari we had seen had stilled, and most was about Feature A or Detail C and so on, but I just wanted to toss out my own thoughts and kick up discussion.

To start, I think the character is a younger stowaway of some kind; if not just stowing on the Ark, perhaps on a mission or at some point having left the Ark and shows up on a mission.  The brief scene seems like they have some measure of pride before being caught by surprise in some manner, so I thought it would be a logical way to follow as a sequence of events; I think 'stowaway trying to help' because she does NOT seem to be all that aggressive against where ever she is looking.

I honestly have no idea about the eyebrows; whether that is a stylistic detail to increase motion capture and range of emotion, or if it is something that will be backed up by lore somehow in game, I couldn't tell you.

Still, I definitely think the character is on the young side, as the features are rather youthful.  I do not, however, subscribe to some of the theories that this character somehow has a gender-change from the standard monogender the Asari have, currently.

I do not think she will be a romantic interest; while I have reason to believe that there will be some sort of Asari potential love interest based personal experience, I doubt it will be her.

Totally agree with you, i honestly have no quarrels about the new asari so tbh any haters can keep their opinions to themselves in my opinion cos i just dont want to hear them any more lol

Honestly, I want a BadA** Asari commando as an LI... xD

But still, I feel she's more 'kid sister' like Mission Vao was /intended/ to be.

Yeah if there's too be an asari character on the squad i'd want it to be an asari commando.

I'm hoping she's very much a fringe character, allowing them to portray behaviour of very young asari

Well, i don't like you're theory.  <_< It's not mine. :D

While i think the likelihood of a stowaway is pretty small, she could be a forced option on the group.

The group definitely seems to be building up to be a ragtag group, with the Asari and Ryder being more youthful than we're use to. I wouldn't be surprised if the rest of the members follow this pattern, though this is pure speculation at this point.

I believe it's just a demo of facial expressions. Nothing more. That Asari was a deliberate decision by Flynn and Co, to show us that finally, facial animations are here!

The character itself, is goofy and I can't take her seriously. Look at the animation. It's purposely designed to show you the range of facial expressions. Plus, Flynn and Co are still unwilling to show us more about the characters. This Asari, if found in the game, will probably be a child NPC.

She'd require a stasis pod of her own to be a stowaway...otherwise she'd arrive as a very bored and possibly quite starved asari matron. Wasn't it mentioned that the journey took about 600 years?
I think she's part of the team, maybe some kind of blue space Merrill.

I think I'm the only one who would love a space Merrill or maybe an Asari version of Tali now that I'd pay for.

..hmm, she's probably like 900 years old. As Asari get old they get hair popping out in unlikely places. I mean, have we ever seen an "old" looking Asari? Yet we know there are old Asari.

She's probably some spry Asari grandmother..

I'm guessing DA2 Merrill, not DAO? I thought she was great. I didn't always have her tag along but she was worth it, in my opinion. Especially when teaming up with Ferris.

Same goes for Tali.

Still in hopes for a character like Kasumi, except romanceable.

Asari Tali is very different to Asari Merril.

Asari Merril is asking Reapers for their favour and saying: By Nazara Sovereign!

Asari Tali fixes your bar fridge in THAT position and then casually suggests sex that might kill her.
