As we are explorers, it would be realistic to encounter several colonised or even homeworlds in our search for a planet to call out own. I had a thought. What if we encounter a species that are say, like us humans as we are now? Intelligent, but not yet at a technological stage where they could pose a real threat to us.

How would you handle dealing with them. Avoid them? Fight them?

But most of all, would you want something like this?

I would personally make something like this be more on rails. We discover their planet which is perfect for colonisation, but there is already a species that live on it, so we avoid it. But, there are a group that want to go down there and take it from them. We have to stop that group through a few different ways. Convince them to stop or kill them, mainly.

So really, what I've spelled out is an idea for a side mission. Would you want to do something like that in-game?

I wouldn't want to involve myself with them. I think Star Trek had a point. Same with ME really, when it came to the Salarians messing with people.

We see it now in the world, where Cavemen now have guns. And other assorted toys to kill people with.

If they are like us right now, then there are billions of them. Fighting with them is only possible through Mass Destruction weapon and if you use it, there is nothing left to fight for.

I would advocate for us to go introduce ourselves to them, share our story and technology in return for a place in their world.

Preferably approach their equivalent of the U.N. first and then ally with the strongest countries to solidify our position in the world.

Easy peesy.

The draconian, amoral nature of colonialism should be an entire game unto itself.

Even with a dozen big Ark ships filled with a million people each wouldn't be able to take a home world from a species at our technological level.  We have 7.4 billion people... with nukes... and we would totally use them if our species was threatened.  They would have to be many degrees more powerful than the current MW races of ME.

And we just reached Andromeda... the idea that there's a species right at the spot we enter is - while not impossible, so painfully implausible.  These clusters should have millions of stars in them with the galaxy itself having hundreds of billions. The Andromeda arrivals should be scanning thousands or tens of thousands at the most (it really would have to be tens of thousands to find anything habitable - and even then it would probably take months if not years).

It's a little less laughable if it happens to be the fringe of an already established interstellar empire (going anywhere near the heart of said empire would be suicide).

So that last part is what I'm hoping for.  The equivalent of the "Wild West" for this empire.  It's the only place we would be able to get a foothold and try to keep it.

It would be a great oppurtunity for us to ask them to take us to their leader. I mean we'd just have to. How many Humans must be dying to be able to be in a situation like that? Of course, we'd have to observe them first, before making contact, learn a bit of their language, and while we're observing them we become a bit like what Humans today think of Aliens visiting and observing us. And then big Alien nerds will go ufo watching and they'll kind of spot us but no one will believe them.

And then we'll finally make contact.

Eh, the MW species could bombard us into submission from space if they really wanted to.

What would you ask them though? Regular deliveries of young maidens? With automatic mining and omni-constructors resources are hardly an issue.

I find bombarding a planet into submission to be hilarious.  Another one of those science fiction tropes that says everything wrong about the size of planetary bodies and the implausibility of having enough ordinance on board to bomb the planet and still leave it habitable (to anyone but the Krogan and Rachni).

And... again, some sort of shock and awe campaign that cows the populace should be an entire game... not just left to:  "Blam blam ownage." side story.

And these are colonists... not an imperial navy.

I still don't know why colony ships would have refineries for weaponry, ordinance, etc.

And if the people from the "other" galaxy found it... why haven't the people from "this" galaxy found it?

Showing us as "Those people who came and blew up a planet." would send any existing interstellar groups into a frenzy.

For the New World is like heaven

And we'll all be rich and free!

Or so we have been told

by the Virginia Company...

Securing the world's submission wouldn't need a great deal of ordinance, or risk leaving the world uninhabitable. Once you've demonstrated the ability to wipe out cities with impunity, and the willingness to do so, the governments will surrender.

But I agree that this isn't likely conduct for this lot of colonists.

I wouldn't bother with them. Too much work for little benefit. A cozy planet with no sapient life would be my choice.

Of course it would be nice when once we settled there that the local rodents were actually a highly advanced and violent swarm intelligence.

Like Tyranids from Warhammer 40K?

I really want there to be a race like the Tyranids in Andromeda.

Think i'd rather go the scientific observation/Prothean route of no-contact for fledging species so close to finding space flight on their own. And, in general, until it's known whether there's a Andromedan government already in-place, there's no reason to rock the boat by going in and invading a planet so it'll be a new home. This isn't some last-ditch effort for the Ai mission. It's only begun.

We need to find an empty planet with suitable minerals and food so we can create the new world as we like.

In my opinion we should find at least two or three planets to settle on just in case one planet is attacked and we are wiped out.

Why would we ever be attacked?

Weren't we invited?

Oh, thats right, we weren't invited, we are invading refugees.

I guess that gives us the right to invade another galaxy, alter the balance of power, and create an expanding sphere of influence.

Use thorian-like weapon to mind control the native species. Swift victory with no bloodshed. We gain first new home planet for humans, resources and free labor force. Humans can sit back and relax while the aliens work in the fields and factories. Of course they must be treated fairly - they are valuable and for moral reasons too. Once we have secured our place in the new galaxy we can probably free them from the mind control so long as they don't behave violently and accept that humans are in control of their world now. It's not fair but this about the survival of our species. At least no lives and resources are lost. This is a peaceful solution.
