This weekend I created a set of identical walkmesh helpers. The only difference between each of the helpers was the sound setting for the mesh. After testing them in the toolset, I found that the stone, swamp, and mud walkmeshes didn't make any sound. The first one is a little disturbing because I know I've built a few walkable placeables that use the stone sound. Perhaps there's something amiss with one of the standard 2DA sound-related files?

Okay, I got the stone surface to work by raising the walk mesh help a little higher. Unfortunately that didn't work with the mud or swamp surfaces.
The step sounds appear to be defined by the footstepsounds.2da file. I don't see any entries for mud or swamp, nor are there any mud or swamp 'fs_*.wav' files. It looks like those were just never populated. The thing is though the terrainmaterials.2da file does have three terrain types with Material set to 'Mud'.
I wonder if adding Mud columns to footstepsounds.2da would cause those terrains to make the mud footstep sounds?
Ed.: I tested a 'Mud' terrain surface (TT_GR_Rocky_03) and it made a 'Stone' footstep sound. Perhaps there's another 2da file involved...?
Ed. 2: The surfacemat.2da file has the Swamp and Mud entries commented out in the Name column. Looks like that may be the one that controls the walk mesh types at any rate.

Arent there tt_mud and tt_swamp? Rocky03 might be defined as stone based on the name.
My guess is that they aren't parsing the step sound from the texture name. They always seem to use a 2da file for that sort of lookup operation.

So it should be possible to make a new sand/gravel texture that had a sloshy wet walking sound.
Then I could use it for painting texture of riverbeds and seashores.
I think there is a sloshy walking sound in NWN 1.

They do have a set of puddle sounds that might work. It could be an interesting experiment.
