I've been debating this for a while is it best for the inquisitior to drink from the well or Morrigan?

I only drank from the well once for the one achievement. Seems completely uncalled for when the game basically tells you Morgan should be the one who drinks.

Without seeing the ultimate result, it's hard to say which brings about the best story. Logically, I think, it makes less sense for the Inquisitor to use it, but there's a sort of interesting foil thing by Quizzie put him/herself up for it rather than an underling, since that's in direct opposition to how Corfishystix was going to approach it. My general rule is:
-If I'm doing a playthrough where Morrigan has Kieran, I usually let Quizzie use the Well, since it gives her a good reason to want to get away from the Inquisition at the end.
-If I'm doing a playthrough where Kieran doesn't exist (which is more common for me), I usually let Morrigan use the Well, since I can't pass up the irony of her getting exactly what she's thought she's always wanted, only to lose the very thing she thought she wanted it for.

The irony is way too delicious for me to pass up. Bound to her dear mother for all eternity!

Inquisitor. Morrigan cannot be trusted with such power. My Inquisitor was dalish mage. That knowledge belongs to the elven people and she was willing to pay the price. My other Inquisitor (male rogue) also drank from the Well even if he was very reluctant and unhappy to do so - but anything is better than Morrigan having that power so he had no choice.

There should have been an option to force Solas to do it. Just let Morrigan drink and be done with it, I guess.

I find that the quest's name makes much more sense when I let Morrigan drink.

We don't know the full consequences yet, so... no idea?

I usually let Morrigan drink from it because it's called the Well of Sorrows and ain't nothin' good ever came from something with a name like that.

"It's called the Well of Sorrows... Sorrows... No one should drink from the Well of Sorrows..."

It depends on your character, for one. If you're asking from a logical standpoint, it depends on if you see the benefits of the well/dangers of it being in the wrong hands great enough that you'd rather use yourself as a guinea pig instead of Morrigan.

I usually just let her do it because there are too many warning signs, including straight from mad old Abelas, that there is a heavy price to using the well. Risking the Inquisitor, who would be less capable of interpreting the well's knowledge than Morrigan, just doesn't seem worth it. Stopping Corypheus is more vital than any distrust of the swamp witch.

Knowing Bioware, there likely are no consequences.

I feel it really just comes down to your character motivations. You can try to predict future plots, and how things might turn out, but it is better to just go with the flow, so to speak.

My Inquisitor did suggest destroying the Well of Sorrows, but since the decision is a forced "Morrigan vs. Inquisitor," my Inquisitor drank. My character didn't trust Morrigan or her intentions, so it was a simple choice for me.

Logically, it would be best for Thedas if Morrigan drank and then the Inquisitor put her under the same bindings Corypheus was going to use on Calpernia. But this isn't an option. So in that case, the best thing for Thedas might be to let the Inquisitor claim the knowledge so he can use it for Thedas' benefit, although this isn't really an option either.

So personally, I think it will be better story-wise to have Morrigan use it so she will play a greater role in the future.

If this was DA:O, it might have been. Sigh. I miss the old days where the protagonist could murder-knife people for no reason.

Morrigan does become kind of irrelevant to the story if the Inquisitor (who is relevant no matter what) drinks from the well. Best to share some of that relevance with other characters, yes?

As someone mentioned above, I only drank from it once to get the trophy. The rest of the time it was Morrigan.

The highlighted isn't fact....just Morrigan's opinion. Likely true if the Inquisitor isn't a mage, but still only her opinion since she has no idea what knowledge or lore the Inquisitor has studied.

If I'm playing an elf mage, then quizzie drinks and tells Morrigan to get stuffed. Otherwise, Morrigan gets it. Not because I like her but because she's the only other choice. Destroying it really should have been an option. If it screws you later on, well, that's what you get for destroying ancient magical pools of elven goo.

Probably.

Yep. Having Morrigan under the compulsion and with access to the Well's Knowledge could also play into the Hero who romanced Morrigan and went with her through the eluvian. If Morrigan is used for some dark purpose by Mythal, then obviously the Hero should be involved with any plot involving her.

The Inquisitor apparently has studied very little since Morrigan educates even a dalish Inquisitor on elven lore at times. Lol. Yes, you have no way of knowing if Morrigan truly knows more, although if you are not a Mage, she almost certainly would. And meta gaming, it appears she does grasp the well's knowledge easier.

My one Dalish Inquisitor is the only one I had drink fro the well and that was just for the achievement. And that was my third run through. I'm with Crimson on this one. Just doesn't make sense for the other races to do it. And yeah, there is the whole Irony thing. She's done everything she can to get away from Flemeth, but is now bound to her forever. Well... to Mythal... same difference I suppose. Plus Morrigan turning into a dragon is just cool.

I've been debating this for a while is it best for the inquisitior to drink from the well or Morrigan?

Personally it changes based on the Inquisitor I'm running. My Cadash Inquistior just last night made the choice to have Morrigan drink from the well. He couldn't care less about having too much power coming at a possible cost to his free will. He enjoys having the authority being the Inquisitor gives him but he also feels bound by the people's expectations. He doesn't really believe in Andraste and the Maker, and fully devoted to the idea of the Stone, but he's been telling everyone he is the Herald of Andraste to play it up as a con-man and now feels like he can't escape the reputation he built for himself.

The very idea of giving up any part of his will in exchange for even more power is abhorrent to him.

Whereas a Lavellan Inquisitor I plan to play next wouldn't think twice about drinking the well because it belongs to their people.

Sorry, but I don't buy the "Morrigan knows so much and everyone else is stupid" auto-dialogue the writers stuck us with. :P

As for what I bolded, I think that's exactly what it is.....an appearance. She is putting on a good show so the others won't think she's overwhelmed or that they made the wrong choice in trusting her. The Well "whispers" to her just like it does to the Inquisitor, yet when Inqui says it is whispering, Morrigan claims it should be screaming at them. Since she never drank from a well of magical goo before, and didn't even know the thing existed until Cory mentioned it, how would she know what it *should* do? Also, maybe Inqui doesn't *want* the voices to be screaming, since that would be even more annoying than just the whispers.

In short, Morrigan pretends to know more than she does, because otherwise she has no use. For me, I really had no use for her in DAI at all; she wasn't needed other than people not me like her.

My Adaar warrior reluctantly let Morrigan have at it. She still had some rifts to close, had no idea what its effects would be, and felt that a mage could better handle its energies.

My Trevelyan rogue will probably do likewise.

I appreciate the comments about the choice being race-based, but I'm also thinking class matters. I feel like I'd rather have a mage of any race use it than a Dalish non-mage.

It is a theory. She did mutter in elven though after waking; something Inky did not do. Of course, in Trespasser, Inky could say the elven passcode to that guardian. Eh, whatever. Maybe Morrigan is full of it.
