Hey guys,

 

i wanted to start a new warrior and i dont like to abuse the combat roll ability.

Whirlwind seems to be one of the best skills, as it's powerful against single and multi targets (with ability ring equipped).

 

What spec would be the best: reaver or champion?

 

Champion whirlwind+to the death or reaver with low hp and whirlwind+rampage?

 

I believe champion is superior, because of the combo mark of the rift (dragons cant fly away)

+ to the death and then whirlwind.

 

Which weapon is the best in terms of damage: prismatic greataxe or chromatic greatsword? I read the greatswords physical

damage is capped at 50%?

 

Any suggestions?

 

Last question: What race would you choose? I'm between qunari or human...

I think qunari look awesome in heavy armor like revered defender armor, but weapons look very tiny/small.....

If you want to build around whirlwind, I agree Champion 2H would be better.  It's synergy with TTD is hard to beat.

 

For weapons, you want whatever gives you good critical chance.  I'll have to look at the DLC weapon schematics again.  I'll add info here when I get a chance.

 

As for race...any.  Race doesn't really matter.  If you roll a dwarf, you just don't need to slot for magic resistance.  ETC.  Human extra skill will end up in a passive most likely.  Any race really.  Pick something you think is a cool concept rather than for stats.  I think Qunari is a great idea.  If you think they look cool, go with it.

I agree with above, but let me put another idea out there: Templar.

 

Provided you have the Stamina, you can Whirlwind/Vortex of Steel to pull more mooks into range, then Wrath/Purge them all. Alternatively, if you already have them in range but Purge is on cooldown, you can Wrath of Heaven to Stun, then Whirlwind/Vortex of Steel for self-combo damage (Rupture, which does DoT for 280% total bonus damage).

 

Clear The Path passive is essential for this strategy, since total Stamina cost is over 100 for all three abilities. Even with it, you may have to do some auto-attacks between Vortex of Steel and Wrath to make sure have enough to do Purge during the Stunned duration.

I don't think you can rupture from a stun with an impact detonator. Whirlwind after WoH would be a basic combo with no bonus damage. You need sleep to get rupture from an impact detonator or use a precision detonator with stun. I could be wrong though.

I think you are missing the key phrase there.

I.E. If you stun something, you have to trigger it with a Precision Indicator to get rupture.  Wrath of Heaven stuns enemies.

You're right! I just saw the list of abilities and thought they applied to both cases. My bad.

I've been thinking on this more.  Whirlwind damage relies on the necessity to build-up damage by whirlwinding at least a few times, hopefully more given it's traditional upgrade.  There are two distinct scenarios when whirlwind fails to impress.  Shielded enemies cancel whirlwind before a second rotation.  Despair demons, and nose that can easily escape damage, just fly away leaving you with whirlwind on cooldown after one revolution.

 

The hardest fights my 2H champion ever had were in JoH where I would have groups of shielded enemies (and casters put that frost dot on you), or when there were rifts with 3 despair demons.  I did try the vortex upgrade at one time.  And although this helped counter the despair demons "sometimes" it voided the damage potential entirely.

 

Just something to think about before you jump headlong into a whirlwind-focused 50h+ gameplay spree.  Hopefully there is something else in the tree that attracts gameplay other than Whirlwind.
