If you don't want to know who is romanceable - don't click on bioware_revelead_list_of_romanceable_characters links. Jeez.

Somehow, when I saw the title of this thread, I thought that the discussion going to be about the option of "surprise romancing" someone when they bend over in the shower. The internet done fvcked me up on so many levels.

Somehow I think it was intentional.

Prefer not to know.

Samara knocking me back.

Traynor knocking me back.

Mordin knocking me back as a broshep even though I wasn't asking.

All fun/funny moments. In Samara's case it made me desire the character even more. I'm a sucker for that kind of thing.

*gasp* You, the Krogan Lord, desired a squishy Asari!

Not knowing. "Planning" a character a year in advance takes the fun out of it.

Just like IRL, I would like it to remain a mystery. Wasted your time on the wrong character? Well, that's noone's fault, welcome to friendzone. It would be much more interesting not knowing who has hots for Ryder.

The Crying Game.

Actually yes, I'd like it if there was nothing at all said about romances at all.

Also, there is a risk of preconceived ideas of what a character will be like. I didn't imagine Blackwall will be groomy, I thought Iron Bull will be less hardcore in romance, Josephine surprised me because when she was one of the reveals I thought "meh", I thought Sera would be less... maniac etc.

Then, after knowing them in game is difficult to let go your previous misconceptions about how you thought the character would have been.

I'd rather know. I would just wait until they were discovered after release to play, otherwise.

Surprises in bed can lead to serious misunderstandings

Only serious misunderstandings? :(

I'd be happy with BioWare keeping quiet about them before the release, stops us from going in with preconceived ideas about the characters and splitting off into different LI tribes before we've even played.

But I would be wary of playing it blind, I wouldn't want to throw myself at someone like Cass as a girl, only to find out it ain't going anywhere and I've missed my chance with someone else.  They'd need to make sure you can flirt with multiple ppl and not get locked out too soon.

I am not sure. I have never looked up romances in a Bioware game before, but when I was playing DA:I during my first playthrough my friends went and looked up to the romances.  I was planning on romancing Josephine but when I heard them say she is bi, I changed my mind and romanced Cassandra. I went and romanced Josephine on my 3rd playthrough with my female elf. Then again, it kind of ruined Dorian's side quest for them.

I guess in all though I would rather not know ahead of time, since this is the only case in any Bioware game where knowing before hand benefited me. Plus, I prefer to avoid as much info as I can when it comes to games I know I am going to get, since nowadays developers give away so much of the game before it even comes out.  :(

Considering that Bioware is being all secretive on the MEA details this time around, I thought we should see where everyone stands on this.

Would you want Bioware (or any gaming news site,) to reveal who can be romanced before the game releases? Or would you want to be surprised and find out by playing the game?

Personally speaking, when DAI came out I was 100% sure I was going to romance Cullen first and Solas on my 2nd playthrough, even before I got to know their characters. I know Bioware revealed beforehand which characters were romanceable, and I was wondering what everyone on here prefers.

This time around, I would love to see who I drift to as Ryder, without trying to initiate romance with someone I know will accept me. Finding out whom I can't romance would be interesting, if I find myself going towards someone who is not into my Ryder.

Discuss!

This isn't like "surprise butt***", is it?

Ohh… guess finding out who can be romanced while playing works best for me. I'm not worried about the romancing. I mean, if all the options aren't my personal options, just means i'll skip them all. Kinda sucks to happen but damn, life be like that.

I would like to get to know the companions and if they can be romanced before the game. But I'm fine either way. Romance is not the most important thing to me. I just want to get to know the companions and especially Ryder. Will it be like Shepard where you could choose pre-service history and psychological profile? Likely not since the character is going to be younger, untested and unknown, not a hero like Shepard already was before the first game even started; but maybe there is still some kind of similar system and if there is then I would like to know about it so I can start to plan my character. But yeah back on topic: the romances... if they reveal them nice and if they don't fine by me.

Frankly I don't care whether I know A, B, C and D are romanceable or not.

As a straight guy, my pool of characters is limited to the opposite gender.  And, from the available female pool in ME:A, I can figure out the possibilities.

For example:

As a Male Ryder, my options are human female, Asari and the new female alien from the Helius cluster. A similar limited pool is available for other types. So, the "I don't want to know" crowd are sticking their heads in the sand. The choices are obvious. But, if the total pool contains multiples, say two Asari and three human females and two alien females, then the "who" becomes a chase of discovery.

Basically, once you know the character pool, chances are you can figure out the possibilities. The real question is whether the Bio writers decided to string you along with certain characters. Then, you to find out too late in the game, that you chose wrong.

I could take it or leave it.  I didn't have a problem knowing in DA:I, and I didn't have a problem not knowing in other Bioware games.

I found it was more important to know what classes characters were beforehand so that I could plan for that.

Reveal nothing, no companions names, no romances, no plot points, no backgrounds of anything. Keep them all secret, that's why Mass effect 1 was so good for me.

I don't really care. They'll never make anything as cool as they did for Male Shep before, so whatever.

I'll go through the motions, if I choose to do this at all.

Every option was pretty good.. and there were many. It just depended on how you played Shepard. I may be a Jack fan, but I can see that.

I love the chance to discover while I play -- that's part of what makes games fun. I want to be surprised. The less I know the more immersed I feel.

I don't want to know who the companions are and I don't want to know the romances. The problem with DAI is that it took race into consideration as well as gender. Ryder won't have such problems(?). If a character I like doesn't prefer my gender, then... Oh well. That's what additional playthroughs are for. But I always find a romance I enjoy for each gender anyway. :)

So I'll likely be avoiding info drops once they begin to hit. I'm fine with knowing after my first playthrough, just not before. :D

It would be interesting to not know. I don't know how likely that is though, especially if you plan to visit these forums anywhere near release. The only way to avoid that would be to just not tell us anything about the companions at all. That way people don't get their hopes up. The character threads for DA:I were like sad draft parties, bunch of people really hoping their top picks would end up on Team Romance.

Personally I hope they reveal it to those that want to know especially if there's only a small number of romances or they are gated.
I like to know my options when working out the character I'm role playing.
