I want to know, so I can decide to buy the game or not.
Nah it is more about RP than anything, it is also always fun to speculate.

Personally I hope they reveal it to those that want to know especially if there's only a small number of romances or they are gated.
I like to know my options when working out the character I'm role playing.
Well, that I can understand.
As Epantiras puts it:

My god look at that beak. If those lumps on the chest weren't there, I'd have assumed this was one fugly man. Look at the beak! And is that a soul patch on the chin??

What on earth is a "surprise romance?"

They mean not revealing much before release. In DAI, it's like people had to know all the ins and outs.

I'd rather know nothing. Just like John Snow.

I vote for discover in-game romance. Surprise!
It might help things along if they did not lock you out too soon, or if some of them actually hit on you for a change. I'm tired of being the one to always initiate.
Ryder wants to feel pretty, too.

What's funny is that everybody actively hits on BroShep (except Steve) and only James flirts with FemShep and Kaidan gives some subtle compliments. Oh and Liara of course.

Many of Steve's dialogues/interactions are different between mShep and fShep, with mShep being more favored. It's serious subtle flirtation. ![]()

I want to know as little as possible beforehand, the first playthrough experience is best that way. And since I will have multiple playthroughs, I don't need or expect the first one to be "perfect".
I have spoiled enough games for myself by searching wiki/forums/youtube before or during playing...

He doesn't really flirt with MShep. He is friendly, appreciative and opens up a bit. Shepard acts gay towards him first (these Paragon interrupts, ugh). He only subtly flirts at the Citadel bar but you can shut him down gently right there. I wish there was an option to encourage him to talk to that "eye candy" dancing soldier. He deserves happiness but not with my straight Shepard.

I would rather know before hand because I don't want to spend 30 hours flirting with these characters and turn out he's not into me. Knowing my luck, the straight guys in Bioware games are the ones who are not available for gay romance. The typical "everyday" guy.

I agree with you when you say Steve really doesn't flirt with you as MShep UNTIL you go to the Purgatory bar in the Citadel. And EVEN THEN you have to pick TWO TIMES the interactions for flirting in order to start a relationship with him. Those who ended in a romance with him and felt they were "trapped" in a gay romance... well, you were activately looking for it! ![]()
However.... showing basic human emotion towards a person who has lost a spouse is not related to sexual preferences btw ![]()
