I vote for discover in-game romance. Surprise!

It might help things along if they did not lock you out too soon, or if some of them actually hit on you for a change. I'm tired of being the one to always initiate.

Ryder wants to feel pretty, too.

I always felt like a creep initiating romances, especially in Mass Effect 2 where you had to go actively seeking for one. So I would agree, I would want romances to hint that they are interested.

What's funny is that everybody actively hits on BroShep (except Steve) and only James flirts with FemShep and Kaidan gives some subtle compliments. Oh and Liara of course.

Bioware are huge teasers. But I agree on this one...... please Bioware don't tease us with people we can't have, aka Scout Harding and James Vega. I would have romanced beefed up Freddie Prince Junior in a heart beat.....but no....

I like to imagine there's fantastic chemistry between him and my gal, and they've secretly got a thing going on.

I may be grasping at straws here.

Eh... just try to f*ck everything you can in one playthrough, don't bother with consequences or whether or not are they gender gated or romance-able. It's good for morale of your team and it helps with making alliances!

They shouldn't tell us anything at all about in-game events.

All I want to know about the vame before I play it is how the game's systems work. Show me the mechanics and the UI so I can learn the game and plan a character, but beyond that I'd like to know nothing at all. I don't even want to know the names of the potential companions in advance.

I prefer to find out just before the game's release. It's a nice middle ground.

Not knowing at all leads to to me pursuing someone who isn't interested, which is how my Shep ended up alone for the whole trilogy. I guess I'm just really bad at reading the signs!

Knowing too much too soon leads to me over-thinking for months before the game. That means I'm too stuck in my plans to change when the reality of the game hits me. Conflicting personalities etc are harder to adapt to when you have months of planning and imaging behind you.

Haha it was for pretending you weren't into me.

As for romance surprises, I wouldn't mind a beautiful crew member coming to my bed and trying to get frisky.

I made this thread to talk about whether or not Bioware should reveal which characters are romanceable before the game releases. Not about "surprise" visits from romanceable characters.

Do people read the original post when replying?

Mass Effect has it tougher on this than DA because of the alien races. Especially since we are headed to an unexplored galaxy. They can't show only the human romance options while leaving the new aliens secret or people will complain. So they are either going to reveal all the options or keep them all a mystery.

Sorry that dirty DA reference got my jimbos rustled

Would you want Bioware (or any gaming news site,) to reveal who can be romanced before the game releases? Or would you want to be surprised and find out by playing the game?

No I'm just going to play the game and enjoy the surprises as I go. Not a fan of spoilers, ruins the excitement factor. And romances, meh not excited about it in the least. No in game romance can quench this fire of passion burning in my heart.

I'd prefer to know my romance options at the start of the game so I can decide who I'll romance on that playthrough (I like to plan all my playthroughs in advance). Surprise romances aren't my thing so I really liked when Bioware released the info about DAI romance options. But I wouldn't want to know about those romances anything, just the options. :)

But I guess the difficulty is that there will be new races which some of them might be plotwise or whatever and I'd really not want to know about those ones. And if some of the romance options are characters from those races... Hmm. Problematic. Not sure if I would want to know about them in that case. Unless they decide to tell about new races before the game release or something.

I'm... sort of torn? On one hand, there is an appeal to stumbling across someone and really liking them organically.

On the other hand, they could be like Joker and not be into you at all. [GROSS SOBBING]

(Or Wrex. I was really into Wrex and the internet trolled me SO HARD when I played ME1.)

I'd like to know the number and, ah, types of LI, at the least. How many gay, bi, pan, or straight options are there? Is there a poly option? If there's an asexual option I wanna KNOW. (I will find them and love them.)

If they don't tell us specfic names before the game is released, then the characters have to signal us somehow, so, proactive LI's. I would not be adverse to this. Or, perhaps, overhearing gossip from the crew! That'd be neat.

But there is a sort of "fun" that comes with the madness when the LI's start being announced. I cannot deny that. It sucks to lose and it's great to win.

I hear ya, I can be so set on a particular course that it's hard to play the game more organically.  For ME:A I need to just start playing, and go where Ryder's heart takes her/him.

People want to know so they aren't focused on someone who might not reciprocate. Understandable. But I have to ask:

Am I the only one who flirts with more than one person at a time? That creates some choices... ;)

Well, I'm playing through both dialogue paths of Miranda and Jack.

And before that, it was Liara and Ash.

I suppose in ME3 it'll be between Liara and Jack. Too bad there isn't much drama there.
