The thing is, Samson's a bad person, but I'm not sure he's an evil person.

He's an addict who was turned out on the street by the Chantry for showing kindness to a friend (whom he later saved, even before he needed the guy for anything). He tried to give his Templar brothers something to believe in, one last time, before the end, because the world turned its back on their suffering. He's been kicked in the teeth by life at every turn. He's just never had a fair shot at being better than what he's become.

He was a good man, but his will is weak. I guess because of the lyrium addiction. He certainly is not evil.

Shale would be a good character to bring back, what with the new info about titans and all. Shale might even be able to communicate with a titan or get a look inside the lyrium that makes a titan.

Finn and Arianne, I don't think they should be anything other than friends, but it would be nice to see them return and see how they've changed.

Theoretically, Hissrad could return, as his body did not actually burn up or shatter or anything. It stays on the ground, so he could still be alive. The ending slide with him as a pincushion could be dismissed as artistic license, which it was.

Calpernia should return, definitely.

Meredith returning? I only see it as possible if the theory about souls being trapped in lyrium proves true, as seems to be the case with dwarves that return to the "stone". The red lyrium in the Fade gives a message with several self-references when examined. Maybe Meredith's soul was sucked into the red lyrium and transmitted via the taint to some large cluster where all the souls are trapped. Maybe unraveling the mysteries of the red lyrium will allow us to encounter the souls trapped within, and maybe one of them will be Meredith's. Maybe she'll be given the chance to help us help her and others.

Arishok(Sten) returning is a little tricky. He may have died in Lothering, apparently. But they could just have any replacement Arishok have the same voice and similar lines. But I think he should return and give an appearance. This is especially because his voice actor is Mark Hildreth, who also voices the Wise Human Male Hero. So this is one of the roughly 30 voices BioWare needs to bring the Hero back.

Another one who should make an appearance is Anora. Mika Simmons is her voice actress, and she did the Violent Human Female voice as well. She also voices Charter, who is likely to play a larger role in the next game, more so than Anora will. Not sure how Anora would play into any plot with Tevinter, but who knows? There could be more with the eluvians, and that might allow fast travel to Ferelden and back. Maybe something to do with Aeonar.

Honestly the only one I actually do want to return is Dorian, and that's only because we're apparently going to Tevinter.

EDIT: Oh gosh this was supposed to be for companions only, my bad. It's late here. Oh well. Sorry...

Should return:

- Solas (obviously)

- Morrigan & Keiran

- "YOUR TRAINER". The rift mage trainer at Skyhold. I just. Loved her. So much.
- Inquisitor

- that final dragon from Trespasser (if freed)
- Dorian, because Tevinter

- THE ENTIRE ELVEN PANTHEON of crazy powerful mage beings (technically not really returning characters from previous games but still, I am so excited for this. I like to imagine Arlathan as a dysfunctional family sitcom.)

- Vivienne, Cassandra, Leliana (if elected as Divine) - I would like to see whoever was chosen as Divine in a small role only

- Desire demons (Can never have too many, am I right?)

- SANDAL

- COLE!!!!

- Merrill - BECAUSE ELUVIANS

Should not:

- Scout Harding. (Though she probably will appear again because of the positive fan reaction overall, to me she was hands down the most boring character in the entirety of DAI. On second playthrough I skipped most of her dialogue because I was falling asleep. Don't understand why people love her.)
- Blackwall (SAME AS ABOVE. What an unimaginative, oversimplified arc this guy had. He was ONLY good for the odd party banter moment.)

- Varric (his story has concluded)

- Josephine

- Ohgren (ew)

Don't care:

- Isabela, Fenris, Zev, Sten, Cullen

Become companions:

- Calpernia, because of the Tevinter connection. Also because she was a standout supporting character. I found her to be a real surprise. A compelling character with great writing.

- Briala, BECAUSE ELUVIANS

- Skyhold's bartender ;P

I wouldn't mind Kieran as a companion. If he exists in certain play throughs. He could be the mage version of Aria from GOT. The youngest companion of the group tossed into situations outside his control. Age doesn't save you from tragedy. This is dark fantasy.

I want Cass to keep returning till she's old and grey, but that's probably just me.

I would love to see Dorian back. I feel like his best stories are still ahead of him. We need to see him showing Tevinter how it's done! (I'm not sure what 'it' is, but it'll be entertaining)

I'd miss Varric, but don't really want him as ... oh forget it, I'll have him along.

I want to know what's happening with Lels. And it won't happen, but if she were an actual party member again, I would flat-out die in happiness.

I don't mind checking in with Blackwall, but don't really want him as a party member, not unless he's much less mopey.

I would love to see Fenris back, especially in Tevinter.

Don't care / don't want - Viv, Sera, Bull, Cullen.

The only ones i'd like to see see return is Dorian if the game is set in Tevinter and Solas if the game revolves round his plan to restore the world.

The possible exception to that rule is sten, who i feel should only appear if the storyline requires pulling in the Arishok rather than making him a cameo for the sake of it.

As much as i adore Isabela i'd prefer if they left her and my Hawke off doing their own thing elsewhere, rather than pull her back in. I also doubt they'd handle the romanced Isabela version well based on DAI's handling of romanced Hawke.

I rather dislike scout Harding so i hope she is nowhere near the next game.

Yep.

Cassandra (non Divine)

Cole (Spirt)

Dorian

Calpernia (companion this time around)

Isabela

Leliana (only as a cameo)

Ferris

Don't care

Meh, most of everyone

Shouldn't return

Alistair (sorry bro, i like you too much to let things happen to you)

Varric - I LOVE varric he's my hawke(s) best friend after all but I wouldn't want him there unless he had some story relevance or we were playing as hawke again. It just felt very different with him and the inquisitor. I doubt he'll be back though, his epilogue slides seems to imply he's staying in kirkwall.

I actually liked him almost more in DAI. Maybe because he and my canon Hawke didn't really get along. He and my Inquisitor are a lot better friends. But I agree there's no real need to bring him back for DA4 (especially since he's now the viscount). Still I wouldn't mind seeing him again if they did decide to bring him back. Maybe not as companion but he could have some small cameo and quest like Bianca had in DAI.

I liked him more in DAI as well. He's got a little more gravitas to him, but can still lighten the mood when needed. That's a good combination. Varric isn't my favourite DA companion ever, but he's kind of like a cup of hot cocoa, and you feel like you can pretty much talk to him about anything no matter what kind of PC you are.

Also, I think rescuing him from being the Viscount is an excellent reason to bring him back!

Should/Could return:

Dorian - obvious one really if the game is set in Tevinter.

Fenris: Again, Varric mentioned he was hunting down slavers, so that could work.

Aveline: Just love her character.

Isabela: some unfinished Qunari business there.

Don't think should return:

Varric

Morrigan

Leliana

Cullen

People who haven't been companions yet but could be:

Calpernia.

Abelas.

Krem.

Maevaris.

Briala.

Small cameos:

Hawke if we go to Weishaupt to find out what's going on with the wardens.

Carver or Bethany if they became wardens.

Thom Rainier if he became a warden.

Cassandra as Divine.

Provided they're alive I would like to see:

Dorian - he and Maevaris are heading the Lucerni party and I'm interested in their reforms.

Stenishok - our baby's all grown up and killing people. (ilu 5ever kadan)

Fenris - he's supposed to be killing slavers, was brought up in Tevinter and born in Seheron.

Calpernia - I'm reeeaaallly interested in where her story's going. I like that she contrasts Dorian and Fenris so well and provides an interesting take on the Imperium.

Maevaris - Dorian's close friend, Lucerni party, and history with Varric's family. I loved her WoT2 entry and have wanted to meet her since the comics came out.

Iron Bull - the Chargers at least hang out near the Tevinter border, he has a history with and intimate knowledge of the Qunari, and his story may be entwined with Dorian's. I'd like a dialogue mention, at least.

Solas - ...obviously. Or at least some word of what he's up to.

Merrill - she's been working with the alienage elves and didn't get enough time to shine when Eluvians were everywhere. She'd be interested in all this ancient elven stuff.

Zevran - unfinished business with the Crows.

Harding - squishy ball of murder. I would just like to see more of her.

Sera - not too likely, but she's been to Minrathous before and I adore her, so I'd like a cameo.

I'd like to see these characters again, but not necessarily as companions or advisors (though some are ripe for those roles). Even a brief cameo would be nice.

Return as companions:

- Shayle of House Cadash, assuming Shale manages to become a dwarf again. It seems possible that if she were to leave her stoney exterior, however, she'd die from old ancient age. Or that the ritual or w/e would kill her in the process, ripping her skin from her body (does she still have her body?).

- The ghost of Mhairi. If possible, not possessing a body; give us a break from having a possessed companion, but definitely bring Mhairi's ghost back. Might be asking for the impossible here, like trying to multiply zero, but I'd be interested to see some expansion on the lore behind what becomes of failed GWs (Jory doesn't count), instead of them just being history. I've been waiting for the ghost of Mhairi to become a companion for 5 or 6 years now. Throw me a bone, here!

Return not as companions:

- Leliana, but ONLY if she's alive and the HoF's LI, and only as part of their quest to remove the taint. The live HoF and their LI should return in some capacity anyway.

- Having said that, Varric and Bianca (the dwarf) should come back at some point, but only to finish Varric's story.

- Morrigan seems to be an integral part of the lore thanks to Kieran and Mythal, so it would make sense.

- Tallis should return. I know many people don't like her, but honestly, why shouldn't she return? She, like Gatt (Bull's old friend), helps provide some insight into the goings-on of the Qunari, and her story felt unfinished, anyway. Also, I want my 4th Hawke not to die alone... it's not her fault Anders used her feelings as leverage for helping him in his scheme, or that he'd choose some doomed mages (and Bethany) over his own girlfriend! (I chose the Templars and had a fling with Tallis, leaving Hawke's flame behind for MotA; just to clear the previous sentence up.)

- Dorian, The Iron Bull and The Sten. It's reasonable to assume that they will return eventually, especially if DA4 is set in Tevinter.

- Merrill. My favourite character needs to come back! Hawke's LIs need to make their eventual return regardless of whether you left Hawke in The Fade, and they should play the same role each time, depending on Hawke's fate.

- Anders if he survived. We need to see what happens/happened to him.

- Solas. Yay crazy plot-only-overpowered magical elves!

The Maybe Pile for future companions:

- Velanna always felt like she'd return at some point, what with her disappearance.

- Sigrun; same deal as Velanna. Maybe she could have a connection to the Dwarven Merchants' Guild, if we have to go to the Imperium.

- Seranni. OK, I know she wasn't a companion, but she is closely connected to one, and to the PC at the time. I think she'd make a nice companion anyway - she's a warrior I think.

- Nathaniel. I'd be interested in seeing him again as a companion. Not sure if he'd be too old to be an LI - Solas was 43 or 44 in pre-Tresspasser DAI, right?

Oghren, the grey warden, Betthany or Carver,Rainier, griffins, Morigan, Keiran, the architect, Hawke, Inquisitor, Cassadra, Leillana, Varic, Sandal and his father

It is concern only Tevinter and the war with the Qunari

Sten became Arishock,  Varric, Ironbull, Dorian, Fenris, Maevaris, Fenryl ( the dreamer kid in da2), Isabella,

If it is to save the world from Solas and the other old gods,

Should Return: Finn/Ariane. And they should be obviously in love but haven't told each other yet. And their personal quests should involve hooking them up.

I second this! I loved Ariane especially. Wish she was more popular.

Their whole relationship was cute.

Flemeth - at least I like to see her return
Meredith - yeah I know. She's dead. Still like to see her in another game since she's my favorite character in DA2

not return
Leliana - I don't see her returning, but its possible
Morrigan - I guess would depend on if she drank from the well and if her mother is in the next game
all the others that I didn't mention

If Flemeth is not dead that will make pointless that scene in which Solas killed her.
One resurrection it may be OK two however it would feel like a soap opera.

I hope that Bioware will not include Leliana enough is enough.

Morrigan story begun in 2009 and they aren't still done with it in 2016?Please this franchise it seem to revolve only around her,Flemeth and the Mythal story...when there are plenty of other things.

Like to see these guys back:

As companions:

- Alistair (I just can't help it)

- Scout Harding

- Aveline

- Ser Barris (I liked this guy - wished I could have interacted with him after promoting him)

As NPCs:

-  Dorian (of course!)

- Varric

- zevran

- sebastian (or as a companion if he has had some crisis of faith or something, that could be interesting)

- Thom Rainier

Had enough of these guys, they should not be in it:

- Morrigan

- Leliana

- Anders (I killed him anyway, the jerk - so he won't be back for me)

- Vivienne

- Iron Bull (I disliked his voice acting and his character too)

Should return:

Solas - I mean, obviously they have to finish this. Nobody has more "obviously going to return" status than Solas.

Dorian - He makes the most sense to return of any other companion right now. I would be fine with having him as a companion again, even.

Maevaris - Not really "return", I guess, since she hasn't been in a game yet, but she and Dorian are kind of a set, I think. Both are involved in the same plot. I think she might make the better companion option of the two, since we already had Dorian.

Calpernia - She always lives and she's an interesting character. She could be a good companion option with an interesting perspective.

Would like to see again/might make sense in certain context:

Morrigan - Some people are tired of her, but she's so wrapped up in important plot elements. She might have drank from the well, she's Mythal's daughter. I can't see just cutting that lose, honestly. I hope she comes back.

Merrill - What ever happened with her Eluvian? I'd really like to see what happened there and get her perspective on Solas and the truth about the Evanuris.

Sten - If we actually go into Par Vollen, then I assume we'll get a situation like Wrex vs the other guy in ME. He's a world leader now, so it makes sense we'd deal with him eventually.

Divine Victoria - Whoever it is, I think we'll probably see them again eventually. Depends on if we're dealing much with the south, though.

Vivienne - Even if she's not Divine, she's head of the Circles. I think we'll see her and whoever they choose to make head of the College of Enchanters eventually, but might not be DA4. I'd be surprised if there was no mention at all of what's going on with the southern mages.

Fenris - He was the most linked to Tevinter of past companions before DA:I and he has a unique perspective. I'd love to see him if we take an approach to empower slaves, or something of the like.

Zevran - I would love to see him in Antiva, if we ever go there. I think it's dependent, though. If we ever see the HoF and they romanced Zev, it would be nice to see them together, since supposedly they were looking for the cure together. Zev's relevance depends on whether there's a plot heavy on HoF or the Crows, though.

Isabela - I'd love to see her as an admiral. Possibly another that could be used if we ever go to Antiva. I would really love to see Antiva, just generally. It seems like such a cool place. We need a pirate heavy DA game, imo. It would be awesome.

Varric - I don't want to see him in a companion roll again, but it would be nice to see him in the capacity of Viscount eventually. I'd also like to eventually have a conclusion to the Starkhaven and Sebastian vs Kirkwall and Varric situation.

Sebastian - Personally, I'd love to be able to kill him, because I hate Sebastian. He's literally the only person in the series that I've ever felt that way about. If we ever go to the Freemarches, I could see having to pick between supporting him vs Varric, generally.

Shale - She was a really interesting character and I'd like to see if she ever accomplished her goal of becoming a dwarf again.

Probably not / not for a while / don't care -

Leliana / not Divine - It makes sense for Leliana to come back if she's Divine, but otherwise I wish we could back off her a bit. She's been really heavily covered in the games.

Alistair - If he's king (and for me he always is) then I expect to see him again, but I don't want anything related to Ferelden for a long time, if possible. I'm just so tired of Ferelden.

Iron Bull - I feel like he just has too many variables to handle well. Could be dead, could have been skipped for recruitment, could be with Dorian, but you could have romanced him or Dorian. Fenris was with Isabela, but they didn't keep them together, apparently. To use Iron Bull, I feel like they need to distance him from Dorian. They could have a possible line where Dorian mentions him in states where neither was romanced, but I don't see him appearing due to all the variables. They'd have to do several different versions to include him and also have the possibility that he's just dead.

Scout Harding - She's popular and probably will show up, but I don't actually care about her character. She just read as bland, to me. I don't really understand why people like her so much. I didn't even dislike her. I genuinely don't care if they put her in the game. I won't be disappointed if they do, because nothing about her rubbed me the wrong way. She just didn't interest me at all, either. Not particularly charismatic, no connections to greater plot threads or lore. She's just there. Given the choice, I wouldn't have her as a companion. I'd rather have people more connected to the plot and culture in Tevinter. "Random surface dwarf" just doesn't have much meat. Bianca would make a more interesting alternative for that, imo. She's more experienced, more knowledgeable, more connected. Harding is only connected to the Inquisitor, but we know everything the Inquisitor did, obviously.

Tallis - I hated her and MotA so much. There are plenty of other options for Qunari characters. Please let's just forget MotA ever happened.

Anyone from Awakening at this point - It's been too long, imo. Most people wouldn't know who they were now and I think they could easily find another character that would more smoothly fit in. I think characters like Velanna and Sigrun missed their window already.

In my opinion everyone from DAI can return except Vivienne because I found her to annoying and to "I know what's best and you don't" kind of person. Also Cole can leave since I found him to be to weird when it came to dialogue and a little boring and for me his personal quest has ended with the "spirit" or "boy" as result.

From the first game I would really like Shale to comeback, she (wasen't a he right?) was unique and really funny and very though. I also think that she could have a really special skill tree since it's a Golem. Zevran is a no brainer since we always want assassins to help us and he likes both women and men so that's an easy bonus for those who want that. Oghren and Sten have to return aswell, who doesn't like a drunk dwarf that says his mind and a Qunari that we all love. Sten also went back to Seheron and since we normally go to Tevinter in the next game and they fight the Qunari, it would be reasonable to encounter him. Maybe even Iron Bull knows him, that would be sweet. Lastly Sir Pounce A Lot, yes for me it's a companion and I want him back, Alistair would want that to, he would freak out, even for a King (in my playthrough). I want that sweet kitten on the throne next time, delivering judgements by meowing at criminals.

From DA2 only Anders and Merrill for me. Anders because of his character and logically because of his actions at the end. And Merrill because she's sweet and helpfull and my romance as Hawke. But if Hawke doesn't return then Merrill should not come, she should be at his side.

Mostly i want a new character to be companions and advisors(and have option to have a choice of my own advisors as companions who i recruit)

elf female mage tevinter laetan magister/ancient elf

Kossith female sareabas-mage

dwarf female warrior/rogue(harding?)

mostly want to see females non-humans, non-andrastians compaions and who would be Li for non-humans, noandrastians as mages heroes(who NEVER have any Li suited for them, only nonmages human andrastians), especially if they would be race restricted and some will not romance humans heroes at all.....this would be a real fresh air in DA games

want to see back as companion or at least have some cameo or info if they simply cant be in Tevinter

Merril

Velana

Sigrun

Morrigan(not as companion but want to see her and maybe she will change her body to elven cos she is a new Mithal avatar and she have a lust for magic/godlike powers what can be fully achived via elven blood so she need to change her body)

Solas, want option to side with him or Elgarnan, help with veil

Abelas

Harding

Shale(actually i want to have silent Golem from DAO dlc, hope DA4 hero could buy some)

Ogren

Fenris as slave to Danarius and want to see Varania as magister and their experiments on lyrium dalish tattoes

Anders, he simply cant die from some dagger what was clear in his backstory to DA2 when he survive from a templars swords and we see DAI art with him with beard in dessert

not really care if see or not, but good if they would have some mention at least

Alistair, Grey Warden Hero personal puppet king of Ferelden

King Bhelen Educan

Branka with golems, maybe she can sell some golems

Zathrian

Fiona

Vivienne

Varrick

Aveline

Sendal

Dagna(Bioware ruin her character in DAI treespacer endings, want original dagna from DAO)

Blackwall grey warden

Imshael, killer of Michele, i like to have deals with him

Architect

Hero of Ferelden

not sure what i will do with them if see them again, think they will become DA4 hero enemies and he will need to fight with them

Sten

Iron Bull

Carver as grey warden(usually i just leave him in deep roads or make him a grey warden recruit)

Isabella

Calpernia, if she is survive, cos my hero side with mages and fight against templars, so he is never see her

not want to see and if i will see them, so i only want to see them for  just kill them, not want anything exept execution of these

Cole

Sera

Dorian

Maevaris Tilani. and his with Dorian lucerni is a cancer of Tevinter, especially then we have a war with Qunari

Tallis

Sebastian

Josephine

Lelianna(hope she is really die in DAI)

Cullen(hope he is really die in DAI)

Cassanda(forcing hero to be friend with her so she will not let her damn Seekers to be restored was worst thing ever)

The only one who I really don't want to show up is Varric. He's one of those good things that, if seen too much, becomes a bad thing. He's reaching that overexposure point. With his story wrapped up so nicely in Trespasser, it will be a bummer to have him forcefully pushed into a future DA game. And Leliana had best just stay out of the picture for a long while, she had already reached that "overexposure point" long ago when it was made apparent that she was a writer favorite. A cameo or maybe a few codex mentions, but Leliana should really stay as far away from the main cast as possible.

I also really wanted to have either Cass or Viv show up as well--even if only for the sake of having a distinctly traditional viewpoint on magic/Andrastianism in a setting where magic and its use will be more mainstream. But since both are Divine candidates, and Viv ends up as Grand Enchanter either way, it might be best to leave them out.

Hence why now I want Sera to return as a companion. Despite being just as mal-educated and prejudiced as most of Thedas's common folk, she does remind you how the common people view certain subjects. I usually find it easy to forget that Thedas is essentially set in dark age/medieval time setting when your party sounds so....well-thought out, despite how progressive or conservative they are. So despite her easily annoying attitude, Sera will add valuable context where it is otherwise forgotten. Fenris can be decent replacement and/or addition if she isn't available though.

I also want Cole to be a potential companion as well. Having a spirit-made-spirit/man will be an interesting mix in Tevinter if that is indeed where we are heading.

Other than that I think some new companions should be added. Like someone from the Mage's Collective as opposed to the Circle/College, or someone who is from Rivain and has experienced a mixing of various cultures, etc. There are several viewpoints I want to hear from that have yet to be deeply explored, and having those viewpoints come by way of companions is, imo, one of the best ways to explore them.

Just Varric, I think. Everyone else can just walk away and never come back.

I guess Dorian coming back is fine, just so he gets an ending to his story (it's gonna be death, I can feel it in my bones). Not as an LI though, please for the love of god.
