Which companions do you definitely want to return? Which do you think should never come back?

And if we're moving on to new player characters, then I'd rather have a clean break.

The first character that should come back is pretty obvious... Solas seems to be the clear antagonist of DA4, or at least one of the antagonists.
Then there's Fenris, who Id like to see come back. Mostly only if you decided to give him back to Danarius in DA2. I'd like to see the repercussions (or just plain outcome) of that decision in DA4. That would be one sad encounter. Otherwise, I don't mind if he makes a cameo or not.
Dorian I think absolutely should, and will, come back. If the past 3 games + awakening are anything to go off of, I'd say Dorian is the strongest candidate for a returning companion. There's always a companion from the game before that comes back in the next as a companion again, so Dorian seems very likely. I obviously wouldn't mind having him as a companion again.
Maevaris should definitely show up, either as a companion or an advisor of sorts. As well as Calpernia, who I think should make a cameo at the very least. Iron Bull seems like he could possibly come back, what with his traveling mercenary co. or, if he betrays you, his ties to the Qun. And considering the Qun will probably be a large antagonistic force in DA4, I could see it happening. Shale too, for various reasons.
Other than that though... I don't really wanna see anyone else come back. I want new interesting characters.

Morrigan should and will return, due to her plot relevance via Flemeth.
Dorian and Sten both make sense as cameos given the premise.
I personally don't want any of the previous companions to return as companions. I'd prefer an entirely new set. Though I don't mind past companions returning as story NPCs, or past story NPCs returning as companions.

I want Leliana to return again. Mostly just to see the haters froth at the mouth in impotent rage while making 121 threads a day to whine about how they decapitated her in DAO. It would be glorious. Sadly it most likely won't happen.
So more sensibly I'd want Dorian to come back (if the new game is set in Tevinter) and possibly Morrigan. Oh and obviously Solas is all but confirmed to return in some major role again and I'm okay with that,
I do not want Alistair to return (again) or Oghren for that matter (Though that probably won't happen anyways).

I think none of the DAO companions should return especially the warden's LI. They're running out of excuses for them to be apart.

Honestly, the only character definitely coming back for 4 is Solas. If I had to guess I would say that Dorian (it is in his homeland and his is back there regardless of what happens in DA:I) and the Inquisitor (as the main character or a Hawke like cameo role) will mostly likely be in the game. After that I would give Morrigan (she knows a lot and Bioware could easily give her a reason to turn up) and Scout Harding (likely choice to take leliana's role) have pretty high chances of being back too. Besides them I have a hard time giving anyone else a chance of physically being in the game, though maybe Bioware will surprise me. I am sure there will be references like the Warden and DA:2 companions had in DA:I.

Should Return :
Dragon Age Origins - Anyone who is still alive , all the character's we're great
Dragon Age 2 - Only Varric / Isabella / Aveline / Carver / Bethany
Dragon Age Inquisition - Anyone who isn't in the *Shouldn't* part.
Shouldn't Return.
Fenris , Anders , Merrill ,Tallis , Dorian , Sera . Vivienne
Maybe Return:
Sebastian

Dorian should obviously return, probably as an important NPC rather than a companion. I hope we get to make him either the Archon or the Black Divine.
I would hate it if Vivienne returned. She's probably my second most hated character in the series (hard to beat Arl Howe for first place).

I want new characters, if the Inquisitor need people solas doesn't know I doubt companions from DAI would returns, at least like companions or major charactes. I think that Dorian may come back, like an advisor or something like that, he would be an exception, but honestly I would prefer someone new.

It would be too much coincidence if a lot of them travel to the same place at the same time in a world that it's supposed to be big.

Should Return
Dragon Age Origins: Alistair, Zevran and especially Oghren. They were really great and i loved them to have in my Group.
Call me weird but i think i even would like to see our Dog Again x,D
Dragon Age II: Fenris, Isabela and maybe Anders.
Dragon Age Inquisition: Dorian, Cassandra and Iron Bull.
Should NOT Return:
Dragon Age Origins: Morrigan and Sten. The latter could make an appearance but not as Companion.
Dragon Age II: Merril and Aveline.
Dragon Age Inquisition: Sera and Vivienne.
Don't Care:
Dragon Age Origins: Shale - I liked to have her and i would be happy if she were to come back but i will not be especially sad about it.
Dragon Age II: Varric - Since he was already to play in two Games i wouldn't be super happy about his return.
Dragon Age Inquisition: Blackwall - I don't see him in the future Game but should he be there i just hope it fits in.
Become Companion:
Cullen - I was happy to have him as an romance-option in Inquisition but i was dissapointed that i couldn't have him as an companion on my travels.
Sandal - I know its funny but i really would like to have him in my Team xD this just could be interesting!

Should
Dorian, as an advisor/helping NPC.
Maevaris, as an advisor/helping NPC.
Morrigan, she is the Inheritor - I suspect she'll be taking on Flemmeth's mantle and should be an invaluable ally against Solas (they already dislike each other).
Harding, as one of the advisors in the Shadow Inquisition (I always disband at the end of Trespasser).
The Shadow Inquisitor, to direct the new protagonist and his group from behind the scene - and for the final showdown with Solas of course.
Could
Fenris, possibly as an infiltrator into Team Solas.
Merril, for the same reason as Fenris - plus Elluvians.
Sten, as Arishok
Would like as companion
Contrary to most people I think there should be less potential companions in DA4, so they can be more fleshed out. And I absolutely need the ability to modify their appearance (like with Hawke in DAI). With that being said.
Kieran, say 6-7 years after Trespasser he'd be 18 or 19 - magic runs strong in the family and he would be another tool for Morrigan to manipulate events. The down side is maybe his carrying an Old God' soul for a time would make him easily traceable by Solas. All right the real reason is I want to have a cute twink as a potential LI - not a camp/sassy/stereotypical Dorian type. Make him reserved and thoughtful and he'll be the god of my idolatry! There I said it. ![]()
Calpernia, she's a powerful mage and she's already been extensively involved in the search for old elvhen artifacts - which is precisely what we should be looking for since we'll need those orbs to fight Solas and later on the Evanuris.
Should Not
Whoever is Divine, because she's too busy with trying to save/reform the 'sinking ship in a storm' that is the Chantry to go gallivanting in the Black Divine's backyard.
Varric, because his story is done.
Hawke, because I always leave him in the Fade.
Iron Bull and Sera, because I can't stand them.

I want new companions. If anyone should return, they should do so in more 'cameo'/helper characters.

Well I'm greedy I want everyone!
Would love to see return
King or GW Alistair
Lady Seeker Cassandra Pentaghast
Cullen
Fenris
Zevran
Isabella
Sigrun
Nathaniel Howe
Merrill
golem Shale
need to be companions
Sandal
Charter
Scout Harding
Don't care either way
Oghren
Leliana
Velana
Sera
Iron Bull
Really hope doesn't return or better yet gets killed off!
Vivi (die, die. die now)
Varric his story is done, let the guy retire
Vengeance/Anders if alive he needs to die
Morrigan not killed but she needs to be humbled alittle
Thom Ranier we have other real GW's to bring back
Aveline she's busy running Kirkwall for Varric
Josie she's also busy doing own thing
Edit; whoops forgot Dorian and Maevaris but I assumed they were iron clad choices for the next DA anyway. ![]()

I prefer fresh new faces
However, I really don't mind if they show up again in the next game taking on the advisor role / temporary squaddie at the beginning of the game when your protag was just still starting out at level 1 on shaky legs.
And they can serve as an info dump as to what have the ol' gang + inquizy has been up to lately.
And especially those who has that special "LI status": do it incredibly right, or not do it at all. Not everyone romanced them, some could be friends / frenemies / that dude or dudette I cant stand, so.. yeah.
But I'm all aboard in placing existing non companion NPC as the next protag's squad member.
Maybe people like Lace Harding, Charter, Rylen (omg BW pleaseeeeeee.. love his accent to bits<3 ) Calpernia, Otranto, Barris, Or whoever it is that person that you have in mind that I forgot to mention.

In terms of who I don't want to see returning in an important role (e.g. companion, main advisor etc.): any character that can possibly be dead. I'm OK with cameos that can be skipped if you're in a world state where they're not alive, but I don't want anything that would require an "I got better" asspull or a thinly disguised expy.

-Zevran
I only really want to see Zevran as an appearing Character. The tiny DA2 mission just was not enough for me.
Alister (as Warden), Leliana and Morrigan were already in Inquisition. Zevran did get the war table mission with that letter... but he was my wardens love intetest...so...
I would also like to see wynn again, but she is already dead, right?
DA2:
-Fenris
Fenris, because Tevinter and also my Hawks love interest and fav character ever. I know he can possiply be given back to Danarius or killed at the end of DA2 but Leliana survived death to, so...
If he is not in DA4 then i hope we get a Kodex that tells us what happened to him.
I would also like to see or read a bit abaut Meryl and Aveline. I loved Aveline, but there is really no reason at all for her to be in DA4
Inquisition
-Dorian
He is the most realistic to be in DA4
Also propaply Meavaris?
-Calpernia
I liked her, just sad that i can not go to the mages first, when i want her to be in Inquisition.
Whoever is devine will get Kodexes??
-Morrigan and Kieran
(Also Alister, because extra cut scene for people that have Alister as the dad???)
Cole maybe??? Cole has the least of ties holding hom back.
-Mabari and maybe Sandal
-Warden and Inquisitor ( I don't believe in the warden, but maybe the Inquisitor? Like they did with Hawke?
Don't want again:
-Anders
Because i don't hate him. I think his story is rather sad, when he is in DA4 they propaply will execute him. I dont want to make this decision in DA4.
And when you were not friends with him, like Hawke was, how could my DA4 character rescue him?
I mean I was really glad that my Alister is always king, ...sorry Strout...
Don't care but would be kind of ok:
-Isabella
She is great, but was already in 2 games
-Cullen
Was in 3 games
-Josie (in case we go to Antiva) and/with Blackwall
-Cassandra (in case we go to Nevarra or have a story element abaut the seekers)
-Sera, did like her... but i dont think they would really go with this Sera is magical/has the ghost of an elfen god theories.
-Varric: MAIN character of 2 games but still awsome
-Iron bull and Sten because the Qunari/Tevinter war??
-Alister mother?? The leader of the rebel mages, also a GW.

Most of the Dragon Age characters are old now, or should be suffering the call if they are wardens. Fenris and my Hawke are hiding in the mountains probably with their kids. My Inky and IB are cleaning up the remainder of the red templars....so new people would be best. Perhaps mentioning what the characters from previous games are doing, but allowing their kids to carry the story forward. Just not Morrigan or that kid of hers. I disliked the whole story of having my friend sleep with my husband to get pregnant.

Sebastian should come back. So we can kill him in the most brutal ways possible. He annoyed me even in the war table missions of DAI.
He annoyed me in the DA2, when he try threaten Hawke and Kirkwall. (And want my Hawke to kill his love/friend.) The bottom line: Hawke is not an executioner. Alistair killed Loghain with his own hand, if the Warden don't wanted to do it. Sebastian just a feckin blackmailer.

Should Return:
- Dorian: Can't go to Tevinter without having the Fashion Master in the next game.
- Morrigan: I'm a bit biased mainly because I romanced Morrigan and my Dalish elf fathered a son with her.
- The Iron Bull: Can't have Dorian without his partner being brought along for the ride.
Should Not Return
- Varric: He had a story come full circle already, plus he's now Viscount of Kirkwall the dwarf has a lot of responsibility now.
- Leliana: Depending on the player choice she's either dead, divine, or leading the Inquisition spy network whether it's disbanded or not.
- Cassandra: I'll be happy to see her again, but she would be busy rebuilding the Seekers or Being Divine.
Should be Companion
- Scout Lace Harding: Seems she's on the fast track to being the new companion in the next game.
