The calculation take turns...it is fast in modern gaming compared to the older ones
Round 1 - your attack score vs enemy defense score
Round 2 - enemy attack score vs your defense score
Actions such as overwhelm, shield bash, ect bypassed the turn
Dice roll mechanic takes turn, that;s why it is turn based
DA:I no longer use dice, they just scripting actions, and there's no auto-attacks anymore because there is no turn anymore
This is exactly how Inquisition works.
You attack the enemy, the computer does a "dice roll" with your attack vs their defence.
The enemy attacks you, the computer does a "dice roll" with their attack vs your defence.
Depending on how quick the creature is you get different numbers of what you seem to be incorrectly referring to as "turns".
Dragon Age Inquisition does have an auto-attack. I believe it is bound to the R key by default but I could be mistaken. You press it and then your character will stand there auto attacking until you do something else.
Furthermore, what exactly do you think would be the difficulty in implementing auto attacks in a real time game??
