I'm wondering how if i create a private lobby, and invite a friend, any friends of theirs can just jump right in without invite.

Is this as intended? If so what do you think the reasons are for preventing a truly private group?  I have no issue all the time with players joining in, and usually the ones that join are more than capable players, and this is not a personal thing. (likely an OCD/management desire on my part), but it seems unfair that if i want to invite friends of mine into a private match but cannot when another friend in match has their friends jump in anytime without even asking their friend.

I guess i really don't see private sessions functioning as private. This is probably a petty concern on my part and i get over it but it seems others also have this issue when they want to solo a map on private and their friends jump in uninvited.

Is this deficiency in dev forethought due to the limited budget DAIMP received?  In some cases, incremental improvements really don't cut it. DAIMP should have learned a lot from ME3MP, but it seems most issues carried over (lobby glitching especially).

I think what would have been handy would have been 3 different lobby types.  Public, Friends, and Private. I want to join in on friends matches but I also don't want to drop in uninvited or without prior carte blanche permission given by the lobby type.

Don't get me wrong, it's great to have active lobbies and players keeping things lively, but the structure is flawed and I hope it's fixed in future Bioware MP developments

oh man - is this about me? haha....

also I agree, that would be great.

Kind of the same thought; Kind of....

But it would be cool if you could see what level your friends active games are. I normally jump in from the PS4 now playing list.  I think it only lists the game being played and players in game. More detail on that would be great. IE: private, nightmare etc, Then you could message people and ask if they mind if you join.

Good thoughts. But it seams as if all friends and friends of friends can jump in on your private match.

So I have not tested it but if you go to your profile and appear offline I think you can solo without anyone seeing you. This is how I did poison. maces etc. I even do it now if I want to start Rion, luka or whoever on a threatening run. [ Don't want LB's joining in on those thinking oh gawd - he sucks. ]

I still can't jump in a game from the "BSN forum users" silver smurf set up. That would be cool if that worked as well.

It's actually not that big a problem in the PC world.   I usually found that at least 3 of 4 people in any private game are already on my list. :P

On PS4 you just have to mark yourself as offline and other people can't join private lobbies. Well all people in the lobby have to be marked offline.

Kane, my post wasn't about anyone in particular, just something I've been trying to figure out.  I didn't understand how i could set a private lobby and have players jump in.  Seems like a big flaw development wise.  Again, not a post about anyone personally, just me wanting to understand the mechanism and why it seems to fail given the lobby type titles.  The PS4 community group is a related issue that I also wish worked, but that would require coordination between Bioware and Sony.  Sony doesn't like to play with others.

Autumn: For sure, I saw this after i had gone offline and you couldn't join.   That didn't make much sense either as a direct invite was sent.  All that said, once one knows the system, it can be managed, with co-operation if necessary.  It just doesn't make intuitive sense as is.  I also likethe idea of having a 'Friends' lobby format as it invites people to join, instead of having to feel all invasive and sneaky.

The trick is once you get everyone you want in the lobby to then set yourself as offline.

I agree this can sometimes be a 'problem' as friends of friends can join a private lobby. Additionally, members of any community you or your friends belong to can join your private lobby. I'm pretty sure that private was meant to be exactly that but it doesn't function that way, alas. There was such an epidemic of random people joining private lobbies back in November 2015 (due to many people joining a PS4 community called Dragon Age MP) that almost everyone I knew left that community. Most times, people get on their mic and ask if they can join but when one is in a private chat one mightn't always be aware they've asked. I really love those who send a text first before joining, because sometimes we might be 'holding' a spot for someone who is finishing another match, or they got blue-screened, whatever. I can't tell you the number of times we've had three people frantically searching their friends list for "PlayerX" who joined the lobby! Although I've sometimes suspected that said PlayerX was really searching for a random group and for some odd reason the matchmaker put that person in our lobby. I really like your idea of three settings, K!

I personally like it when friends join my Private lobbies. (As most of them have been playing longer than I have and make life way easier for me lol).  I also like it because more people generate more XP which is always good!

I should point out that there are privacy setting on PS4 that you can set so NO ONE can see what you are doing, so you actually don't have to appear offline to have a private lobby.

I just join without any permission. If I occupy someone's else place, they ask for me to leave.

There 's so few players on PC by now it's been a long time anyone asked me to do so.

Sony issue

See a pattern?

For sure, it is possible that Bioware WANTED a Friends lobby but the set-up by Sony made that impossible?  We may never know, and wont know if it's possible if in future incarnations of DA MP there still is no Friends Lobby.  These walled garden companies ****** me off, it's why i never use Apple products.  The only Sony tech i own now is the PS4.  I liked the Walkman tape players back in the day, i could still play whatever i wanted without DRM bullshit.

Sony is playing with fire/killing their business after this nonsense of no media player in the PS4 (unlike PS3).  I can't put an audio CD in the PS4... Yet Sony is all about making people use DRM... Make sense much/often Sony?

I think part of the issue is still on BIoware though. ME3MP lobby was also craptastic.  DAIMP though crashes more often for me,  Both lobby systems are 'average' I wonder why Bioware is okay with 'average'...  Aren't these AAA titles now?

Its not impossible at all! It is made that way by design. In the privacy section you can limit who can and can't see what games you are playing and all of that. It's easy. The assumption by Sony is that MP games is something you want your friends to join in on so by default they can join the private lobby. But you can change the settings in the privacy settings so they can't.

Good to know :)  I do think it is still an issue as you'd have to go into your sony PS4 settings every time to change it when there could just be a Friends lobby option.  Not so much about not wanting to play with others but being able to moderate your own lobby.

All good, I accept the state of affairs as is, It would be nice to have an option in future MP, which is all i can ask for since dev work is done with DAIMP. MEAMP however is still in the works.

When I speak of private lobby, I'm usually referring to one in which I'm not soloing. When I was soloing poison kills, spider kills, and other types of achievements I had it set to private but left mic on so I could let my friends know what I was doing when they came into game. Those were done all before the last PSN update of course.
Making it truly private means all players in lobby (be it 2 or 4) must go into their settings to 'keep people out.' Which is usually not anyone's intent. It is multiplayer, after all. But occasionally, one might be waiting for a fourth and go ahead with match. And I never join anyone's lobby without an invite. But that's just me.

I actually have to work up the courage to join a game uninvited. I landed in a friend's match and saw it was private and felt terrible. Like I was the Kool-aid man just busting in. I had no idea it was possible since I believe the description says only invited players may join? Or something?

The cake will always be a lie.

But no, we zipped through the match with me collecting gold and them killing stuff just in case it was a challenge thing then they set it to public and we rocked on. *shrug* I'll assume it's fine until told otherwise.

Yeah, I assume PRIVATE just means "I'm keeping out random people who will die over and over in zone 1".   So, if I see a friend is in a private game, I will usually join without hesitation.  Well, unless they are running as an alchemist or assassin in routine, or some other way it is obvious it is to complete a challenge.

I've been asked to leave a couple times when I accidentally took someone else's spot, but I just politely left and (unnecessarily) apologized via text messages.

Just recently someone on my friends list made it clear that private for them meant actually private.  So, I left and apologized and remain on their friend list.  No bigs.

I was surprised the first time people started warping into my first private game though, and taking away all my poison kills.

I usually ask first. To me, private means private. I've jumped in before with good friends and will ask if they are saving the spot... ive had people join through DA community and that is annoying.

I usually will leave private game if I jump in and saw the host is not in my friend list.   I saw a lot of my friends would ask if they took someone's spot but I usually don't even see it until I was out of the match!   I don't ask and just join and if they are waiting for someone else to get back they will send me a chat.  As I was telling elf the other day... at this point of the game.. the NM players are so small we pretty much all know each others anyway.  It is really common to ask a friend to leave the game.
