For those who want it of course. I know im in the minority, but I really feel like ME has gotten to the point that for me I'd rather have a controller.

Don't you worry, after DAI, it might be the only legit way of playing the game

Which is weird because I liked DA: Origins with Keyboard and Mouse, but yeah DA2 and DAI moved so far away from it in terms of play style I can see why controllers were needed.

DAO was built on the Eclipse Engine which is a successor of the old Infinity (used by Baldur's Gate) and its successor, the Aurora engine (used by NWN, NWN2 and the Witcher); with a primary PC audience in mind. No surprise it was such a great game, and since, nothing has managed to recapture the whole feeling of it. Nostalgia rant over.

I did not have any issues whatsoever with DA2 as it still worked great on PC (it still uses an engine from the same "family" as DAO) and the core gameplay mechanincs and options were quite similar too, but it was undeniably built for consoles too (the game menus being the main evidence)

Hopefully it'll have native support, but if it doesn't, here are some links that might help.

I still don't see how a controller is supposed to have helped with DAI, which plays pretty much like Skyrim. But that doesn't have much to do with ME:A.

It'd be surprising if a Frostbite game didn't support controllers. I wouldn't sweat it.

DAI was/is terribly restricted on PC, lets hope that they don't make the same mistake with ME:A. I don't mind controller support, if you have more fun with a controller, by all means, use it. But i really, really hope they don't hold back on the K&M possibilities like they did with DAI. It is one of the reasons now that i don't play it that much anymore.. Endgame feel really restricted combat wise.

Anyway, the games that come out these day's are almost all focused on controller input, (well, the games in this genre), so i won't worry to much about it.

I like to disengage from hunchback-mode and kick back once in a while.

If it is a plain and simple shooter with no extra mechanincs more complicated than jump, crouch, greande throw etc. then it is a no-brainer to use KB&M.

However, in certain cases, when a lot of mobility and moving around is involved (parkour, jetpack, vehicles and such) and the gameplay relies heavily on using a small number of abilites I find it more efficient to use a controller.

Plus, if the devs nowadays can't be bothered to create decent PC versions with usable control schemes... (and no, I won't be buying a console)

These games started on Xbox, and where I played them first. So I just modded my PC versions for controller. I also just use my PC on a big HDTV, rather than sit in front of monitor these days.

DAO/DA2 were still good with mouse for me. Since I played a rogue in DAI, it was controller. That was crap otherwise.

But yeah, I'd prefer the option being built in from now on.

I will never understand what's so complicated about it.

I play DAI on my computer all the time while using my keyboard! It's not like Skyrim, where you absolutely have to use a controller otherwise It'll just not work. I feel like DAI was far, far, far superior than Skyrim in that regard of not forcing controllers on me!  :D

Any game ported from console has controller support. It will be no different for ME:A. I wouldn't worry about that.

However, players who do not want to play with a controller have a harder time, because often multiple functions are mapped to single keys and often the interface doesn't make sense for KB/M. So PC players should be the ones to worry, instead.

I play everything with a controller and mouse. I'm not sure why people ask for controller support. I map the keyboard keys to the buttons on my controller. I wouldn't be a PC gamer if I couldn't use a controller as playing with a keyboard and mouse is simply not an option. I'm not sure how anyone plays games that way.

Skyrim needs a controller?

Yeah, on the PC. The controls on the keyboard are the worse thing ever when playing Skryim, making me use a controller instead (aka plugging in the controller into my computer). It makes DAI look so nice in comparison; lol.

I have no idea what you're talking about. I played Skyrim just fine with kb/m. Unmodded menus were horrible, but a controller wouldn't have helped.

What was your problem?

I'm used to playing on a consol when playing Skrym, so using the keyboard wasn't very easy for me to use while playing it...

I couldn't move around when using a keyboard, so i moved to a controller so I could move. And it worked.

If you have a controller plugged into the computer, Skyrim will default to a controller no matter what (for some idiotic reason). You can disable via the pause menu, but only after you've started/loaded a game (for an even more idiotic reason).

More on topic: when asking about technical info on any Frostbite, consult the PCGamingWiki for the most recently released Frostbite game. I can't imagine that BioWare would simply remove low level technical features like controller support, so odds are, ME:A will have it.

It's not that hard to do this. I'm a console player and ive managed to program my computer to use a ps4 controller for video editing. (Rather use a keyboard + mouse but when I have 20 hours to edit a class project and 12 are spent in a car idle in a parking garage for work keyboard + mouse is hard.)

I will...

This is why I think Rogue needed a controller in DAI. The others not as much.

I don't think ME does, since there isn't much movement really (or acrobatics), but I'm just used to it on a controller.

If the MEA mako is anything like the one in ME I will appreciate controller support in order to make the driving a lot easier. The rest of the game I will use kbm though. I played DAI that way without any problems for 5 playthroughs and Skyrim over 500 hours without feeling the need for a controller ever. The only games I played that were a complete mess without a controller were Dark Souls 2 and 3.
