Now what I mean by the title is the following. We all know that Ferelden and Orlais in DAI have all kinds of people, black and white, male and female or even like "Krem". And we have special people like Sandal from previous games. Lastly we have the many races of course.

But I don't see any big people for example, why can't my inquisitor be fat? Not that I would find it funny or want the option to be there to laugh at, it's even in real life that I am bigger then I should be, so I don't understand why all people are very healthy in this world. However dwarves are lager but I think that's more muscle than fat really. I also encounter no deaf or blind people or even handicaped. I don't say that they have to be included, it just surprises me that's all.

Look at Skyrim for example, those who played it probably remember the famous blind bandit in the cave "Ulfr The Blind". Reading a book with nothing in it. I am not saying they should only be in the game to laugh at but it would make it more alive so to speak.

Again I am not saying we have to include everyone and eveything it's just someting I noticed a lot while playing the game. And I don't recall seeing many of those in the previous games either.

It's just a lot of work.. requiring more body meshes and specialized armor/clothes. In DAO, you had overweight people, but those were fatsuits, I think. That's a way to get around it, but it doesn't look great. Even Skyrim doesn't have this. You have to get a mod.

We don't have any fat people in DA because they make people sad to look at them.

DAO's npcs weren't actually fat.

Some had a really wide face in an attempt to pass up as such, but from the neck down still were shredded like Kylo Ren.

As for where BioWare stands on ability/desire to implement such... no idea. Seems more likely to be in DA than ME, I suppose.

Fallout 4 has more body shapes than I think I've ever seen, for male and female.

Not a real spoiler:

Spoiler

There are also NPCs in different shapes/sizes too, not just the player, and I was impressed. Wouldn't mind seeing more variety myself -- if it's doable, then why not?

DAO did, in fact, have some portly NPCs - usually cooks in kitchens - plus Lloyd, the tavern owner in Redcliffe.

Speaking of variety, I wish we had some salt-and-pepper hair. It bothers me that everybody over the age of fifty in these games has completely gone grey without even a hint of their previous hair color showing through. And none of the younger people are going grey at the temples as they age..?

Blackwall and Varric have some grey in their concept art, but it's not in the game.

It feels like listening to Jeff Goldblum with so many unnecessary pauses.

Well, Orlais and Fereldan are agrarian societies, where food is obviously less bountiful than today - especially processed sugar and meat, two of the biggest contributors to obesity today, which would be far rarer than what we're used to. Most of the fat people would probably be nobles who can afford to indulge in such expensive or uncommon foods. There's a reason why the whole 'let them eat cake' thing was such a PR nightmare for Marie Antoinette - because most common people would look at cake like it was space food.

I don't want to fall into the trap of saying 'fantasy games should represent the world we live in now' because if that world doesn't have the same technologies, politics, cultures and structures as our own, then we can only expect it to resemble ours so much. Sure, there are diverse races in Thedas, but that isn't really the same.

And, of course, there's the question of how much work it would require vs the benefits of doing it. I doubt many people would want to make their characters fat, and implementing different body types would require a lot of work with the character models and animations. It just might not be worth the effort, for something many players might not choose anyway.

Bear in mind it's ye olde medieval times where ppl worked hard to have enough to eat, but rarely had excess food.  They couldn't pop down to McDonalds and get food super cheap.  Therefore there are a lot less fat ppl.

But yes, more body types would be welcome.  If you consider all the work DAI took to complete, the incredible amount of dialogue, writing, companions, zones, armour being different depending on who wears it, custom made weapons etc, some things have to be put aside.

At least the main characters have distinctive body types.  Seeing Sera being a bit bigger than the average elf for example.  Having Kaidan, maleShep, Joker, Steve, Anderson, and every other bugger in ME be the exact same level of ripped was super immersion breaking.

I think it's just because Sera was designed before they included the extra races. She's got a human body. While Bull is different than other Qunari too. Technically, he's kind of his own class of "race".

Yeah.. I guess they could have redone it, but her head/neck is also shaped for a human body. So they'd have to redo that too.

Now, storywise, it just begs the question why she's so different... Maybe they actually came up with one. :P

I don't know if that's the reason. They always had elven characters like Briala so there was elven body type even before they added extra player races.

She might've not been designed yet. Besides, Briala (and almost every elf) uses the same elven template available to players. It's not a unique face.

I mean, Sera screenshots were shown years before. Must've been one of the first things they did. The custom elves didn't come until the last year.

Back in the medieval era the nobles was usually heavy because they seldom did anything and held feasts for any reason. Even the priest  ate better then the overworked and malnourish  peasants.

The Elves look healthier and far better in DA:O.

On a huge sidenote, I'd still rather be a peasant then than in the turn of the 20th century. Or some laborers nowadays.

They didn't have electricity.. so no long work days. Plus, they sat in taverns in the bad weather months. :D

Also, -- and this isn't better -- women's main role was seen as childbirth. So they valued ample features and things like that. Waifs weren't in vogue like they are now.

I was just thinking that, they would've had female elven bodies early on as there are female elves in the game from the get go.  So I assumed Sera was a curvy elf, not a human.  Can Sera and the female human IQ wear the same outfit?  If so I should make them both wear it and get them standing side by side.

Eh? He's just taller and broader than the average qunari man. He was always a meaty kid, but he's still a qunari. Like how Aveline's body model is beefier than any of the other women in DA2 but she's still human.

In her diary in Trespasser she says she's gotten fat so I assumed that along with being tall, she had too much of a fondness for cookies.

I'm just saying it's a custom mesh.. the Iron Bull mesh. That technically makes him a kind of seperate "race".

They'd have to do the same thing for different shaped humans as well.. Practically make seperate races. Since their standard human body doesn't morph in many ways.

Oh, I see what you mean. I think Sky Watcher has his own mesh, too.

I don't know if that would tell you much. Body shape is largely determined by outfit meshes, and can change a bit when clothing/armor is changed.

Yes, Sera can wear the same armors a female human rogue could wear (or light/heavy armor if crafted with Dales Loden Wool/Silverite)

Sera can NOT wear armor that is "elf gated" like for example the Dalish Scout Armor.
