I'm starting a playthrough where I have intentions of romancing Kelly. Every single time I had tried this in the past it never worked and I had just assumed that it was because I had locked in with someone else too soon. Recently, I had a playthrough where I romanced no one and I still couldn't get Kelly's romance to completion. I had always assumed that inviting her to dinner was all you needed to get Kelly to bring up "someone special" in the third game and complete her romance. But still nothing. I then deduced (I hope correctly?) that you needed Kelly to actually dance for you in order for the romance to occur in the third game. So I went back to my ME2 save file and broke up with Jack and got the dance with Kelly (Since this was the file that was being transferred over to ME3) When I transferred my file over to Mass Effect 3 amongst my decisions carried over was the fact that I romanced no one in ME2, so I figured everything was good to go...but when I visited Ashley in the hospital she brought up my relationship with Jack...if I broke up with Jack, got the dance from Kelly and the save file listed me as having romance no one in ME2 then why is Ashley still recognizing the relationship I had even though I ended that relationship before transferring???

Kelly is a fling. In fact, she won't trigger the Paramor achievement and the game won't register her as an LI. There won't be any mention of her by anyone except for her popping up in Docking Bay.

Thanks, but that didn't really help my problem/question. What I was asking was, is why is Ashley still bringing up my Jack romance when i broke up with Jack before i transferred my save? I broke up with Jack, got the dance from Kelly, transferred the save where it clearly said i romanced no one in ME 2 and Ashley is still brining it up even though the file clearly said i didn't romance Jack.

 

And i'm aware of Kelly's status, I've just never been able to trigger her sex/picture scene after 4 tries.

In that scene, the game does not check whether you have broken up with the ME2 LI.
Shepard was still "unfaithful" even if the relationship did not work out.
Ashley would also know about a ONS with Jack.
