I completely understand that everyone has things come up from time to time, but the Normandy crew was out there. "Cmdr fix my life because I'm helpless then help your way into my panties" teaches poor mating skills for real life application.
Side quests? There are plenty of things I would rather do than go fix daddy issues (Jacob, Miranda, Tali, Grunt). It would be nice to have one crew member that wasn't a total psycho that I could confide in and makes jokes about the crew with.

Bioware romances, to me, have one crucial problem: they often struggle to feel like they come together in a natural way.
Miranda was kinda the worst, cos she was a ****** to you, and incredibly professional, then it was like 'oh no, my skin-tight catsuit happened to fall off!'. The rest of her romance was OK (in ME3) but it felt like she wouldn't even like Shep if this wasn't a game.
Can't get much hotter than Thane when it comes to both personality and appearance. My first true video game love...

Physically everything is on point; hip, waist to chest ratio 10/10. The problem is in the personalities. Each and every romance option seemed to have some sort of emotional baggage and/or socially awkward. It felt like I was picking up girls with serious daddy issues at the bar.

OP should go w/ the Jacob romance, have Shepard express her true feelings about the mission then dump him before going through the Omega 4 Relay. He is not happy ... just like a normal person.
