I find it difficult to believe that the krogan, who the Citadel races have at one point classified as enemy combatants, and who are for the most part, until like a few weeks if at all (depending on departure time), near-sterile, are considered worthwhile to bring along (especially since, even with their extended lifespans, the general perception of them is that they would rather swing a club than work a wrench, so they have little value as technicians to keep things running during an extended cyro sleep for shorter-lived species), but the quarians, who, while having a bad reputation in Citadel space, have never been at war with the Council, despite having the largest fleet in the known galaxy, aren't.
Especially considering that a former companion was a love interest. I doubt the quarians will be reduced to cameos, though I also wouldn't be surprised to learn that their numbers are low in Andromeda.
I think the Krogan would be very useful and worthwhile, as much as the Quarians. Especially physically. They're very...um... durable. They'd be like the muscle. They'd be OUR clubs. Our very own, living, breathing, Krogan clubs. And maybe a couple of their Shamans or whatever will come along to offer their... Krogan wisdom. Also, Krogan can tough a lot of stuff out.
I'd be a fool for ruling out the Krogan if I had to choose which race to bring with me.

Interesting to note that these two provide the joint 2nd most war assets in ME3 after humans (875 each in optimal conditions), but apparently it's space strippers, angry birds and krogan snacks that have unquestionable utility.
If this is a human run project, I'd think they'd want to bring their real friends rather than a bunch of obstructionist moochers with a penchant for condescending air quotes.

Then we should definitely leave the turians behind. As much as the people love garrus, the turians are not really humanity's friends. They are just keeping a close eye on us. They wanted to conquer Earth and enslave us (Citadel dlc, Foundation comics if anyone else asks for proof of this). No telling what they may do in Andromeda.

You mean the Turians? who like to shoot first, ask questions later, and then play it off as some kind of incident or misunderstanding. 'Ah yes, the "relay 314 INCIDENT"'
I do like the Turians though. Their discipline could come in handy. As long as they don't shoot every Alien we come into contact with, and then start a war with them and let it get out of hand because the Aliens, understandably, retaliate, and in doing so damage the Turians' war ego, and so it stops being a a war of misunderstanding that the Turians started, and instead becomes a war of pride and validation- I'm gonna stop, I'm getting all het up. Damn Turians.

I don't mind if quarians are there, but I won't hold my breath. The devs apparently asked which two races they would not want to see. Quarians and krogans were the answer, but for some reason we got krogan anyway.
If the devs use medical related reasons as the reason they don't bring the quarians, I'd remember that the genophage didn't stop them from using the krogan.
I could see the Council races and the Quarians on the crew. Whether these races are on thesquad is a different matter. Batarians and Vorcha are probably out. Too problematic. Krogan hire themselves out, so it makes sense for them to be there. Pretty sure no one wants to share a planet with the Krogan.
Some species have to get the boot to make room for the new ones. It's a competition between quarians, elcor, hanar, batarians, vorcha, volus, drell and geth to see which one(s) manage to make it in. Even if they do make it in, chances art they'll just have a token role. Truth be told, I don't particularly care if any of them are in or out.
Seeing any of them as squadmates? Even less likely. Based on the information we have I'm betting on the squad composition going something like this: male human, female human, krogan, asari, turian, at least one Andromeda native, and a wildcard. Now, the wildcard could be one of the "minor" aliens, but it is just as likely to be a salarian or a synthetic, and to a lesser extent another human or another Andromedan (it is worth noting ME has never had two alien companions of the same species, and I doubt they'll start now; that helps the chances of quarians and the others somewhat).
The unlucky aliens might still make it in as minor NPCs or even crewmembers.

Well, the way it was stated in the very first leak (secret fan panel 2013) is that BioWare had humans, asari, salarians, and krogan already modeled in the game (running animations included) and these models looked really good and showed a lot of diversity within each species.
Note that we see the above species in the EA Play 2016 video.
Then the question was asked, at this secret fan panel, about which 2 species out of all the main species in ME would players prefer be left out. And as you stated krogan and quarians were on the chopping block.
My guess is that BioWare already had story reasons plotted out for humans, asari, salarians, and krogan to be in Andromeda, and that the story could not be changed to toss krogan out (probably tied to salarians/genophage part II). The krogan WOULD be in Andromeda regardless of that fan panel vote.
Noticeably, the other three main races of turian, quarian, and maybe geth, were not modeled in game (animations and such) at the 2013 secret fan panel nor mentioned in any subsequent leaked material nor the 2016 EA Play video. They were only shown to the fans when that vote was made to ax 2 species from the list. It was probably a slide showing asari, salarians, krogan, turians, quarians, and humans, and the fans wanted every species but krogan and quarians.
My other guess is that regardless of fan pressure they will exclude turians, quarians, and geth from Andromeda.
You can bet that batarians, drell, hanar, elcor, volus, and vorcha won't be there either.
... drell...
Edit:
Just want to post that 2013 fan panel leak for anyone that hasn't seen it:
So long story short I saw that tweet from Mike Gamble a few weeks ago that said "...if you love Mass Effect and are going to PAX Prime email me..." And so I did and then I stumbled upon this forum of like-minded people and thought I'd make an account in case there was something shown to support IT; cause if you're like me waiting for something, anything, is painful enough. Needless to say I was one of the 21 people that got to give feedback on the concepts as they showed them and gave us tiny cryptic bits of information.
So I'll start by saying that they did show us a metric ****-ton of concept art with very brief explanations. I don't even know of a logical order to start in.
They started off with the profound question of what N7 means to us which you might read into it not being a previous cycle I guess.
Then this was followed by asking us whether we wanted a direct sequel, a prequel, or something somewhere completely different at a different time. The resounding majority wanted a sequel series, which I think they knew already. And this is based completely off of my opinion but by judging the concept art it has absolutely got to be a sequel.
First concepts were of two new races. The first one being described as "Arrogant". They were really skinny, almost skeletal. Their bodies vaguely looked like a boney Turian. They had glowing eyes and a neck that frilled up from their chest (once they show it off you'll see how hard it is to describe. Their heads almost remind me of the aliens from Independence Day. The second new race was described as "Ancient, Advanced, and Guardian". They had a similar color scheme to reapers and they looked like classic fantasy/sci-fi golems. Sleek rocky or metallic bodies with bright glowing lines flowing all over them. Some had fragmented pieces and shattered bits floating in place around them.
So I'm thinking sequel because new races are kind of hard to explain in a prequel especially when it does take place in the current cycle and I definitely know that for sure because the next few things they showed us were really nice cg models of an asari, salarian, human, and krogan running in the new frostbite engine. They looked amazing by the way. Also they stated that, like humans having many different features from each other, they wanted to do that with other races. That showed off some salarians and krogans with interesting face and bone structures. They also asked an odd but hard question for everyone. They showed a lineup of a character from each main race in the series and asked us which two would we get rid of if we had to. I couldn't do it but I was sadly surprised at how many people said quarian and krogan.
Anyways, they showed off a random human model wearing various armors and configurations asking us what we liked and thought was potentially iconic. They also showed us a slew of land vehicles that would serve for different environments. And the most interesting vehicle was a personal sized Normandy-esque ship that could "fit a mako-like vehicle in it". So the new races mingling with the old ones and a ship that looks like normandy architecture, sounds like sequel material to me. They said that as always characters and choices are most important and that they want to focus on exploration and discovery again. And then they finished by showing off too many concept art screens in rapid succession for me to be able to grasp anything. Just a whole lot of beautiful and interesting landscapes.
So that's that, I know it didn't quite answer any of our IT questions but if you're like me and have been holding out for 4 holding the answer to IT and the original endings of some dark matter stuff then the fact that this is most likely a sequel is great. And honestly what they showed us was absolutely amazing and I can't wait either way, I just love this universe so much. Thank you all for checking this out.
I think the problem is that most players are still attached to the old characters and hope getting representatives of those MW species back will get a similar experience.
However, I also think that can change rapidly if we get to see the new species in screenshots or in videos. It greatly depends how well they are portrayed in their introduction. If done well then without a doubt many will want those in their squad instead.

Skin tight body suits, sexy hips, sexy lips, sexy jawlines, long hair, high heels, big breasts, all female, look miraculously human. Yes, that seems to be what will get the fans' attention away from the old MW species.

Well, we also had the turians being the first to genuinely say 'okay, yeah, we'll help you, humanity' come the invasion, while the salarian and asari councilors basically were willing to say 'Earth's an acceptable loss, now let's protect OUR borders instead.' So, you know, there's that in their favor.

Only if we got the krogan on board. The salarians sure couldn't do it. I think the krogans would trust humans before any of the old council races that let them be condemned. Turians know this. Very cunning and shrewd they are.

Ar, there is that. The Turians are reliable when they're your ally. It's good to have them at our back I guess, now that they're not shooting at us. Humans and Turians have a respect for eachother at least.

I see no good reason why they should exclude any of the old races in the sojourn to Andromeda. Even if they don't play a major or even minor role in MEA, having it so they are there in Andromeda leaves it open to incorporate them later if Bioware sees a need to whereas leaving them behind closes the door on that forever.

I'd be very surprised if Quarians didn't make some kind of appearance. They are honestly the only species in the galaxy who would know how to undertake such a task, and have more reason to seek out a new home than any of the other races imo. To not take some Quarians would be a very bad idea indeed.
But of course that is from a story point of view, there's no telling what the devs will do in the end.

There's no reason to believe that the quarians are the only ones capable of doing this. The other species have been spacefaring for over a thousand years. The only difference between them and the quarians is that they had their own homeworlds and were capable of colonizing other planets with fewer issues.
Quarians in ME:A are must. They are very iconic species and shouldn't be left behind even for lore excuses. As others have said before, let's just forget about poor Tali's face reveal and hope for an actual work put on their faces this time by taking advantage of the new Frostbite engine. That is what I'm looking forward to.
BioWare should just scrub ME and make a pure smut ridden dating sim as it seems the only reason a lot of peeps want quarians or femme companions at all is to have sex with them. Guess that's why y'all gots a photoshop for the sexiez.
I'm guessing the sex you gettin isn't any good and the sex you want you can only get in vidya games.
I hope you get a giant, butt lusty, krogan instead.
BTW to a particular poster who spouted racist harassment to Mike Gamble (you know who you are/the one obsessed with female jawlines), Mexico and Canada are part of the United North American States in the MEU. If you actually were a ME fan obsessed with the lore instead of teh femme p****, you'd know this. So f!Ryder can potentially be Mexican if people want to create her that way. You were irate at Mike Gamble saying that she looked ugly and Mexican, and no Mexicans in space or whatever, if I remember the tweet correctly.
Oh, and Sam Maggs (that her name?) isn't working on ME.
Have Sex with them? WTF? If I wanted to Have Sex I would just have walked right into the sex bar next to our street! I wanted a god damn male Quarian squadmate like Kal'Reegar who happens to be thrown into the recycle bin immediately

Oh I agree with you, perhaps I shouldn't have used the word "only". In my mind there is no question, however, that having some Quarians would be extremely helpful when you're considering living in space for an unknown amount of time.
