Is a party of 4 mages feasible?

My Inquisitor is a mage (Knight Enchanter), I already got Solas and Vivienne and I'm gonna get Dorian when he's available.

Is a party of 4 mages any good or will I be too squishy to survive?

 

I'd give them all barrier with upgrades (probably 2 with the duration boost and 2 with the cd reduction) and if need be my Inquisitor and Vivienne can get Resurgence.

You would not be able to enter locked doors, nor thru the breakable walls (tho Solas' "Rock Fist" SHOULD have been able to do so), but other than that, I don't see any issues.

I did a "magequisition" run a while back and didn't run into any "too hard to get by" battles. I think I was playing on Hard, but it was before Trials were available. The main reason I gave up on it was because I kept getting the exact same banter between Dorian and Viv and after hearing it about 20x, I'd had enough. I was also annoyed about not being able to open doors/bust down walls but those usually lead to side content and are not required to advance the plot. I was playing as a Rift Mage so I could Stone Fist through some obstructions but not all of them.

Go for it. Party of 4 mages is totally viable. I've run that set up and fights never lasted long--we kicked butt. You can even break most locked doors with Stonefist. The only ones you can't break are the ones that require the Deft Hands perk.

I'm probably not gonna do it always but most of the time. And if there's a locked door I can later go back to camp, switch in a rogue and come back.

 

BTW, an unrelated question, at the moment Cassandra easily outdamages my mage with anything but Fire Rune (everyone is lvl 8). Is that normal? Do mages how low damage and are just for aoe and crowd control?

 

If mages can do high damage, around when will that happen? When I spec some Knight Enchanter skills?
