And by that I mean a imperialistic brutal superpower with which any meaningful diplomacy is not option simply because they consider everyone else beneath them.
I'm currently replaying Mass Effect 3 and during the Rachini missions, Javik casually states the Protheans burned 200 planets when the Rachini began to get out of hand (they used to deploy them as bio weapons). It would be cool if our adversary in the game could be capable of these things. I suppose the Reapers were that, but you don't need them to have that kind of warfare.
What are your expectations for the Khet?
I hope the Khet are like the Protheans.

BioWare is going to cave to fan pressure and make them sexy so we can romance them. They will replace the asari and fulfill their role. The khet will look like this:

I really like that idea ,but i always pictured the Khet as a successful Batarian Empire.

The protheans lost lots of their charm after we've discovered that they too got their tech from the reapers. It's funny to watch Liara getting more and more disillusioned after she learned that the protheans were totalitarian culture barbarians who suppressed any other species.
If the khet are anything like that, then they'll serve mainly as canon fodder, to replace the Blue Suns, Blood Pack and Eclipse.

You people are all sick! Leave those poor Cats alone!
On a serious note, why is this the first time I hear of these "Khet" people and why have they never been discussed before...? I hope, that they are an extremely aggressive and suspicious race, that is easy to be a butthole to, but can be sympathized with a lot of work and even have individual characters of that race, that could have a potential romance with the protagonist, or somebody else on the team, I don't know.

At this point I wouldn't be surprised if the entire plot centered around banging each race present. I say that about the asari. How they pretended they were the superior, amazing race, but they just got seeded by the Protheans.
It's a shame the game didn't let me take that stance. I had to mope and think losing Thessia was the worst thing ever.
As for the Khet, while I like the idea of a broadly imperialistic power like the Protheans, I think it clashes with the setup of the game. We're already the conquering aliens looking for a homeworld. We're going to take over things, and I highly doubt everything we reach will be uninhabited.
I'd like to see something I've never seen before: I want them to invite the MW species in, help them for a bit, and then, the shoe falls and BAM, slavery.

I don't think so. We only started knowing about the Protheans with Javik, and technology is not the important thing here, but their attitude. They were utterly brutal, this thread mention just one example, but I remember they set a star to go supernova at some point. Not to mention, and this is very important, they were extremely successful.
Everything that we hears Javik saying lead us to believe the Protheans were considerably more advanced and powerful than all the races of the galaxy combined. That is the kind of threat that would be interesting in Andromeda.

Didn't the protheans had to blow up that planet after they learned that the zha'til were corrupted by the reapers? Doesn't sound no more brutal than Shepard sending an asteroid into a mass relay to stop the reapers.
To me the protheans appeared to be modelled much like the leviathans, who viewed themselves as the apex species of their time, with the lesser species in their thrall. Anything like that goes a bridge too far for me. We've already seen that before. I don't need anything like that to be repeated.

I get it Javik, you're surprised that us primitives are no longer primitive after 50,000 years (duh) and you like to patronise us for it. YOU throw YOURSELF out the bloody airlock, you bloody...
Ok, that may not be the kindest or most accurate portrayal of him. And I can understand why he'd be somewhat like that anyway. But still.

If the Khet(als) are like the Protheans, I hope they're not like Javik, all overly-contemptuous for no particular reason all too often, and boringly arrogant. Yawn. Those traits are getting all too common in characters everywhere, like it's just the standard.

Poor Javik. If you were as ugly as him then you'd be mad too.
The protheans were the most unimpressive race in the trilogy. Seriously, glad the reapers killed off those non-aesthetic creeps. If the Khet are anything like them, I'm going to the bar to pick up a cougar and cry in her arms all night. Blame it on the drinks.
They better be alpha masculine as hell. Better than all races in strength, agility, speed and intelligence, but kind, caring, humble, and slightly introverted. I want to look up to them, the silent hero that takes no credit, and enjoy being in the presence of such a godly being.

I think it was Matt Rhodes, the ME artist, that suggested that the protheans were originally intended to look like they did on Ilos, and as such look as though they were the progenitor/panspermia -effect of all the ME races. Might explain why so many races look and act so much like humans.

So these guys. Oh my! ![]()

Agreed.
I want every single one of those to be elite soldiers, even the "civilians" of the Khet should be absurdly strong, they have to be known for being the elite of the elite races. I don't want another cannon fodder race, that you alone kill 20.000 of, even though they conquered a galaxy. I want every encounter with them to be a living hell, so you really would have to consider siding with them and possibly annihilate what's in their way, or live with the consequences of fighting for the weak but pooping your pants, everytime you hear khet noises. Meow.

"Protheans were interesting. At first I was trying to design a creature that could conceivably be (if you squint your eyes) the genetic root of all the alien races in our galaxy (yes yes, just like that TNG episode).
I was trying to stay as close to their original appearance in ME1 as I could (which had been kept intentionally vague for just this reason). That didn’t last long though."

I would like to see a fatal orgasm. Like maybe when humans have sex with an alien, that alien dies or gets wounded because they are so incompatible. Or maybe an alien that sends electric shocks when climaxing.
That would be cool... yeah.

I'd rather they not be overly similar to the protheans either. Because we kind of... already did that.

By having actually been the ones to shoot themselves in the "supreme being" foot. It's fine for DA, just don't want too many parallels to happen...
Morinth...?
hahaaaa
but she's a mutant so that doesn't count.
I was thinking sth like this guy

The small brown alien is using his orgasm as a last defense against the white dude with the nasty tongue, killing him and giving himself the best pleasure. Maybe too gruesome for Mass Effect.

Above all I'd like one of the new species to have Prothean-esque technology like the Particle rifle so we can still have the Prothean/Collector weapons but with a new coat of paint.
I reckon the Khet might be a synthetic/organic hybrid race taken over by AI, exactly what Javik described speaking of a "slave race" in his cycle; remember, ''they were monsters, few organic traces left". Perhaps becoming the Khet is the eventual fate of the Remnant and this is a cautionary tale which supports the catalysts observations about the fate of organic life outside of the reaper cycles or his final solution.

Sounds like ME2
I personally hope they do sth different with the ancient aliens thing. What I liked about the Protheans at first was how so little was known about them. Then came the Collectors and they just looked like horrible insects. Then comes Javik who looks like a weird cuttlefish armadillo crabface. Yeah, nothing like the majestic beings we imagined from ME1.
